why? Black singers have been singing in leading roles for over 75 years? Leontyne Price, Grace Bumbry, Jessye Norman, Laurence Brownlee, Pretty Yende, Denyce Graves, Kathleen Battle, Simon Estes, Leona Mitchell.....the list goes on and on! The opera world is all about the greatest voices and performers!
@@tracysample6942yes....a whole whopping 75 years. Stop living in the past - opera is the one venue where singers of all races can and have succeeded! AND - aside from Caruso - what singers of any race do you know(without looking them up!!!)
it's not just the high notes, it's the low note singing, her entire performance was amazing. Her voice is just beautiful, and her acting was fabulous also. Opera is not just wearing a viking hat and singing!
How absolutely marvelous to hear such singing. This was my first experience of a black coloratura singing Olympia, and she crushed it. As a black tenor, spinto class, I have to say it can take a long time to get it right. Singing is a mystery. It’s the only art in which the teacher doesn’t have to master the instrument to teach it. The instrument is invisible, and to the singer, inaudible, so finding a teacher is a grim treacherous path for everyone, because classical singing requires technique to survive. Ms. Bradley has negotiated the most difficult climb in America, and all the accolades and support she receives she has won, the hard way. Bravo!
I saw the lady sing this live at the MET as a young girl in 1984. My aunt was a fan of the arts and she brought me to any and all operas featuring black women singing lead parts Harolyn Blackwell sang at my Aunt's funeral
Herman Gaddy I had the pleasure of seeing Faye Robinson as the three heroines (Olympia, Giulietta and Antonia) at the Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires, 1980. A once-in-a-lifetime experience! She was magnificent! No words can describe her outstanding performance!
I love seeing the different interpretations of how this song is done. I think the doll could use some more movement, though, although I like how the doll’s arm has to be moved to get it swinging. Still looking for that dream version of this song, though: 1) have the doll be dressed as Barbie, in her dream house 2) have the doll be a Host from Westworld
There’s a very risqué performance at the Met where the doll is implied to be a prostitute and instead of winding her up, they put pills in her mouth to keep her going. Kind of a similar idea as a host from Westworld.
This is the sixth interpretation I have watched today. I am not here to criticize or compare, but simply for entertainment. I love The Doll Song and will watch every variation I can find.
Besides the lovely voice of this talented singer. Lets congratolate as well to the costume staff they do a really good job doing regency gowns un My opinión

@@skidaddledo6919 When singing, you want your tongue relaxed, which usually means placing it lightly on top of your teeth. (or wherever your tongue naturally sits when you are not talking- some tongues are longer than others and I do not mean that as an innuendo) When you sing, take special care not to pull your tongue up, as if your tongue is up, it is not relaxed. Having your tongue relaxed will feel weird, as normally when talking it almost never is, but patience is key, as when you get frustrated, it just adds more tension. If you have trouble getting the placement right, just full on stick your tongue out whenever you feel like you are pulling your tongue back- not so far out to where you are causing tension by pulling your tongue too far forward. Another word of advice is to not push it. That could also screw up your vocal chords. I hope this helps. When singing it can sometimes be hard to tell whether your tongue is in the right place. What I recommend is to stop singing and keep making micro adjustments of where your tongue is until you find the place that allows you to get the deepest breath. (*note, I have not run this particular bit of advice by my vocal teacher, i will edit this comment once I have, use advice at your own risk*) It also helps to get a vocal teacher that is classically trained, as they will know what they are talking about better than I do.
Why on earth does anyone feel the need to create a RUclips channel devoted to black female opera singers as though they are some kind of rarity? There are dozens of excellent black opera singers world wide and have been for the past 60 years. Imagine the fuss if I created a channel for White female opera singers! I'd be canceled and labeled a racist.
@@elainejohnson796 I think it's not the singers fault, but maybe we should stop making racial highlights in culture because then the desire for black justice will be insatiable.
You are correct in one regard. There are many Black opera singers with marvelous voices. White singers have received their due recognition since the birth of opera. Your comment seems to deny the great struggle it has taken, over many years, for Black singers to even be permitted to sing on the same stage as whites. The fact that there exists a channel to recognize Black achievement seems to disturb you. This attitude is the same as those who denied Marian Anderson the chance to sing at the Met until she was well past her prime and public sentiments began to be more accepting. You claim regressive thinking and a desire to make America what it was, and must never be again. Karen-ism once again. Learn your country’s history.

She sounds good, but she's using the flat tounged technique, which... Is awful for your vocal chords.
