Another excellent video Santee, good to see old Bill again. Wallets had there uses, but money belts had multiple uses. As I recall my ancestor journey, after the boys father died (he thought he was his grandfather at the time). "Grandfather" pick the boy up, six years later and continue the journey. He was described as a gunslinger by the descendants and carried a "money belt", as wallets got in the way. His belt also carried bullets. But when he was riding the locomotive, he switched to the Wallet which he carried in a deep pocket in his coat over his heart, and laced with metal. I figured it out it was probably yto protect his heart, as there were stories of bibles been used for the same thing. Although the other side in this was how they "folded" the money in the wallet. The more I look into the boys travel, the the little details of his adventure with his dads dog, his father and "Grandfather" are amazing. Anyways, keep up the good work Santee and crew.

Thanks for the video, Santee. It is often surprising how far things go back in history. Here in the UK some 80% of payments are made by card so wallets tend to carry less money in them now. In fact many people use their phones to make payments. Phone cases are the new wallet. I no longer use a wallet as I rarely use cash any more. Cheque books, your check books, are a rarity today as well as very few people use them. We have come close to getting rid of them entirely but that are some business who still use them apparently.
@@ArizonaGhostriders They pretty much there already. My life partner has a touch card but she does not need to use it as her phone can do the same thing. And any payments using her banks app are instant. Mine won't allow me to pay using the phone as its a business account and therefore has extra security
Here in Canada most businesses no longer accept cheques. Every place has "the machine" that you use a debit or credit card to pay. But, I still pay my phone bill and rents with paper cheques but I am sure that sooner or later than will go away.
Fun Fact: In foreign countries where the Dollar is still King, cabbies and other workers who cater to the tourist trade; prefer clean crisp fresh bills. They'll even reject bills that have been crumpled up or have far too many folds or creases. Doubly so for older bills that are faded. The best part about old money from the good old days is that each bill could be redeemed for its face value, for gold; from the Federal government. Even said so right on each bill. Unlike today, where our paper bills are backed by *nothing at all!* Intrinsically worthless! Reminds me of certain mining towns long ago where the company owned literally everything in the town. All the stores, houses, etc. They even had their own money. Mostly coins, which they used to pay workers. So, it was worthless outside of the particular mining town you lived and worked in. Only able to spend it at Company-owned shops or stores for all you needed or wanted. And if you didn't have enough, they'd happily give you credit. Meaning you were stuck in that town because you were indebted to the Company. That's the Not-So-Fun Fact. Ironically, many folks believe those days are gone. Mining Company coins have been replaced by the pretty pieces of paper in our modern-day wallets.
Here’s another detail for my books old West inspired world: In the worlds of terragartha and earthstone the currency that the inhabitants use are Jade coins, and obsidian coins, as well as sand dollars and shells.
I've had friends who carry the larger unfolded bill wallets. They work well if you have an inside vest pocket in a coat or jacket, but become easy targets if stuck in a back pants pocket. Great idea
Can't believe you didn't get a Ridge Wallet sponsorship for this.
HA! Well, maybe one day.
Scourge of Tucson? Scourge? I can see Santee with Tucson over his knee, dusting some britches right sound!
Yeah, scourge means a blight or a curse. I don't want to put the city on my knee!
Pretty soon phones will be the wallet, if things keep progressing
@@ArizonaGhostriders They pretty much there already. My life partner has a touch card but she does not need to use it as her phone can do the same thing. And any payments using her banks app are instant. Mine won't allow me to pay using the phone as its a business account and therefore has extra security
Here in Canada most businesses no longer accept cheques. Every place has "the machine" that you use a debit or credit card to pay. But, I still pay my phone bill and rents with paper cheques but I am sure that sooner or later than will go away.
I’ve done a lot of leatherwork lately maybe I should give making wallets a try
Lotta sewing but worth it
how about a video on sniper(rifles) in the old west?
OK
Fun Fact:
In foreign countries where the Dollar is still King, cabbies and other workers who cater to the tourist trade; prefer clean crisp fresh bills.
Good facts!
Here’s another detail for my books old West inspired world:
In the worlds of terragartha and earthstone the currency that the inhabitants use are Jade coins, and obsidian coins, as well as sand dollars and shells.
🤠
@@ArizonaGhostriders thanks 😎🌟👍🏼
Now that the quarantine's coming to an end I'm gonna have to get me an authentic billfold to go with my 6 gun and pocket watch
Yes!
Dirty Dan is at it again
Always.
I really wish you would do videos on what women wore in the Old West. It's so hard to find information on what everyday women wore outside of movies.
I will.
