  • Many owners of the Fender Hot Rod series of amplifiers have a frequent problem with the heating of the resistors R78 and R79, which can cause a lot of problems and even burn out and bring the device into an incorrect state. I assume that the engineers at Fender designed the circuit for powering the IC circuits in such a way to save money on the production of the amplifier itself, but in this way they created a problem and unreliability for the end users of these amplifiers. Many solved it with various ideas, from replacing those resistors with more powerful ones or mounting some kind of coolers on it and who knows what else. If the engineers had added another winding to the drive transformer and separately powered those circuits, many problems would have been solved. I was guided by that logic and I simply added a small transformer 20v about 200mA and solved that problem on my amplifier forever. Everything works perfectly and there is no heating of those resistances which can now be replaced with lower power resistors but the ones that are already there can remain on the pcb because that way you will have less work to do with removing the big board and replacing it.
