- In my quest to find the best video editor for Chromebook I think I finally succeeded. In fact, this entire video was edited on my Chromebook in Kdenlive.

I recently got a Asus chromebook and knowing that most editing software is on macbook and windows 10 it was hard to find a reliable editing software, bit when you stepped in you really helped me. So thanks for this, and later on this year I'll be most likely making some videos, so yeah thx.

When you showed that list of "video editor" apps from the play store I felt your pain. The only 2 apps that I find decent are PowerDirector and Kinemaster. Both have free versions that are basically previews for the real thing, but neither are good enough that I would be comfortable using them. Kinemster definitely has more effects (overlays and actual animation) but lacks the precision that Powerdirector has when trimming, etc. Tbh I never knew the world of Linux existed (not much of a computer wizard) so I'm thankful you post these types of videos. If I remember I'll leave an update on how things went on my Acer Chromebook 15.

PowerDirector, been using it for several years now. I purchased years ago without subscription, now I think is subscription only which sucks. If considering subscription model, I most recommend KineMaster as it's more feature rich than PowerDirector. However, PD is very reliable and has improved significantly over the years.
I use KineMaster to edit my videos. Works well I can do 4k although it does get buggy when editing 4k. Works great with 1080p video.

Oh, Mr. you should have posted this video before Christmas. I benefit from this video of two things. 1. found out that this model of Chromebook can handle video editing 2. Kdenlive

i downloaded kdenlive using these videos (+ another video to update the version of it), and i ran across an issue with the software itself; when i try to add a clip to the project, nothing shows up in my files? even when i click all files and show hidden files, it shows nothing? i have quite a few photos + videos in my files so i was just wondering if anyone has ever run across this issue and/or has a solution maybe?

I haven’t noticed any impact just by installing it, if you’re not running any Linux apps it just kind of lags dormant.
Obviously if you’re running Linux apps this will use resources, just like any other application, but it’s been working well for me!
when I go to play store, it says, "you do not have any devices", I can't download anything!

For those attempting to follow these instructions, it's spelled " Crostini". If you are using an actual chromebook, I wouldn't image you would have any issues. I haven't gotten it working on my Chrome OS Flex Mac (Early 2008) yet... Can't activate the "Linux development environment". It will start, but I get the message, "Chrome OS Update required". When I check, it is up to date. I'm open to suggestions.

Help! So I did all the steps and I can access the kdenlive but how do I update it? I went to the website and downloaded the version you said was better and whenever I tried to open the file I couldn't. If I tried opening kdenlive that I did in the terminal, It's still the old version.

just did this and immediatly went to version 20.12.3 which is one of the newer softwares, making it a lot easier
Awesome video again thank you very much for this info not sure if I will go down this route but I appreciate the info. I do have suggestion for a new video maybe you already have one but how about talking about a NAS server. And all the options such as RAID configurations. I’m suggesting this because that is what is recommended for PLEX. do you use Plex? If so what hardware do you use? Because you had that Dell OptiPlex, I went out and bought one but could not find a deal that you found so I ended up spending $90 on a 3020. Whether it will be powerful enough for Plex DVR is another story hence the suggestion for that topic. Thanks again for your videos!

I had built my own media server / NAS using Open Media Vault until this weekend when I got my first actual NAS box and switched to that.
It's an older QNAP TS-451+ but it's awesome and I do have Plex Server, as well as several other apps, running on it.

I've tried a couple of video editing apps on my Acer Chromebook 714 and the one that does almost all I need to edit my GoPro videos (mind you, only shot at 1080P) on the go is PowerDirector.

I tried power director and honestly found it a bit limiting.
Not saying it’s BAD by any means, it’s actually a really good app, I just wanted a little more capability than it provided.

Hey, yea, I've just spliced together some GoPro hero black 7 new York holiday footage filmed at 1080p 60 FPS and Powerdirector managed it very easily on the hp chromebook 14 x360. Tho - once you've made your video save it to the device then upload to RUclips. I uploaded direct fro the app the first time and it uploaded really rubbish and added a lot of stutter and lag as I think it changed it to 30Fps, but after I saved my MP4 to the device then uploaded in HD 60fps it works great.
But im desperate to try Kdenlive on Linux - 🤘 haven't turned on Linux yet but can't wait to try it
I'm looking at purchasing an Acer 714 and one use will be editing my go pro videos. Can the go pro be connected through USB to the Chromebook to allow video to be transferred from the camera to the Chromebook.

just delete linux and then reinstall linux. Hope it helped :)

You can prevent flashing by putting kde in crostini. Also, olive worked perfectly if some versions

Clipchamp is kindoff bad beecause it only has bad quality unless u pay a ton of cash
WHen he said he has 102 gb of storage, i checked my settings...15 ;_; it was nice knowing you animation software (sd cards come)
ok so it installed but when I tried to run the app it gave me this error "qt.qpa.screen: QXcbConnection: Could not connect to display :0 Could not connect to any X display." Any help? Also my chromebook will not let me use gpu acceleration for some reason.

David Glover Once they’re in that ‘Linux Files’ folder you can just use the import in Kdenlive and grab them from there.

Been using powerdirector, not bad got watermark and only 720p. Frustrating you cant overlay a 2nd video.

When I try to open my video files in kdenlive it says "error cannot open project file" is there a way I can fix it?
Well for like the past few weeks I was using Clipchamp it worked decent and it was pretty easy to use

how do you just get all of your clips there I don't get it the kden app uses a completely different file
You just have to copy your clips over to 'Linux Files' in the file explorer

So I have installed the video editor and I can see any of my video files. And there is no way to get to the flash drive I have them on. How do i get them to show up so I can edit?

so my default version was 20.12.3 and I'm getting the playback buck where it flashes black then video
is there anyway to downgrade it to a version that wont do that?
to get rid of the flashing you go to chrome://flags and search crostini GPU in the search bar at the top and disable it

Nice vid. I am planning to buy the Sumsung Galaxy Chrome. The specs seem decent but what i want to know is if i can be able to edit videos using PlayStore Appa like Kinemaster etc.
I opened up the crosh terminal but it isnt the same as yours and im wondering how to open up the same terminal that you have

I just bought an Acer Chromebook 311. (I know very little about computers.) All I want to know is what video editor app can I use to make my videos nicer. I also want to use features like green screen & picture within a picture (like for reaction videos.) Can you (or anyone else give me some suggestions? Any advice is truly appreciated!

Am starting to do basic 1080 moto blogging, I don't need to do anything fancy, just string different segments together. I own a Lenovo Duet chrome tablet with a matching keyboard, I wonder if I could use that to edit videos, it is a very weak tablet, nothing fancy or powerful, I wonder if this would work, or if anything else out there that would do a decent job.
