    What I love about this, is that its genuine reporting. This woman got into some games and truthfully enjoyed them and showed that video games are for everyone, and its something many people enjoy. She isn't slamming the industry for easy views and ratings, she is educating, and showing another perspective many conservative families who don't know what video games are, may not normally see.
    Bravo!

      @@damin9913 You got to admit up to that point parents didn't know what the game content might be. So I agree that there should be a labeling system, which they made, so that parents can make informed decisions. These days it's easy to load up RUclips or such to see how a game might be but back then you didn't know since the box rarely shows anything graphic.

    (3:03) The title screen to MOTHER 1 (planned to be called "EARTH BOUND" once it released in America in 1991) can be seen here. MOTHER 1 was already fully translated into English & readyy release along with a strategy guide and a poster, but at the last second MOTHER 1's international release got canned due to NIntendo of America not wanting to spend that much money mass producing strategy guides, posters, and spend that much money marketing a NES game (let alone a RPG, which back then that genre didn't sell too well in America) during the beginning of the SNES era of gaming.
    MOTHER 1 US being one of the games just casually being played by one of the video game hotline counselors as if its another NES that didn't end up being cancelled and lost to time for a good few years is crazy to me and just shows how close America really was to receiving MOTHER 1 back in the early 90s

    That was the beauty about gaming back then during the 80s and 90s. No internet to cheat, less realistic games, and developers were more creative because of system limitations.

    • @classiccarbuff
      @classiccarbuff 2 года назад +2

      That's because people had Game Genie if they wanted to cheat back then.

    • @yellowblanka6058
      @yellowblanka6058 Год назад +4

      That's funny, because they were constantly developing new mappers for the cartridges to attempt to side-step those limitations, and make the most realistic games they could within those limitations. There have always been/will always be limitations that developers have to work around - even the PS5/Series X have limitations that have to be worked around. Actually, if you look at indie/AA games, they've gotten even more creative because of fewer limitations on modern systems - there are games we're playing now that couldn't have been conceived of in the NES days because there would have been no practical way to make them happen, so in many ways, better tech increases creative possibilities. Less creativity in AAA games these days has everything to do with these games being far more expensive to produce, so publishers "play it safe" and produce games in popular genres - I'm sure many working at AAA developers would love to do more creative games, but only the "safe" games/genres are funded because of cost.

      There's kind of a limit to graphics though. You can't make a game look more real than real life and we're already getting pretty damn close to photo realistic graphics. It's hard to say where exactly the future of gaming will take us, but VR technology will definitely become pretty wild. I don't think VR will take over everything though. People will always want to play some games outside of VR.

These ladies were fun and didn't attempt to slam our hobby once. I feel like they just got us and good on them. I watched another old video on the N64 and the news anchor said and I quote "At least the music isn't as annoying as the older console." Basically implying the Snes had terrible sound and as a Sega diehard m, I can say with clarity that is absolutely false. The Snes's sound was, in its day something to write home about.
    I remember the first time I heard the soundtrack for Castlevania IV. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. That games music perfectly circumferenced the type of music the Snes was capable of. The Genesis with a proper sound team can throwdown in this department as well....Thunder Force IV, SOR2, and the fan fix of SF2SC anyone? ;)

    Oh how I wish we could go back to the days of NES/SNES/Genesis/Gameboy/etc. Those were the good days of video games. No one flipping out because a character model wasn't perfect. No playing Online and getting mad at a single death in a game. Back then, you played WITH people, in the same room. You played the games even if the graphics weren't the best, because the games were good. You called a damn hotline if you were stuck, instead of googling. You had Nintendo Power instead of IGN and RUclips.
    If you wanted to play a game, and get through it, it required more effort. Nowadays, you can play a game, get stuck, and just google a walkthrough and be done with it in 10 minutes. Back then, even guides and stuff weren't always overly detailed..especially Nintendo Power maps and stuff.

    • @keybyss98
      @keybyss98 9 лет назад +4

      I personally think the GameCube/Original Xbox/PS2/Dreamcast/GBA era was the last great era for video games. Sure, we've had some really good games afterwards, but I kinda thought we still had some cool things right beforehand: G4 TV, Cel-Shaded Graphics, Growing Technology, and a huge lack of sensitivity towards most gamers. Now, we have bickering swearing children (honestly, though, I kinda think it's more of a 2006-2014 kind of deal... But whatever), too many jump scares in video games (instead of legit horror), stupid little concepts (micro-transactions and what not), and other things like that. While I personally think 2014 and this year has offered a better future for gaming, I do still think there can be SOME questionable actions done by the gaming industries these days.

    • @TXFDA
      @TXFDA 9 лет назад +1

      Pixelcitizen PS2 era wasn't bad, but that was around when the whole thing started. It was kinda in between the "good old days" and the current generation of gamers. It's the era of "it's still good, but we have internet to walkthrough everything."
      Keeping in mind, I still enjoy current generation gaming. I have a 360 and PS3, and plan to get a PS4 eventually. I just preferred back then when everything was simpler. No internet to look everything up, Actual multiplayer with people in the same room. Spreading game rumors around school and with friends. Sharing cheat codes and glitches with people that you found out rather than googling it in 2 seconds.
      I mean hell, I remember Tomb Raider. There was this big rumor around about a "nude code". Everyone ever had to try it. Turns out one of the game magazines advertized the code, and it actually blew your character up mid-jump instead. It was great. And then all the magazine rumors about new Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat characters that turned out to be fake. It was a great time.

    • @keybyss98
      @keybyss98 9 лет назад

      I personally don't mind this current generation, too. Even though I'm probably gonna go with PC this time, I don't mind playing today's games. I guess even in the Walkthrough/General Internet generation, I still felt like I was in a more physical, free gaming world (even in the Wii era... Or at least in the pre-2009 or so era). I still remember around 2007-2008, I had a friend who, like me, LOVED to play Destroy All Humans. Even if the Internet was there, for some odd reason, we started a small, short lived rumor in school that there was actually a moviebased off the game... I don't know how it came about, but it just did. We also used to do a lot of crappy computer/hand drawn artwork inspired by the game and physically shared it with each other. Now, if we were in 2nd Grade in 2015, it would be on my Instagram (and I would probably defend the current generation like a bitch). XD Still, I would agree: The NES/SNES/GENESIS/GameBoy/Atari Lynx/Turbografx-16/GameGear era was probably the last era where a good mental challenge in video games was... Well, a thing.

      Oh I'm with you on that one, I'd love to go back to the 3rd and 4th gen eras. I had the most fun during those days. Nintendo was the bomb until the 5th gen when the N64 decided to be cartridges still instead of discs. The PS1 ended up with all the best RPG's because of it. I enjoyed the GameCube more then the 64. But the late 80s and early 90s was so much fun. I don't think a day goes by where I don't think about something from those days.
