i see people making all of these poor choices quite often. its not uncommon for a person to have all of these habits. a person doesnt pack their lunch, so they have to spend money every time they are thirsty or hungry or snacky. they spend money on cigarettes, drugs, alcohol, gambling, junk food, expensive cell phones, cable tv, nice gym shoes...then they have no money til payday. thats not how i choose to live because i know how hard money is to come by
people buy $400 to $1200 cell phones and have to make payments on them. i would also point out that poor people who dont have enough for themselves should not be going out and making babies when they cant afford to expand their family, which means keep your zipper up and stay out of someone elses bed.
Costs of housing, utilities and basic foods have risen so far that the lowest income people can no longer make ends meet because their wages are still the same as years ago. But sure, their poverty is due to the fact that every now and then they indulge in stuff that makes life worth living. Wholly aside from the fact that poverty literally has such a negative effect on executive function that it makes it close to impossible to make good choices or quit addictions.
