I always liked Katanas although my favorites were the real sport touring versions from the late '80's and early '90's. For those days a comfortable bike with (optional) removable luggage that pushed 136 hp and where a guy and his wife could ride two up on long trips just made more sense for the Katana. These today are again like the early ones from when I was young, .. all out sport bikes and I think most people looking for that are going to consider the GSXR instead. This bike's okay if you want something different, and I have to admit I love the black one, and I'd love to own one because they're unique, but the fuel capacity is too small for long trips, and the wife would never be comfortable on the back of that. ;)
im not sure the rear of the bike fits the front. seems as if a different designer for front and back. The front is what throws most people off but i think its cool but just doesnt seem to belong on this bike. looks more like a garage custom. imagine the rear end from a mv super velocce on this bike. that would look sick
We have fuel stations on highways but the outback can run out of fuel plus it limits you to where you can go.. we have have over 1,000klm between some fuel stations, we have to rely on sheep and cattle stations and even they mostly use diesel. Google Canning Sock Route, Gunbarrel Highway, Tanami Road, I used to tour with a 5.5 UK gallon tank plus 5 gallon jerry can: some of our interstate trucks that go off the main highways have tanks that hold 2,000 litres: some roads have changeable signs to warn there’s no fuel at towns. Australia, you can ride 1,000 miles in a straight line and still be in the same state.
I don't know why this bike is getting positive press. It's just a GSX-1000S with different plastic on it. And no one even talks/reviews that bike it's so blah.
The designers were 3 year old children who'd never set eyes on a Katana, obviously. Put the engine and running gear into the clothes of the original Katana, along with tiger stripe paint options, and you might sell a fair few more.

I need a 300klm fuel range and a 12l tank just won’t cut it... Why so small? Add 5l and I’d buy one.
Another 3 litres and I'd replace my B-King with it.

Because it's more about capturing the classic look with a slimmer tank than being a sports-touring bike.
