Just went through this same thing on mine. I used wheel bearing grease to hold up the pushrod, but never thought of doing it that way. Looked pretty slick.
The bolt on front of the motor closest to the fuel pump, remove it use one of the bolts from the fuel pump lift up the pushrod tighten a bolt with your fingers, it will hold the push rod up install your fuel pump, put one bolt in the fuel pump to hold it on remove the longer boat from the front of the motor put it on your fuel pump tighten it down, put the short boat back in front of the motor. Old trick, I learned from my old man works like a charm
