@ but still far from optimised for a single lap run… they’re not even optimised for anything… they’re intentionally compromised for racing purposes. Pointing out something like this in a comparison of this nature is about as logical as pointing out any of the other design differences between the two formulas that are what makes this kind of comparison interesting in the first place. The whole point here is that pretty much everything about these two vehicles is fundamentally different in design and regulation.
@davidburke2132 you do realize that F1 cars have a qualifying compound, right? Prototypes do not. The Prototype produces more downforce, so there are errors in this simulation, which could be attributed to the tires, especially if the F1 is using qual tires, while the LMP1 is on tires designed to run triple stints. The LMP1 should have been able to hold more speed in places like the Porsche curves. The F1's advantages are more pronounced in braking. An example is to look at places like COTA, where they both race in real life, and see that the LMP1s would actually carry more speed through the esses. All the while, the F1 car's lighter weight and grippier tires make it much quicker at getting in and out of turns 1, 11, and the entire stadium complex. It's interesting to see where they overlap, with downforce vs. Brute force.
That's because LMP1s are limited on the horsepower they can produce and have tighter regulations(for balance of performance) overall as compared to F1.
F1 cars are so stupidly fast in the corners! They have gobs of power and high downforce to stick them to the track. I sometimes wonder what the cars could do if they weren't hampered by decades of "you can't do that" regulations.
I wonder how a late 90s Indycar would do. Those were absolute rocket ships in a straight line. I feel they would build up such a huge lead on the straight that the F1 car could never catch up.
wow, what a close race, i thought the f1 car had the win in the bag but it fell way behind, but a great recovery by the f1 let it take home the win, i wasn't lying when i said this was going to be interesting, another banging video!
The gap created by the "detour" of two chicanes at Hunaudières was made up in the short distance from the Porsche corner to the Ford chicane. After all, F1 cornering speed is still crazy.

Pound for pound, I would say the 2013-2016 lmp1 era had the fastest and strongest cars ever in motorsport. They hardly got damaged and could do over 360kmh. For 24 hrs that is insane
The F1 car would probably run with low wing as at Spa and Monza giving it a top speed equal to the LMP1. I think that open wheel LMP1 cars should be considered for the future of F1 as it would eliminate the necessary but unsightly HALO. In fact open wheel cars are so damn fragile and I wouldn't miss them.
Would it be possible to also include the 0-200kph times (or 100-200kph). For cars like LMP1 cars and F1 cars that would also be really interesting to see.
Well that was more than just LMP1 cutting chicanes, the F1 car didn't even use DRS on a track where it's most needed, AND it appears to be running high downforce hence why it was so fast in the corners BUT again on this track that was the wrong aero level as more time to be gained on the straights than corners, so basically impeding 3 different things instead of LMP1 just cutting g the chicane.
The F1 car was with a low df setup, if not it wouldn’t have reached 310 km/h. The DRS is a an overtaking gimmick used from lap 3, no reason to use it here

Ok, I’ve run hundreds of laps in iracing for LMP1 and the fastest time was around 3:12 and I was part of a team who won our split at Le Mans Iracing 24 hours. I’ve also driven several F1 cars in the same sim. F1 cars are ridiculously faster. Like 13-14 secs a lap faster. That on a track that doesn’t suit its strengths. The LMP1 is just as limited on boost use as the F1. If you could boost all lap it’d have a chance. But having no chicanes means you only gain a tiny bit of boost through energy recovery (you get a lot more through braking.) Yes, Iracing simulation means you have to watch your boost at all times. F1 would gain lots of charge under braking and engine braking. The LMP1 would de rate on the straights as its two wheel drive and only 600BHP or so in that mode. I love WEC and F1 but F1 is way faster, they have stupid levels of grip.
Hmm. That's a poor comparison. Put the F1 car on hard tires. Softs? Endurance cars don't get a tire choice and their tires are made for ultra long distance. They regularly double and triple stint, with some situations allowing quad stints. Those softs would last 2-3 laps at that track due to heat. Do it on hards, I think it loses. It only just got around the P1 before the Ford chicanes. It's going to lose a lot of ultimate corner grip and especially traction.
@@THEWINDTUNNEL not constantly, thats full boost, highest engine map and full hybrid.
