@@jibsmokestack1 I love Luther - one of the greatest crooner's ever and also one of my favorites. No disrespect there sure. His music was always on my playlist, and some of his songs are some of the greatest R&B songs ever too. But Howard's vocal range and soaring, emotional falsetto are just too good to ignore for me. He was known as "The Voice" for a good reason.
I just love it. A time when music was uplifting. The superb bass line and Howard Hewett's unique vocals combining with the choppy synthesizer. I wanna dance to this again!!!!!!!
HH - what a voice (although he missed his cue here!) Never had the recognition he deserves - very easy on the eye too ... And JD, the definition of cool. The utterly incomparable mighty Shalamar ... Love, love, love them 💜
I agree with you my dear friend, thumbs up 1000 likes, this music of today doesn't come near the 80s music, this music of today is bad influence to the young generation that is why I don't like it, it don't make any sense, it's more negative then positive 🙌
I used to play this song so loud when I was a kid it used to shake my bedroom curtains. -) The neighbours were not happy, but I didn't care. Such a great tune. Sorry neighbourhood.
They had such a great sound with Leon Sylvers producing them. One of my favorite groups from their era. Even though they had the backing of Soul Train and later Solar Records, they never broke through into stardom like they should have, but I like them more because they are so underrated.
There's good and bad in every generation. Shalamar must have been good! I'm 33! Thankful that technology had recorded this type of music for future generations. May it never be lost.
one of the best group ever of funky music and every song was a big hit, howard hewett gived so much with his tehnical voice and his timber, this group is a legend of all of time....i was 9 years old and i falled in love with this group
When this came out I was dating a young lady [my marriage was ending] We used to meet in a wine bar in Walthamstow, CATS. Now 32 years later we have had a long and happy marriage
This brings back those memories. I used to have a very big crush on Jody Watley in those days. And I remember that they played that song during their concert in my University at Ife, Nigeria. Not long afterwards we heard that Jody got pregnant and soon afterwards was the sad breakup of Shalamar.
so wonderful .brings me back to my youth .and watching Jeffery doing the moon walk for the first time. WOW .i practiced for months but could never be as good .
He's probably a 90s kid. You know how these 90s kids think they had the best music... Cough... Cough Spice Girls... I'm in my early 40s and I agree with you brother, glad I was alive then too
Believe me I know. Iwas born in 69 and that was a great time for music. Shalamar was my favorite group in the late 70's and early 80's. Jody was my favorite member of the group. I used to sing her parts and songs.
I really miss this group, this album "Friends" is a true classic. I hope Jody one day changes her mind and want to perform at least one more time with Howard and Jeffrey
Can't agree more with the last comment - we were so lucky!! Remember listening to this from the deck of a Greek ferry at night under a starry sky while backpacking round the Med - magical.
I have to admit i wish i was a dj when this was current in the clubs... its not easy to get music that fully engages a crowd like whats happening in this video... people dancing, singing along happily to every word, moving along to the beat the whole time darn time !!!! I love playing these music all the same.. instrumentation is just insane maybe coz it was all recorded live back in the day 😎
I found my wife in 1990. Reminds me of our house parties in Butcher Road, Durban. Picked up my dancing skills from my older brothers. Red Cup 🥤Approval Tune 🇿🇦 Thank you for the upload. 🫶🏽
Love love love this song, simply because the vocal patterns are so much FUN, especially the bridge 'And it feeeeels so gooood-that you-and I-can go-together!'. That's another key to a great song, there shouldn't be a 'good part', they should all be good parts, with their own flavour and personality, complimenting each other.
Very catchy voice and song. its rhythm and sound appealing to the ears. I felt compel to search for this fantastic song and to my surprise I found Shalamar. I did not know about this song I did not ever imagen it belong to this wonderful group. Thank you Shalamar
The inspiration of his music, was recorded in that golden age ... Because, time passes! and it sounds like it's from today. It is the best music of all time .. I'm sorry my English is not good ... Greetings from Colombia 2021 They are treasures and beautiful angels of high measure just like you friends ... Everything will be better! Cheer up! You can!!
Such a banger. Howard Hewitt was so great in Shalamar. All three of them with Leon Sylvers did amazing work together, too bad they couldn't keep it going.
yea you're right and, i did grow up back then. i was born in 1966 so this was high school times for me. it was hott............ i wish i could go back to 1980 and be 14yrs old, to do it all over again.
born in 1966. now with two boys (9 and 6) and guess what they are listening to. shalamar, kashif, sos band, change, t-connection, midnight star, atlantic star...........happy days. absolutely priceless. god bless and regards from zürich. ciao.
Shalamar are still one of my all-time fave groups. I think that one of my first records that was bought for me was There it is. My older sister used to go to school discos at the time, and loving music since I was born, I wanted to go with my dad to meet her one nite and see what it was like. She used to play Shalamar a lot on her stereo at home and I used to bop along to their songs, and she bought me the 7'' vinyl on the Solar label with the massive hole in the middle! Classic track! :)
my fave shalamar song, still makes me smile! i was raised on this kinda music, i feel sorry 4 the youth of 2day- they havent got a clue! keep posting the REAL tunes!!
Still loving this group and their music. can never tire of this. brings good memories and I will love this til i am 75 years young..cos i will be dancing to this .
If you were a teenager in the 80s you were indeed blessed with this type of music everywhere, now we are in dystopian hell with crap music.
J habite en France, shalamar c est mon epoque
Exactly , miss the 80’s
💯
And I was that teenager jamming to Shalamar in the 80’s!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
Seen them in concert many times, never disappointed ❤❤
Lost my older brother John in 2023 this was his favorite song of shalamars love and miss you everyday kid your ever loving brother ❤️ 💙
They were so mighty. I think they were one of the most under-rated artists of the 80's.
Nothing underrated about them, simply the best, from London
Yes, they were overshadowed by Michael Jackson.
Mein Gott, bin ich froh, daß ich diese wunderbare Zeit erleben durfte!!! Danke Herr ❤❤❤!!
@@random.editsxx.2265 They were American ffs
Shalamar - the greatest R&B band from the 80's IMO. Howard Hewett's voice is legendary!
Amen to that - ain't that the truth! But they were so watchable too - unique. Just fantastic.
YES
Better than Luther? I disagree

