A traditional Thanksgiving remembrance reason: The Native Americans kept some of the first European Pilgrims from starvation, during their first American Winter, c.1621. Nowadays, America marks the Last Thursday of November as a day to commemorate and celebrate all manner of thoughtfulness, thankfulness, gratefulness, gratitude, love, hope, and togetherness. Hello from Mid-West Michigan ~ I always smile when I hear people mention they’ve never seen snow. Yesterday was the 1st day it snowed. We didn’t get enough snow for it to stay but it won’t be long before we’re complaining about the 20 degree Fahrenheit & lower temps & shoveling our driveways. I compare Michigan winters to living in a freezer that has frost on the walls for 4 to 5 months 🥶 The ONLY day I like snow is on Christmas Day 🎄
They see snow in New Zealand, especially in the mountains. The hottest time of the year for them is around Christmas (Southern Hemisphere summer). White Christmases in NZ are nearly impossible.
I've the energy you guys put out in your videos...... it's so refreshing. Atlanta has my mad respect wanting to learn her way around a kitchen and use it functionally...... that is most impressive. I love that you all spotlight things you get in the mail so each person of your family can speak about a certain characteristic that is in "their box", and it seems to reflect the person's interest. Really great stuff.
Thanksgiving was basically built around a story about one of the first set of colonist here in America, known as the "Pilgrims" of Plymouth Colony (Massechucets). The holidy was celebrate in various forms until President LIncoln made it a national holiday and set the date to the 4th Thursday in November. The basics of the Meal are Turkey with stuffing (Sage or Cornbread, or Sausage, or Oyster....or any kind you might like), Mashed Potatoes, Green Bean Casserole, Candied Sweet Potatoe (eating with the meal as one of the savories, although it will be quiet sweet), Cranberry Sauce, and Gravy. Various other seasonal vegetables (Squash, corn, Turnips) may fill out your families table, and then becasue America is a land of imigrants, lots of worldwide regional foods end up on certain ethnicities tables. I know lots of italian families that will also serve a lasagna with the dinner and serve up a full antipasta platter before the meal. As long as there are different families there willbe differnt opinions on what is the perfect Thanksgiving meal.
Exactly! Also, usually some form of bread as well, either dinner rolls or biscuits (American style not English style). The time eaten also varies by when the whole family can be together. And most times extended family eat together also, if that is doable for the families involved. If people are in an area that they are away from family, or they don't have family, then they are invited to eat with friends- it is most often a fairly large group meal, because that's how it was originally. Although not everyone can do that, so it isn't always that way.
@@Daniel-wl7rl oh for sure, that's how I make I my green bean casserole too though I top mine with extra French's fried onions but he did mention the casserole so I wasn't going to harp on it lol. Green bean casserole is probably my favorite Thanksgiving side dish if I'm being honest though I'm aware that a lot of people aren't fans of the dish which is surprising to me.
I’ve recently discovered your channel and just have to say, I love the videos especially where you learn something new about America. Keep up the good work
I agree with so many comments. It is lovely to watch your sweet family during such difficult times. It takes my mind off what is going on in the world and in my life. Thank you to your wonderful family for all the smiles.
It is really cool that you got a mug and other items from the USS Hornet. I actually got to sleep overnight on the USS Hornet in the crew bunks. It was an awesome experience.
The recipe box is special. Atlanta can keep it forever and add to it as she cooks. I have the one my Mother gave me when I moved out at 19, I’m 57 now and used it yesterday. Great gift.
Love your show. It's like sitting in a living room with friends/family and enjoying the time. I live in Colorado and if I could I'd package up some snow and send it to you.
I love milano cookies. The unfortunate bit is that they're a bit pricey in comparison to other store-bought cookies, and there aren't as many cookies in the package.
