Why do Brits love Harlan Coben? Why do I enjoy his British miniseries more than I enjoy his books? (The answer to that is because I'm an Anglophile). PLEASE HELP.
Don’t know if you’ll see this, but Utopia (channel 4 series)…. My absolute favourite tv series ever. I binge series 1 and 2 on Blu-ray every birthday and it never gets old.
Some suggestions; Happy Valley - Sarah Lancashire, as a British policewoman, only downside there should be more series! The thick of it - political comedy with possibly one of the sweariest characters ever! Line of Duty, - cop series with lots of twists Episodes - A comedy, based on 2 British writers in the US, Matt Le Blanc as a parody of himself! The night manager - thriller mini series with Hugh Laurie & Tom Hiddlestone
Fantastic taste! The only one of those I HAVEN’T seen is Line of Duty, so I will definitely add that to my list! I agree, Happy Valley should have had more episodes. I loved The Thick of It. Started watching because I like Peter Capaldi but also because the creator also created Veep. Then I watched the prequel, In The Loop. It was great to see elements of both series in the film.
You have to watch 'Killing Eve'! Forget about the other roles that she has played, Jodie Comer is outstanding (she won an EMMY) in this series, as is Sandra Oh. It is intriguing, shocking at times and not so complex that you cannot follow the story lines that overlap the seasons. I cannot wait for season 4, hopefully in April (BBC America shows it way before BBC in the UK). You will not be disappointed.

I’m not caught up on Dr. Who, still on the Peter Capaldi years. To be honest, I lost interest after Amy and Rory left. I don’t care for Clara, she hung around way too long.
I'm so sorry, I'd love to answer your question about Harlan Coben but I can't, as I've never even heard of Harlan Coben, so wasn't even aware of Harlan Coben and I read a lot. In fact I'm so glad you made reference to him again in the comments as I didn't even know how to spell Harlan Coben 😜😁👍
I spent a lot of time on Netflix while I was in Kenya. The Only thing Brittish we watched was After life with Ricky Gervais. Completly random, but we binge watched Almost the entire series of Teen Wolf
Forget your preconceived opinion of Jodie Comer from her role in Doctor Foster and make a point of watching Killing Eve, it’s really good, you won’t be disappointed. Jodie has won the Best Actress Emmy for her performance in the role of Villanelle in the series, so that has got to be some form of recommendation. And although she play a psychopathic assassin, you will grow to love her, believe me! And of course Sandra Oh, who plays Eve, is equally wonderful as well.
@@BritTucky Thank you for that encouraging news, I’m glad I mentioned Sandra Oh now. Actually, she is the lead actress in the series and it was my first time seeing her in a continuous role ( I didn’t watch ER ). I have been aware of her as an actress for many years, I just hadn’t really seen her before, but, I’m a fan now. I love her acting style and she is really thoughtful and articulate when being interviewed. The rest of the cast are excellent and are working with a very good script and storyline, sprinkled with ‘black humour’ despite its subject matter. I hope you might share some feedback with us, if you like it. Although commissioned by BBC America, it’s a British Production, here is a 59 sec. BBC UK teaser trailer for the first series, just to give you a taste of what is to come: ruclips.net/video/hznkE6lIeBU/видео.html
I believe it's known in the US as MI5. Not sure why they changed the name but it seems to be a potentially offensive word for some reason, not sure what.
Ohhh maybe that's why I haven't seen Spooks on anywhere. I do have MI5 on my list. I know that spooks means spies, but it's a bit too close for comfort to a derogatory term Americans coined to refer to Southeast Asians.
There was a period where Michael C Hall and Rob Lowe were in quite a few things here in the U.K. I guess for some it was to make use of someone different from the regular British, etc... crowd as some can get type cast after a while so even if the role they are playing isn't what they'd usually do, it would throw people and they wouldn't get it if you know what I mean. Broadchurch was okay but when they did the American version, it lost a lot of it.
I didn’t bother with the American version of Broadchurch. Americans always dumb-down British shows, and I haven’t found an American adaptation yet that is better than its British original (even The Office). I do recall Rob Lowe appearing in You, Me, and the Apocalypse, but as an American.
@@BritTucky There was a TV show called Wild Bill, aired in June to July in 2019. It was on the premise a widowed U.S. Miami, police chief who comes to Boston, Lincolnshire, U.K. with his daughter and comes Chief Constable of the Boson Constabulary. It only saw six episodes in the one season before being cancelled.
OMGOSH sooo many. Arctic Monkeys, Adele, Ed Sheeran, Elton John, alt-J, Spice Girls, Radiohead, Blur, Ellie Goulding, Queen, Placebo, Florence and the MAchine, Oasis, just to name a few. I'll listen to just about anything as long as it's upbeat.
Tbh I think most of us haven't even heard of Harlan Coben! I think for whatever reason some writers like to reference him. Maybe it makes them feel like they're a part of some exclusive club? Why do Brits take his stories and reset them in the UK? Well, why do Americans take so many British stories and reset them in the US?! I suppose they're trying to make it relatable to their target audience.
Americans are so bad at recreating British shows. They come across as a dumbed-down version of the original. I think I prefer Coben’s shows to his books (even though I’m reading one right now) because British shows in general treat the viewer with respect and don’t insult the viewer’s intelligence.
I’m not that enthusiastic about the recent years with our Drama shows, just seems a little bit to Hollywood for me and obviously made to sell abroad and capture a foreign fan base..... A true home grown Drama based on British real circumstances are hardly seen abroad and largely ignored....can I be as bold as to recommend a 3 part mini series broadcast in 1982 by ITV staring Ray Lonnen & Derek Thompson. It’s about a British army officer on a covert operation to track down an IRA assassin. It tear jerking stuff as he becomes one of the community but still has to kill the assassin who is just a family man caught up in the troubles and wants out for the sake of his family’s future....Its called HARRYS GAME and the theme tune is by CLANNAD, it’s a rare one but a poor quality is on you tube...
@@BritTucky Callan, that’s definitely and old one, think I was a babe in arms when that was originally broadcast. Staring Edward Woodward. Try saying his name whilst drunk...it comes out Edward Wooooodwooohhhwooid Woooody ward ed wood 🤣😜😁 Thank for the reply enjoying your channel keep up the great work 👍🏻

I just got my wife into Dr Who but I think that’s on Amazon prime., Allo Allo & she loves the IT Crowd. Ripper street is absolutely awesome.

We have a Harlan County in Kentucky, after Colonel Harlan Sanders of KFC fame.
@@BritTucky you also have a Senator Bernie Sanders of I'd like to make your country better while wearing mittens fame 😁
Haha true, but unfortunately Bernie is not from Kentucky. Instead, we have TurtleMan, aka Mitch McConnell.
If you want a good comedy Modern Life is Goodish from Dave Gorman. He put all the episodes on his RUclips channel
Awesome, thank you!
i urge you to watch killing Eve, it's one of the best series i have ever seen