I agree ..... that style of bass was created by Bernard Edwards of Chic and guitar riff by Nile Rodgers.
Howard Hewitts voice is legendary!!!
All they dude, all the way!
@@dacdac937 huh? 🤔

Mannnnnnn! Mr. Sylvers. I didn't know why I loved Shalamar, The Whispers and Dynasty when. I was a kid. Now I know. It was him 👊🏾👊🏾❤️❤️
yep back in the day when bass was truly valued
Reminiscent of some Nile Rodgers guitar licks right there. 🎸
I love them all! But Howard Hewitts vocals and upper range is just fantastic!
This was played at mine and my now wife's engagement party 6 years ago now and happily Married for 5 years and still going strong!
Congratulations! 🙂❤
Love this!
Mon époque 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Howard Hewett's voice is brilliant

What a song - "There It Is". My favourite Shalamar song. Awesome!
They had such a great sound with Leon Sylvers producing them. One of my favorite groups from their era. Even though they had the backing of Soul Train and later Solar Records, they never broke through into stardom like they should have, but I like them more because they are so underrated.

Leon Sylvers production and bass playing is so excellent, he is one of the best of all time bassists, up there with Bernard Edwards
agree
Leon is one of the unsung greatest bass players, and bass line creators, of all time!
They’re good but Tommy Cogbill is still #1

You know you love a tune when you can remember every lyric and every inflection in the singing!
I had this album as a kid and in 2021 it sounds just as good as it did in the early 80’s!
Love Shalamar, one of best 80's bands
I think this is truly one of the greatest songs ever...
"I trust it like a lighthouse guides a ship to land"

Saw them in Stockport last week. Absolutely amazing at 64, 67, and 67!! I think I am going to add them to my medley section when I am singing next ❤
A classic dance tune, and we in the UK know a damn good tune when we hear one. : )
I love that the kids are so in to it. They don't care if it's a lipsync. They are having a ball and clearly making the band feel great.
Shoutout to my parents for having a great taste in music.