But that’s part of the special nature of Milano cookies, right? If they are a bit more expensive, you don’t get to have them as often. And since there are only about eight in a packet, you savor each one. ❤️
@@ManiacGamer1988 I feel ya. 🤣 I eat the first one then look down a second later and wonder where the others went. I wish I could buy every Pepperidge Farm cookie and send it to them. That would make a great video!
Greetings from Virginia USA. My mother LOVED Christmas. She had 3 trees. 1 for the children (her grandchildren) colored lights and fun decorations. 1 for her pleasure. It was white lights and only silver and crystal ornaments. The 3rd was what we called the ugly tree. It was a dead branch spray painted white set in concrete in a galvanized pail. There was a competion each year for the ugliest decoration. That actually got a little fierce. You are a beautiful family and I enjoy your vids. Thank you!!!!
All I can say is I love this amazing, loving, gracious family. Thank you for brightening up our day. Atlanta. I know one day you will be a world class chef.
I live in Michigan, currently in Florida to stay warm. I live about 45 minutes from Frankenmuth and it’s a big tradition for a lot of people to go to Bronners for Christmas decorations.
Frankenmuth, MI is a magical place to visit. I have never been there in the Winter, but my husband and I went last Summer for the first time, even though we are only 3 hours away in Indiana. The ornaments are beautiful. I love watching your videos.
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday! Food usually includes Turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, cresent rolls, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. Tons of pumpkin pie with heaps of whipped cream!!
Just a tidbit about those magical recipe boxes. They get handed down from generation to generation. Always growing. So keep it growing, and doing what you love to do :).
I have just now found you guys and I AM ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE WITH THIS FAMILY !!! You all are just the most loving and wonderful family that I have seen in a long time. I am from Georgia.. So Im certainly loving that name Atlanta !!! I also love to cook as well. I just want to say that as parent's Sam & Nadine are TOP NOTCH...ppl around the world could take a lesson or two from you guys on parenting and just being engaged with your family. Denzel and Atlanta both are so well behaved and seem like they just love to learn so much. That has to come from such beautiful parents and how your family is together. It just fills me with such joy to watch your videos. Please keep them coming. I am trying to watch as many as I can and I want to send you guys some things from the Southern USA... Take care and much love from GEORGIA !!!
I love watching your vlogs. Such a loving and wholesome family. I’m from Michigan and live about an hour and a half away from that store. The whole town is beautiful and great to visit year round.
I definitely like that you are branching out your video ideas. Hopefully you get more food or products to try from other fans who live in the Asian, African, European or South American continents to show us all the interesting items each country has to offer.
I've always enjoyed Christmas season so much. To drive around and see the decorations on houses. My favorite thing to in the season is to go up to restuarant drive through not to order food but I love paying for the car behind me and drive off. I looked back once and seen a younger girl I just imagined the smile on her face. I love to give more then to get.
Milanos are one of my favorite cookies. They make a lot of different versions of it. Mint chocolate, orange chocolate, raspberry chocolate, marshmallow chocolate, dark chocolate, and so on.
I was excited for you guys when I saw the Milano cookies! They're so good. And I got really tickled when Nadine took the whole bag because when I was a kid, those cookies were my mom's favorite snack and it was the one snack in the kitchen that we were forbidden to touch 😂
@@kelseyk530 Yes, they are expensive. Especially considering you only get a few in a bag. But they are sooo good. You're right, something about it must appeal to the "mom" palette lol
Terry from Michigan.. what an absolute LEGEND! Growing up my family got one new personalized ornament every year. It’s pretty amazing to decorate the tree now and relive all those Christmases past as we pull those ornaments out one at a time.
White Christmas in America with White Christmas playing on the Radio. With hot chocolate and driving around looking at Christmas decorations. Nothing is better 😍💯
white Christmas's are amazing but can get old fast. where im from Illinois it can be -40 out with no snow. ours rotate most years, one year itll be really bitter cold with no snow, one year itll be just an ice storm all winter with no snow. then the next year its a little warmer with mountains of snow.
