Hello Sensible Advice guy. I'd love to be able to speak with you by phone...I'm a huge AITF fan, I actually had the opportunity to meet Carroll O'Connor in 1998 when he came to my city to make a movie, and, we also met Sally Struthers in 2007, at a grocery store in southern Maine, she did (or maybe still does) Summer theatre at the Ogunquit Playhouse, in Ogunquit Maine. Both of them were really nice, especially Archie. I love your reactions, you laugh at exactly the right times LOL. I'm of the age where I watched this show as an adolescent.
First of all , yes , you are correct . Your house is your house , so therefor , YOU decide what you wish to display inside of it ... Gloria and Mike , well .... they just live in with them , but that'll change in a season or so , as they end up living NEXT door to them ( Edith happy , Archie also happy , but much later on ... as Mike still keeps coming into their house , to take food from THEIR fridge !! 😂😂😂😂😂 I know his family ( & neighbours ) all seem to have a screw lose somewhere , but in the end , they DO love one another ... ( I remember growing up and watching all of it ! ) Now , watching it through grown up eyes , I actually understand much more ... The writers are brilliant ... truly . A whole half hour full of laughter ... Of course they must have known , this really got to the viewers ..... But ..... try taking it with a pinch of salt , okay ? It's ACTING after all ... Thing is , they are that tuned into eachother , it makes you feel , like you're watching a real life family . Great actors , all of them . Personally , it depends on the episode , if I feel for Archie or not . Depending on the subject and his often narrow mindedness ! Archie HATES CHANGE ..... He's a creature of HABIT , who , often is confronted being married to a " dingbat " , one with a golden heart though ... she wouldn't hurt a fly . There are going to be episodes that you'll like either better or less then the previous ones ... But that keeps the surprise element going ... Living the Bunker Life , takes us on a journey ... One , where we laugh & believe it or not , cry at times ... We get angry and yet have empathy ... That's what makes All in The Family such an awesome sitcom . 👍👍👍 So , please continue to be amazed at further development ... as they of course also age ... Gloria and Mike will get a son ... so very funny , right through the whole pregnancy . Bear with these shows , they are so WORTH IT ! Yes , Archie doesn't have an easy life , with his wife and daughter , son in law , Edith's family and his neighbours . But it all makes for gr8 entertainment ! ***** A nice fact ! 👍 Archie ( Carrol O'Connor ) , was allways fighting for EQUALITY OF RIGHTS , for the coloured Americans , next to being an actor . He wasn't anywhere close to being a racist ! Does that not surprise you ? I enjoy your input at the end . A lot of us do , but not everyone leaves a comment ( shame ) ... You do have lots of viewers though ! And I , for 1 , am happy you are putting these shows up , for us to enjoy once more ... I watched them every friday night , as a teenager , with the whole fam in front of the TV ... popcorn at hand and all ... Now , at the age of 60 , I'm truly enjoying seeing this Bunkerism' back on here , bringing back good memories ! It might please you to know , that my father was very much on Archie's side ! The show was a big hit in Australia as well !!! Cheers & thanks for taking the trouble to upload , please keep it up ??? Enjoy the rest of your sunday , A loyal viewer , Gloria ..... ( that is REALLY my name , lol 😂😂👍 ) Hoping my comment helps you to understand ???
I was a teenager at this time and grew up with a WW2 vet father...and I lived in the NYC area as well. So I 'get this' whole environment, on what's happening in these episodes. I really believe if you weren't around at this time or were to young to understand this time in America...then you can easily 'miss' some of the points being made. When Mike talked about Corporations taking over government or big money in our politics...he was spot on. Because look now in 2024 how all that unfolded in America, over the decades. This fella is to young to recall those days and he grew up in the Middle East...so I'm not shocked at some of his opinions, and how he looks at some of these episodes. Just like if I watched some of the shows he grew up with and my opinions of those shows...I'm sure would be different than his, some of the times. Because I didn't grow up in the Middle East and therefore have a different mind set on some of these subjects than he has. But looking at the world...culture...society... from different view points is fine, that's what makes the world go around. If France and Italy didn't give us those wonderful pieces of art and if Egypt and other Islamic countries didn't give us their art forms as well.....well the world just wouldn't be as meaningful or as beautiful. And yes you make a good point...they all love each other in this family, regardless of their differences.
Responding to your reaction I think it would have have been different if Mike and Gloria decided to put that in their own space in bedroom but not in livingroom I agree with you it’s her fathers house
All good storytelling has conflict and one of the ongoing themes, in this series, is Archie's discomfort for sexuality. It's the classic generational conflict that fuels the series. Second, unlikable characters are part of a good show. Gloria can be bratty, stubborn, loud and short-fused, like Archie, as Mike pointed out (I would have put the statue in my room and I am sympathetic to Archie's conservative sensibilities, in this case) Archie is so resistant to change, even when it's progressive and he's rigid in everything, from this taste in food, clothing and sexual expression. I am only just noticing that he wears the same, dated clothing, like a uniform, each episode, a throwback to 50s and early 60s clothing. Now, Irene isn't evil, she's inconsiderate, no relationship is perfect. So, I continue to accept and meet characters where they are and not where I think they "should" be. That's what makes the show interesting.
Even back then tv was pushing hard degeneracy liberal ideas and ways of thinking and this show was the start of it. You are expected to take Archie for the idiot and the fool. But after decades of witnessing the destructive nature of those liberal ideas and ways of thinking Archie now can be seen as the voice of reason and understanding the importance of morality.

That was a beautiful moment towards the end between father and daughter and Archie’s apology which is rare
This is how life was back in the 70s and even 80s I’m Indian and I remember my dad was so blunt and hilarious

I love it when Mike does Groucho.
I'm French and I find this hilarious, ony Archie can get away with this.
Enjoy your reactions, even though I don't always agree. Thank you for being a real reactor. 👍
