Most of Betty's hits came out in the 70's, but this song came out in 1987.
She was imparting life lessons through masterful vocals. Betty was one of the unsung masters of the whistle register. Minnie Ripperton also had an astonishing mastery over the technique. There were many real singers back in the day.........Betty happened to be one of them. Great video!!!
You didn't grow up with this so you are not appreciating the whole performance. She gave a wide range of vocal agilities from low registers, to growls, to whistles.... live, no auto-tune. Her command of the stage was also on point. Not only did she sang that, she gave a real emotional performance.
She is a soul legend. One of Aretha's favourites, when Aretha invites you to sing at her house you know you are bad.