Here in NW Iowa it is much the same, the one constant is the weather will do as it does. Today it is in the mid 60s and low breezes. Perfect for Christmas decorating outside. It will more than likely be much colder when Jan hits.
Loved this video, Thanksgiving is giving thanks to the Lord for all our blessings and is spent with family and friends. We usually have turkey and cornbread dressing, green bean casserole, potato salad, mashed potatoes, deviled eggs and a scrumptious pie and pecan pie. Happy Thanksgiving from Georgia, U.S.A
So for Thanksgiving in America, many people make candied yams (sweet potatoes) as a side dish. Here is a southern soul food candied yam recipe. Ingredients 5 medium sized yams 8 tbsp salted butter 1 tsp ground cinnamon 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg 1/4 tsp ground clove 1/4 tsp ground ginger 1 cup granulated sugar 1/4 cup brown sugar 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract not imitation Instructions 1.) Preheat the oven to 350 F. 2.) Wash the yams. 3.)Peel, then chop the yams ( make sure that they are about 1/2 inch thick.) 4.) Place the yams into a 9x13 bake dish. 5.) Place the butter into a medium sized pot, then melt it over medium heat. 6.) Once the butter is melted, sprinkle in the white & brown sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground ginger, and ground clove. 7.) Turn the stove off, mix the ingredients, then add in the vanilla extract. 8.) Pour the candied mixture over the yams, and try to coat all the yams with the candied mixture. 9.) Next, cover the bake dish with foil, then bake the yams in the oven for 30 minutes. 10.) Remove the yams from the oven, and baste them with the candied mixture. 11.) Cover the yams, and bake them for another 15-20 minutes. 12.) Remove the yams from the oven, and let them sit for about 10 minutes before serving. 13.) Enjoy
I've always wanted to visit New Zealand. After falling in love with this family, I just have even more reason for wanting to visit your wonderful country. With all that is going on in this world of ours nowadays, it is so refreshing to see such a down to earth and absolutely wonderful sincere warm family such as yours. As I am alone and have no family of my own, you have brought me such joy and have made me feel like a part of your own family now. Keep up the great work and continue making your wonderful videos. Lots of love from Montreal, Quebec Canada
Thanksgiving with my family: Prep the turkey the night before and bake pies ahead of time. Spend all Thanksgiving morning cooking in the kitchen. We try to sit down and eat by the time football (NFL) games start. Thanksgiving is whatever we want to make it. I'm used to having green beans, Mac 'n cheese, stuffing, potato salad, and sweet potato pie. Sometimes we've had mashed potatoes, lasagna, collard greens, rice, and apple pie. Though I prefer apple pie around Christmas.
So sweet. Right now our U S Postal System has supended all mail going to New Zealand along with 22 other countries. Especially heartbreaking for me as My daughters family moved to your beautiful country 11 years ago. She lives in Wellington and I have missed two of my yearly trips to see the grandkids. Thank goodness for Mighty Ape. Thank you for sharing your kids with us.
That was fun to watch. I really enjoyed your joyful reactions to all of those. Bravo to all who sent great stuff! Mint is my favorite flavor of Milano cookies/ biscuits. Both the U.S. and Canada have Thanksgiving, but not on the same day (in fact, I think Canada's is a month earlier). They are both rooted in celebrations of and gratitude for successful and abundant harvests. My Thanksgiving menu includes turkey (slow roasted overnight), mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, green bean casserole, candied yams/ sweet potatoes, rolls, salad, and pumpkin pie. I love Thanksgiving dinner so much I once made one in the middle of summer! I can't wait to see yours and what you all think of the foods! Cheers from Colorado!
Y'all are the coolest family on the planet. You're so down to earth! Thank you for your interest in America and Americans! Y'all are in my thoughts and prayers! Keep up the great work!
