The Engine Bay..! You can build a full sorting system using splitters and mergers. This setup allows you to organize items moving through belts, helping manage what’s sent to and from each station. For the minecart stations, you can adjust their settings to only send or receive specific items, adding even more control. Just keep in mind, the carts will always take from the first available slot-so even if the station is full, if there’s one item in the first slot, it’ll grab that and go. That’s why I ended up going back to belts, even though minecarts are way more fun. Sell the gems!
The secret to building smooth rail carts is to use the shovel build a step ramp then lay down the rails. They will carve out a path just like the belts. Also mine rails don't 100% return resources sadly.
A mezzanine floor is a raised platform between the main floors of a building that provides extra space without extending the building's footprint. The word "mezzanine" comes from the Italian word mezzano, which means "middle".
Minecarts will pick up the first thing available, even if it is just one. So any further stations on the track will not get anything picked up. This is not changed with filters. Unless this is changed you only benefit by one item per route of track. So for three types of resources you need 6 lines of track. When you get several carts going it heavily impacts game performance. For those reasons I am staying with belts for now.

Splitters can select one item to send to one output, and the rest to the other.
