How can anybody lack the compassion to show anything but respect and admiration for survivors of the holocaust. What a lovely testimony. She has such a quiet and clear speech and an aura of sweet happiness and contentment.
Magot is amazing, all the tragedies and horries she lived through, and she is still so strong. She is so wise, and I loved hearing her words of wisdom about life. I loved her friendship with Dita and Erica. Margot faced so much sadness, but she still manages to bring up 2 great children, swim, hike, volunter, wow, she is superwoman. We will always remember. Thank you for your testimony. I'm sorry you lost your family, that is very sad.
Holocaust survivor stories are oh so important and Margot gives great inspiration. Thanks for sharing your life story. Also, I am stunned to see negative comments. They make me more committed to be an active ally of all oppressed.
Sadly, I am no longer stunned to see negative comments , anywhere. However, your comment “(they) make me more committed to be an active ally of all oppressed “ was the perfect thing to say. It lifted my heart , as did Margot’s survivor story . Thank you, Margot and thank you Paul . You both inspire hope.
Like most of us we are shaped by our life experiences, this comes through very much in Margot. It has built her personality during the very formative years of any child growing up. Those were the worst experiences that a child could endure. Margot is a strong person, a no frills lady.
Thank you for your testimony. It's beautiful to hear about such an important relationships between women even during terrible times. And as a swede it feels good to know some swedes did do some well
I think if I was interviewing somebody and they said they watched a man step on a baby, I'd pause. I'm not sure why some interviewers don't pause to let things "sink in" I'm very relieved this woman saw a psychiatrist. I hope many survivors have. My dear interviewer, when you are starving every day there are no birthdays.
Can't belive there are already homophobic and trans exclusionary comments on a holocaust testimony. I find that lacks respect for her story and shows that those people didn't understand anything explained in the testemonys. Thank you for this amazing testemony.
Just bc someone doesn’t agree w the LGBTQ+ community that doesn’t mean they are transphobic. Phobia is a irrational fear of something, I would say most of us are all about live and let live. We respect all but that doesn’t mean we have to believe the same way. I’m not saying this to disrespect this woman. I am happy she found love and contentment but I’m tired of people who claim victim hood are often the main ones showing hate.
Its ridiculous how the heterosexual left have stolen that word “ queer “ . It makes me cringe when people say “ folk” too. Derek Jarman writing the word QUEER in AIDS infected blood in an art gallery in 92 was cool though
I love this interview, you can tell she is/was mentally strong 💪🏼 ❤ I love how she tell it as it was from her experience! Each survivor went through their own type of hell on earth. I always pray that each one of them had a good life after the dust settled. I admire that so many of the survivors of the Holocaust went on to finish school and so many of them not only survived but thrived. As a person that lives in south Louisiana, every single time you hear about the south it’s always something about racism. The majority of people in Deep South where I live are not racist at all, most white people here have mixed children. They do have a little racism but as a white southerner that was not raised racist at all and all the people I know aren’t racist at all. I’ve experienced more racism from people of color than the other way around but by no means do I feel like all POC are racist. The black friends that I have admitted to me many times to be careful and not trust most because they were genuinely many that could/ would harm me. I have two daughters and I raised them the same way my parents raised me. I always taught them to never just stand silent if you see/ hear someone being singled out for being different. My 19 year old daughter that is in college is in a lovely relationship with her black girlfriend for the last two years. I found out that she considered committing suicide due to worry about what other would think about her, as well as worrying about disappointing us, her parents. I told her that at the end of the day no matter who she chose to love that as long as the person treated her great, and had great qualities that it didn’t matter what race nor sex we’d always love and support her choice. We absolutely love her girlfriend like she’d be a 3rd daughter. I assume people feel like they’ve gained another child when their kids marry a man. I feel this is no different. The thing that makes me so proud is they push each other to be a better person. To me that’s very important. Then I have my amazing 17 year old that is the most amazing, loving young you could ever hope for. Sorry for the book for anyone that takes the time to read it. I’m sure along the way, I’ve missed punctuations😂 mis spelled words, as well as many other errors😂💀🤦🏻♀️
A marvellous and inspiring woman. Didn't hear anything from Margot herself about her being a lesbian but it is important to point that out because so many LGBTQ people suffered at the hands of the Nazis and their story gets stifled by homophobic historians who are frightened to mention the "L" word lest it offends their "respectable" society. A great documentary.
That’s because after the banner putting “Holocaust” and “Queer” in the same sentence made one think that was going to be the topic. Margot maybe mentioned two or three sentences about Dita (sp?) in the entire video. This is called “a cheap way to get people to tune in to your channel”. 🙄
What a well articulated woman. She seems so friendly. But why did her sequal preference have to even be mentioned as it does not matter and has nothing to do with everyone.