This is very, very nice! I am glad you all have received these presents. You seem to be a very kind family, very appreciative and thankful, and the fact that you will be celebrating Thanksgiving is both fitting and a blessing you all deserve. The kids are all well behaved and respectful on camera, and this speaks to both your character and parenting skills. I wish you all good things in the future. Blessings as you navigate difficult times. I am amazed at Atlanta's budding culinary skills. If Denzel's humor takes after Sam's, you all will be in trouble, hehe. Sincerely, a retired middle grades teacher from Atlanta, Georgia.
The first Thanksgiving was 4 to 6 days long, with the fruits of their (Plymouth Colony) harvest set out to share with the Indians who helped them survive their first year when there was no time to plant crops and they quickly ran out of the supplies they brought with them. The turkey has been passed down as traditional, since it was plentiful and big enough to share. [They probably had venison, but it is not as easy to come by for most of us.] We don't truly know what else they had in the way of something cooked, so the dressing/stuffing (which varies from region to region), mashed potatoes with gravy (debate over white or brown), green beans mixed with mushroom soup and topped with canned "fried" onions/onion rings and yams (cooked as a casserole with miniature marshmallows and chopped nuts on top) and canned corn, have evolved as traditional foods [because that is what Grandma made]. You should be able to Google all and get numerous versions of everything, but you may have to alter the recipes to what ingredients you can get.
You all are so much fun! And seeing you enjoy one of my favorite things, Milano cookies, in any flavor, just prompted me to go buy some to celebrate your lovely family😂 Sending love and best wishes fro Oceanside, California.💕
I grew up and lived in Michigan until I was was 42. This store was on the way going to my parent cabin, in northern MI. They have beautiful things in Bronners Christmas store. If your a fan of Christmas decor, like me, you'll want nearly everything in the store. Ladies, also at that exit, they have a designer outlet. Which is a bunch of designer stores....But you pay a reduced price for items. God Bless your family💛

I visited that Christmas store and the size of it is amazing , it takes a good part of the day to walk through it.
I lived in Alameda CA where the USS Hornet is docked. For 5th grade graduations we spent the night on the ship. Very cool.
Seeing you guys open gifts got me a little misty eyed. I miss my family.
You forgot Pumpkin, Pecan, Mince Meat and Caramel Apple Pies.
How can you forget the Mac & cheese?
How do you tell foreigners it's tradition that we overeat on Thanksgiving without telling them? lol I think this comment section nailed it!
Atlanta’s excitement at the recipe box was EVERYTHING. So cute.
My favorite videos are you all trying foods and products from abroad!
The recipe box is special. Atlanta can keep it forever and add to it as she cooks. I have the one my Mother gave me when I moved out at 19, I’m 57 now and used it yesterday. Great gift.
Amazing family a truly must watch for me when I get the notification you posted a video. Well done guys.
Man I love having something that isn't toxic to watch for a change. Thank you for documenting for us all!
Love your show. It's like sitting in a living room with friends/family and enjoying the time. I live in Colorado and if I could I'd package up some snow and send it to you.
God bless Edward for all the love & kindness for this family. What you did for Atlanta was so thoughtful & considerate!
@@SheldonHelms Unless you're me, with no willpower whatsoever.
@@ManiacGamer1988 I feel ya. 🤣 I eat the first one then look down a second later and wonder where the others went. I wish I could buy every Pepperidge Farm cookie and send it to them. That would make a great video!
They have deals for Milano cookies at my local walgrees. 2 for 7$.
@@ManiacGamer1988 LOL you are not alone.
Such an amazing family! Love your content, keep up the great stuff! Love from America 🇺🇸
Don't worry. I'll send you a box of snow so you don't get homesick. 😂
In the south we do mac & cheese, corn casserole and pecan pie as well! Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday
Hey New Zealand family, you guys Rock!! My Son and I in America love you guys 💖
Love from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. You guys are an awesome family💙
What a Great Loving Family. Awesome Parents you Are
Love love thanksgiving food. We all love leftovers. Turkey dressing. Gravy. Now I’m hungry.
