Ludwig Vorgrimler invented the CETME & G3 using the same roller delay mechanism and layout as the STG-45, which he also helped to invent while working at Mauser near the end of the war. The safety/selector, the whole trigger pack, the location of the recoil spring, etc... is all still extremely similar, too. The G3 was literally born out of the STG development and testing programs. It shares way more in common than the AK does, except the cartridge. The 7.62x39 cartridge is the only thing about the AK that has been definitely proven/admitted to have been based on Russian testing/encounters with the STG and its intermediate 8mmKurz cartridge. So in my opinion, rechambering the G3 for the AK cartridge is the closest thing to a modernized STG that has ever existed (a similar case could also be made for the 5.56 roller-delay systems, especially the CETME-L or HK 33/93 derivatives).
Looks like a hoot to shoot! Where did you find a full auto carrier in stock? Been thinking about grabbing one as a sear host myself, but it seems the full auto bolt carriers by PTR are always out of stock.
I am sorry for the delayed reply. DO NOT buy a ptr FA carrier for this. I went thru 4 carriers and finally had to buy a tungsten filled hk FA carrier. Only way it’ll work. Needs that weight for anti bolt bounce or it’ll jam all the time.
I have owned MG’s for over a decade. JUST recently got to shoot a FA AK myself. I shot a stock FA full sized AK. Hell NO, that’s like getting slapped with a 12” schlong 30times. Holy cow is it violent. BUT i do know a KNS piston would tame it down a lot. This thing shoots smooth as can be. Love the slow choppa ROF.
PTR-32 with select auto sear, so you basically turned the PTR-32 into the HK-32 prototype.
