The marine antenna is tuned in length for the marine band frequencies. The FM and AM frequencies are quite a bit lower, and really require a longer antenna for best reception. Any metal tubing can be used to increase the length you have, and if you get the total length up to 30 or 31 inches, that would be the best for FM radio reception.

Seems like you started this video twice. I bought a magnetic antenna to place on the metal roof. It will be connected to an older receiver that I got for free. Bought some JBL speakers years ago at a garage sale for about $10. Should work well. I used a t-type antenna in my other metal building, and it works so much better that the little wire.

Works like a champ, best shop radio there is. When mounting the antenna use a metal plate make sure the plate is parallel to the ground to have a good signal.

Was curious why the Marine Antenna , or was that for your boat , is antenna work as well as a omnidirectional ?
I was reading and it was said the car radio is better to use being they have Better tunners the home radio

I used a marine fm antenna just for the price, it was the cheapest of them all. Any fm antenna will work fine, the radio does have a better tuner than the home stereo would. Any fm antenna will be omnidirectional just need a good ground plane (metal plate) to have a good wave length. If you have ever rode in a car that has the antenna on the roof or hood great reception but the ones that have them through the window at a angle not as good for longer distance, that is because the ground plane bounces the signal at a angle not parallel to the ground

I was reading in the Garage Journal about antennas and
One guy said this”A 'car antenna' is a monopole designed to work properly when mounted to the car where the body sheetmetal forms the groundplane. It wont work any better than a random wire when used without a groundplane. However If it were mounted to the metal building perpendicular to the surface then that could work well.”
Then i thought what your stating about how to mount antenna and the 90° bracket used , Im startn to get it , thanx for last explanation , so antenna while mounted to metal bldg , Needs to be in vertical position yet metal bracket to metal bldg and ground

Car radios are amazingly sensitive.I have picked up FM stations 200km away.