The Nazis should’ve asked that question first. But they didn’t. They targeted people who were specifically homosexual. So their sexuality determined if they lived
The Nazis had plenty of Homosexuals, the Night of the Long knives got rid of quite a few of them, I believe that was in 1935 Ernst Rohm of the SA was murdered along with members of his group.
But what about Lore? She was a "fellow human being". Perhaps you need to ask her forgiveness, Margot? I am sure that she loves and forgives you already, but this I think could heal some of that depression.
The notes state that more than 20 years after this interview (in 2004 or sometime thereafter) Margot came out and explained that her relationship with Dita was romantic, even in the horrible camps. I am so happy to hear that Margot and Dita had each other in the camps.
Although this entire video is absolutely marvellous, and i truly do adore *Margot,* tbh i really did not hear any particular specific mention of - or reference to - anyone´s being queer actually, apart perhaps from certain oblique, vague, sort of ¨read between the lines¨ allusions, hints and suggestions possibly...?? *~*USC S*F** 💖💖💖
Are you saying being queerc is somehow revolting to you? After the interview she updated the interview that she and Dita had a romantic relationship. Hitler persecuted LGBTQ people and LBTQ people wore pink triangles in Camps so it holds relevance just like Holocaust Museums have a section on LGBT fates in camps. So attempts at erasing or censuring would be bigoted.
I liked your testimony. Margot because it didn’t. Involve the torture and grusome cruelty that other persons had to explain or go though… .it is still a cruel world we all live in. And all thanks to selfish heartless so called humans…notice this kind of persons wouldn’t take on their own kind ,no way they wouldn’t have the nerve to…
I greatly appreciate her story. My only problem is using her to make it a queer story? That would be like saying "Holocaust amputee story" when someone becomes an amputee 50 years later. This was a clear push down an unrelated path to get views when her sexuality was 100% unrelated. The comment about "phobia" is utterly ludicrous.
Well Hitler did not target and persecute amputees so it is relevant. Do you write compaints at Death Camp Museaums that they have part of the exhibit dedicated to the fate of Jewish and Gentile LGBTQ People? Do you send those museums comments about LGBTQ camp triangles and persecution of LGBTQ People “irrelevant like talking only about amputees”? If not, if you recognize how tone-deaf and disrespectful and censurial that would be, why bring it up under such a beautiful ladies Testimony here? Read the description, read the comments, the Title IS relevant and important “Dita was part of my whole life”, after the interview she updated that she and Dita’s relationship was romantic. Distasteful how Hitler tried to erase LGBT people and the same is happening in the comments, happily younger. generations know better.
With all due respect and total respect for Margot and their family - why is this testimony described as Queer but Margot does not say anything about how they identify or their experience as Queer or even if they identify this way but the film is entitled this. I feel it’s misleading and exploitative to engage a viewer and take them down another rabbit hole they might not be ready or capable of watching.
You do realize term Queer historic perspectives is universally used in the Academic World to describe the History of all LGBTQ people, not only trans people? One can read the description before posting an angry comment. Also, claiming that a title with the word “Queer” is “an irresponsible rabbit hole for viewers” lacks logic as the title clearly denotes the thematic content of the Testimony and pushes a homophobic narrative that being LGBT is negative and somehow harmful to viewers.
.produce (a picture or diagram) by making lines and marks, especially with a pen or pencil, on paper. "he drew a map" 2. pull or drag (something such as a vehicle) so as to make it follow behind. "a cart drawn by two horses"
Please reconsider renaming this video. The 'queer' term may have caught on with the younger members of the 'community' but it is still such a derogatory term; surely this survivor has suffered enough.
This interview is from the 90s while term queer was alteady used by LGBTQ people since the 1960s and becoming normalized in popular culture since the 2000s, this Survivor passed only recently so clearly she was okay with the new title.
Remind me blue menthol when I came to Canada l lived with German Mennonite community . They hate Hitler & ask them why ? They escape from 2nd world war & settled down in Canada Blue menthol is small town in Canada . Of course I lived in east & west Berlin not long enough
It’s an American terminology for gay & I find it very insulting (im not gay) so can’t imagine how insulting gay people feel with the word. In the U.K. we only used the word gay in the older days.
Clearly people in the comments lack awareness of the term “Queer Studies” and that in Academia historic LGBT perspectives are always titles “the Queer history of XYZ”. In this historic context the term is professional in academic literature has been universally used by researchers for decades now.
