The early 90s doesn't have much documentation online. More info needs to be gathered before we can say anything for sure. So far, the TRC seems real to me and the whole multi-run thing is already documented with the Hog top R6s. Time will tell
#35 from this series sold on Reverb and the Gibson worker who actually cnc'd the bodies and necks e-mailed the seller and said Custom Shop had nothing to do with this series. The seller put the e-mail in the listing right after the Gruhn info. It was made on the same day (321) and is only 32 off in production #. The truss cover font is the same, so that's original.. it's just not Custom Shop
Yeah I was going to ask, I wonder how this compares to the new 'Beato' models? Are the specs essentially the same, other than the older pickups possibly being different?
@@JasontheGuitargod Except the Beato models don't have the Full Gloss finish right? I thought they both had more of a 'satin' finish with visible wood grain?
@@StreetPreacherr you're right, but like I said, wasn't playing full attention, I just saw a red dc special with the two piece bridge and was like "oh must be a beato"
Never paid attention to the layout of the knobs until now. I never realized how much of a difference the layout is compared to the single cut Les Paul.
in my opinion one of the most stupid decisions gibson has ever pulled, look at an 80s gibson invader, that one has the correct location for the knobs and still have the pickup switch below
@@Kyush4 I prefer the switch on the upper bout like on the LP. The way I play I always hit the switch if its below the string. Really annoying when Im playing a strat type guitar or any guitar with the switch below the strings.
I haven't noticed them elsewhere, but my 2003 Melody Maker & 2001 Studio AAA both have one piece bodies/backs on them, so it was a thing in the Good Woods era.
I always loved the shape of the doublecuts, maybe because of my early exposure to .38 Special. That has got to be the flattest back of the neck that I've ever seen from Gibson! I expected it from many Epiphone models, but not from the parent company.
Agreed. For the 'Speical/Junior models I've always liked the DC shape more. I figure if you want a LP SIngle Cut shape, then you should get 'full strength' Maple Top model. Although, since getting my single P-90 DC Junior I've been playing it more than my late 90s LP Standard... The Jr. is just so much lighter, even noticeably lighter than my MIM Telecaster!
These Jrs are great. It actually reminds me a lot of my mid 2000s SG Classic: cherry finish, two P90s, kidney bean tuners, and a bound dot inlay board.
Aw man those pickups sound creamy , I dig it , I want a P-90 Gibson guitar , Ive got a Tele with a P-90 in the neck position which sounds great ...yes yes a TV yellow LP Special is what I see in me future...Thanks Trogly !
i bought a gibson les paul special about 4 year ago tv yellow. didnt like the p90s nor wrapping the strings or the thin body. just not for me so i sold it. im a les pauls standard player and strat player as of new.
was 1993 the first year for the lp special with the tom? i recall they came back with the henry era but only on junior spec, that 76-88 model doesnt have the proper neck joint
I would love to see a Les Paul Shred. Im considering a trade that includes a Studio Platinum and a Studio Shred and im interested in info on the shred series.
They need the wraparound bridge IMO. ABR and tail piece looks to out of place on a special. Even more so on the faded series without the binding on the fretboard, because that makes them look even more like a junior with an ABR.
Chip? I could start a campfire with that gouged piece off the side of this 93 DC LP. Still an awesome example though. 2020 had the DC LP P90 back as Tributes and I was really tempted but I bought a Tribute Special P90 instead, with the neck pup farther from the bridge. An SG makes a way better DC anyway.
@@paulneeds I hear ya, fingers won't do what I want them to anymore. Soon I'll be the perfect collector with guitars I'll only be able to look at and not play.
i would love to hear the history of the neck pickup being in two different locations on these Double Cuts. i've noticed some have the neck pickup closer to the neck than others. why?
0:34 OK, what is the weird audio glitch as you say something other than 94? BTW Tool was awesome last night! Ended with Schism in Denver. OK, watched the whole thing and I get it.
Either this guitar sold immediately or it hasn’t been posted yet . I wanted to see how much Trogly was asking for it but , could not find w . I’ll check back in later on . How much ?
That's a beautiful guitar! Always a mystery to me why people pay extra for factory aged/relic'd, but turn their noses up at guitars like this DC that earned their scars in the real world 🌎😅. It sounds great, and my guess is that it feels good in the hands: otherwise, it wouldn't have been played so much 😊
Hey! I have one of these guitars! Mine is 68 of 300 and the condition is very good! Do you know how much it’s worth? I haven’t got a clue. (From the UK)
At the risk of being skinned alive; if you wanted a wrap-tailpiece and yet have adjustable intonation, why not install a Leo Quan/"Bad Ass" style wrap-around tailpiece? "Best of both worlds", yes?
Hi Trogly, I have #42 of 300 of this guitar. I have a bunch of photos of it if you're interested at all? mine was made on November 12 1993 the 316th day
Rick Beato bought a 1993 special ( I think TV yellow) and it’s the one he has been playing all these years and based his model on. He said he loved the neck and it was his go to so it seems…..
What are you, a billionaire? How are you able to buy $30,000 worth of guitars every month?! I have a family and a wife who can't work. When my studio space was robbed six years ago, it wasn't covered by my renters insurance and the studio owner disappeared, got away. No one was arrested. I lost ALL my guitars, amps, everything. I can't afford ONE Gibson. How do you have 200 of them?
Those P-90s sound great. That is a great guitar for playing live.
That's some good, honest play wear. People pay a lot of money for their new guitars to look like that.
Pure 1977/78 UK Punk Rock! And not too much younger either! The P90 is for sure my favourite Gibson pickup!
Those clean tones are surprisingly good. Just a touch of harmonic richness and roundness.
Mayhaps the original truss rod cover was lost. This has to be a replacement, and that’s why the fonts don’t match.

Good call. The Gruhn book says the limited run of 300 had nickel-plated wraparound. This has chrome-plated abr-1. I don't think it's Custom Shop

A Rick Beato special from 1993! 😀😁
wasnt paying full attention when he said it was from 93, and I thought it was a red beato when he first opened the case lol.

Well used and played guitar. These double cuts are starting to grow on me, nice 👌
That is sweet! I do love a double cut P90s guitar! I have a DC Jr, it absolutely rocks! This one would make a nice cousing for my existing DC 🙂
That guitar is one rock n roll machine, love the P90s.

If the font is different, likely not original and someone had that TR cover made.
Wraparound the spec in that 300 run
If were to order something like this with a P90 neck and humbucker in the bridge what humbucker would you get?

Austin, what does the T in Les Paul Standard T stand for ???
071 is in the same font as the others in the 100s.
Great LP jr....try a soft brissel toothbrush in neck joints or a thin putty knife wrapped with soft cotton T-shirt for tight joinery

Why don'tyou make more of the traditional mounted bridge? I think thats why, it sounds so good. I, It does sound good.

Good job again.
What a cool guitar. I love all the honest wear.

A Great Rock Guitar! ... but I would much rather have the upper strap button on that horn.

Will you do the 10th-anniversary revue of the 2015 double cut?

OK, watched the whole thing and I get it.
I've always wanted one of those DC Specials with the dual P-90's and T O M bridge but the prices now are out of my reach. Does Epiphone make one?
Nope. I love this model but sadly the only options are 3k+
I love the quicker unpacking intro!
That V was stunning

Is it like a Rick Beato special or is it totally different?
It is a gloss finished Rick Beato made at the Custom Shop instead of a Satin finish Gibson USA. Same price though haha
The Beato version isn’t as thick of a slab too. I think it’s .25” thinner.
Okay. I want that. Reverb link?
just posted it - troglysguitarshow.com/
