I very much appreciated this interview. Thank you! I would offer that personally, I find it very helpful to distinguish between "respect" and "honor" since I cannot "respect" my parents...(I hope I'll find forgiveness, one day), but I can "honor" them by doing/being my best, no matter what they did.
Trauma certainly did have a huge impact on my personality. It made me petulant, angry, distant, and when provoked, mean. Just like my parents...except they're mean without provocation.
Healing trauma often requires the emotional equivalent of 'lancing a boil', which can be very physically painful .. .. until the trauma is 'brought to a head' acknowledged and released.
Absolutely shapes identity. I was born one person but was completely transformed by childhood trauma, abuse and neglect. I'll never know the person I was born as.
You were also transformed by all the growing and healing you've done since then. You might need to grieve the little child that might have been, I've been thinking about that alot.
Social media do the opposite…. People judge each other without knowing the person…….and eveb if they a bit they dont care or they think that the good stuff about person is just a social media mask, ……good stuff are shared less.
25 minutes into this session and Dr Van Der Kolk has not mentioned the work of Victor Frankl identifying Concentration camp survivors who were able to 'find a meaning in their suffering' were able to survive the experience mentally intact. Very disappointed 😢
Another great conversation... thank you YY and Dr Kolk.
This is an epic conversation
Thank you thank you thank you Rabbi YY and Dr Van Der Kolk!

it's not possible to 'name' all the horror that human have done to each other... it would take decades, no other species harms so much as we do ... 😢
