SMS Ostfriesland - Best Known As a Giant Target

It's an unfortunate fate, for any ship, to be best remembered as a target. For SMS Ostfriesland, it's a double-edged sword. Not only is she best remembered for being a target, it was as what amounted to a publicity stunt.
The tests that she was subjected to were important. At the same time, it still became a giant media circus. For better or worse.
And because of that, her service in Germany is largely forgotten. Perhaps not the most exciting of German ships, but still worth remembering. Certainly as something other than a giant target.
