JJBA is quite old. Golden Wind's manga run was 1995-1999. [So it's 2001 setting is actually slightly *futuristic* ] A lot of modern anime were actually inspired by it. It only took so long to be animated because it's weird and hard to do right and Araki was VERY strict about 'no you can't add/remove stuff unless it's for legal reasons'.

Some directors don't care about being accurate. This isn't always a bad thing though a lot of the it is. - Abbacchio taking a sip of wine before help Narancia and Mista curbstop a guy... Anime-only. You can't tell me that scene is a great addition. - King Crimson works so much better in the anime. - You know how infamously long the ending to Lord of Rings is. It's supposed to be longer and whole arc about taking back the Shire after everything. Sometimes cutting stuff makes a story better. 3. Budge or Time-Constraints can prove somethings impossible without compromising something more valuable. 4. Something really didn't age well. For example, HP Lovecraft was really, really racist. His famous Eldritch Gods a lot of time take a back seat to Lovecraft's racist rants. Fullmetal Alchemist probably has some of the best examples of what I am talking about. A bit of background if you aren't initiated. There are 2 series Fullmetal Alchemist (2003) and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood (FMAB). When 2003 anime was being made the manga was still in its infancy. The anime got too far ahead and had to add a lot of filler to let the manga catch up, but that wasn't enough so the 2003 anime had to diverge and it started telling its own story. Why didn't they stop? Cause it was making too much money, you can't just stop. That story is good, but it is very different by the end. For example, the main villians are too very different characters (even there genders are different). One the "most badass scenes in all of anime" is missing cause it didn't exist yet. FMAB on the other hand was made to be much more accurate and was made after the manga finished same studio made it too. It's commonly argue that the first couple episodes of FMAB is the show's only flaw. The reason is the being kind of rushes cause it assumes most of its watchers have either read the manga or watched the pervious anime so they don't want to retread ground so they skipped some stuff. One character even shows up near the end who had a 1 arch intro near the beginning of the manga and an episode of the 2003 anime (IDK I haven't watched 2003 all the way through). Guess what it still one the best animes of all time. If you try to cram too much into a small time slot you get the Fullmetal Alchemist Liveaction movie. It tried to fit a 64 episode into a 1h 45m movie and oh boy does it suffer. Instead of trying to tell its own story its tries to cram in as many "iconic" Fullmetal Alchemist moments.