Cannot believe this family just started RUclips 9 months ago
This was pure joy to watch...like watching a family Christmas! Thank you for the privelege! :)
I absolutely love this family. Blessings to them
I was excited for you guys when I saw the Milano cookies! They're so good. And I got really tickled when Nadine took the whole bag because when I was a kid, those cookies were my mom's favorite snack and it was the one snack in the kitchen that we were forbidden to touch 😂
Same. They were my mom's guilty pleasure snack. Must be a "mom" thing 😆. Those cookies definitely are super tasty but expensive.
Mom loves these, but it looked like they had mint flavored. Mom always bought the original Milano cookies.
@@kelseyk530 Yes, they are expensive. Especially considering you only get a few in a bag. But they are sooo good. You're right, something about it must appeal to the "mom" palette lol
@@sassymess7111 Yeah, my mom got the milk chocolate ones too. The mint ones are good too.
I was surprised they didn't come with a note attached. These are the cookies mom's hide from their kids and eat in the pantry or bathroom.
Terry from Michigan.. what an absolute LEGEND! Growing up my family got one new personalized ornament every year. It’s pretty amazing to decorate the tree now and relive all those Christmases past as we pull those ornaments out one at a time.
What's up New Zealand family from Denver Colorado!! 👋👋👋
that's a huge haul!!!
This is gonna be awesome!!
My FAVY part of CHRISTMAS...Decorations...music...special foods...Being around family and friends !
Such sweet children and an amazing family. 🤦🏾♀️🙏🏽
This video needs to be added to the playlist. Love you guys
Loved this video, Thanksgiving is giving thanks to the Lord for all our blessings and is spent with family and friends. We usually have turkey and cornbread dressing, green bean casserole, potato salad, mashed potatoes, deviled eggs and a scrumptious pie and pecan pie. Happy Thanksgiving from Georgia, U.S.A
How good Denzel was when Atlanta got a special gift and there was nothing for him. Fantastic family!!
So for Thanksgiving in America, many people make candied yams (sweet potatoes) as a side dish. Here is a southern soul food candied yam recipe.
Ingredients
5 medium sized yams
8 tbsp salted butter
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground clove
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp pure vanilla extract not imitation
Instructions
1.) Preheat the oven to 350 F.
2.) Wash the yams.
3.)Peel, then chop the yams ( make sure that they are about 1/2 inch thick.)
4.) Place the yams into a 9x13 bake dish.
13.) Enjoy
Only a quarter cup? I usually put half
@@theabomb8305 Could always add more. 1/4- 1/2 cup as long it's within those ranges, it's fine.
@@mintyfresh4855 any more and it will ruin the taste of the yams
Some of us prefer sweet potato casserole over candied "yams".
@@nancyevans7765 I make that too
Your videos always put a smile on my face! Looking forward to "Atlanta's Kitchen" :)

You're all so wholesome & sweet 😭 i wish i was in a family like yours growing up 💙 from Colorado
Great gift Terry. Frankenmuth is amazing. Fellow Michigander here. We finally got snow here today and probably more tomorrow.
I love every one of these videos. You guys are awesome. Can’t wait to see Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I've been watching your videos for days. This family never fails to make me smile. God Bless!!!
Love your videos. You are an amazing family, always look forward to what’s next.
Y'all are the coolest family on the planet. You're so down to earth! Thank you for your interest in America and Americans! Y'all are in my thoughts and prayers! Keep up the great work!
Love watching this family. From Tucson, Arizona USA
Have to try sweet potatoes with brown sugar and cinnamon on top. Then burn marshmallows on top like s'mores.
I live 2 blocks away from the Pepperidge farm factory, I smell cookies and goldfish being made all day long I love it
You all are so much fun!
I so need to send you some snacks - Maybe a whole "Pepperidge Farms" box
That would be amazing!! ❤
Milano are definitely a favorite. I love the orange flavor especially.
A whole Pepperidge Farm box would be epic! They make so many things in so many varieties, it could fill a whole crate! 😆