There are no queer or transgender women in her story. I have listened to dozens of holocaust survivor interviews. She and her best friend Dita were like sisters and every holocaust survivor says nobody would have survived without close friendships or sticking together in small groups, as they could then help and watch out for each other. You could not survive as a loner. She has 2 children and was very happily married. She and her friends were not homosexual.
Why the haughty assumptions that you know better and “she was not queer”? LGBTQ people were targeted and persecuted by Hitler and had special triangles in Camps. Read the description and the comments before making staunch disagreeable assumptions, she purposefully updated her. Testimony.
Pretty sure celebrating that fact....as we are celebrating it this month, has everything to do with it. We celebrate how far we have come since these times.....
Gay people were targeted. Gay men were seen not as real men and thrown into the camps as well they had the pink triangle. Women were not demonized as much because they could be used for breeding. But this story didn't have anything to do with that and wasn't mentioned in a way that would reflect it.
@@theresevarney4715 Then why were they put in these very camps for their sexual orientation if it’s not so important?? I think the heterosexual world makes it out to be very important if one is not heterosexual and always has and still does, Uganda being an extreme example of what I’m saying.
I’m surprised the word”queer” was used in the title. With as hypersensitive as people are today I’m surprised they weren’t forced to change the title or have the post taken down
She actively asked for the Testimony to be updated that Dita was her Romantic Partner. LGBTQ people were targetted and persecuted by the Nazis. They had to wear pink triangles in camps. Historically Survivors were outright asked to erase their LGBTQ identity from their narratives and written testimonies. Since she asked for her testimony to be updated clearly it HAD importance to her, it is haughty and homophobic to. claim you know better than what was her wish.
The title of his video is just awful, trying to shoehorn this woman's testimony into a frame which fits modern LGBTQIA++ ideology is just disgustingly cynical.
@@chrishartung4702 Ok, what has that got to do with the modern ideologically driven use of the word "queer" which started on US University campuses in the early 2000s???
When? Let's discuss your idea when heterosexuals are being stigmatised, discriminated against, forced to undergo conversion therapy, castrated, sent to concentration camp for being heterosexual and given death sentences for their mere being themselves like in Uganda.
Do you realize how ignorant and bigoted you just showed yourself to be? You sound like the same type of person who complains about Black History Month, sadly. And you chose to leave such a comment on this brave survivor’s testimony, displaying the very hatred and bigotry she speaks out against? Ugh.

Pretty sure celebrating that fact....as we are celebrating it this month, has everything to do with it.
We celebrate how far we have come since these times.....
@@jlcollins7673 Don't you think there is far more important information than her sexual preference? Nobody cares, not then, not now! Ridiculous!
@@theresevarney4715 shame on you!
Get away from that person.
Well lets keep dividing ourselves..smh
I’m surprised the word”queer” was used in the title. With as hypersensitive as people are today I’m surprised they weren’t forced to change the title or have the post taken down
She is a survivor -- and a jew -- queer is not important in this context
Agreed.
Read description
She actively asked for the Testimony to be updated that Dita was her Romantic Partner. LGBTQ people were targetted and persecuted by the Nazis. They had to wear pink triangles in camps. Historically Survivors were outright asked to erase their LGBTQ identity from their narratives and written testimonies. Since she asked for her testimony to be updated clearly it HAD importance to her, it is haughty and homophobic to. claim you know better than what was her wish.
It is because the Nazis persecuted gay people and they died in the camps too
The title of his video is just awful, trying to shoehorn this woman's testimony into a frame which fits modern LGBTQIA++ ideology is just disgustingly cynical.
Its not even worth a mention let alone a headline. This world has gone insane.
I can't believe you're attacking a minority on a page dedicated to the Holocaust, shame on you.
@@maggiej8358 shame on you!
The original video was recorded in '94 Margot has had a few relationships and came out as a lesbian before her death
@@chrishartung4702 Ok, what has that got to do with the modern ideologically driven use of the word "queer" which started on US University campuses in the early 2000s???
Lesbian not queer.
Apples/oranges.
She passed recently so clearly she was okay with the title change after asking for the Testimony description to be updated.
So maybe don’t assume.
When will there be a heterosexual month
When? Let's discuss your idea when heterosexuals are being stigmatised, discriminated against, forced to undergo conversion therapy, castrated, sent to concentration camp for being heterosexual and given death sentences for their mere being themselves like in Uganda.
Wow I guess you are a misanthrope of epic stature, congrats.
Every other month , and most laws are for heterosexuals.
Do you realize how ignorant and bigoted you just showed yourself to be? You sound like the same type of person who complains about Black History Month, sadly. And you chose to leave such a comment on this brave survivor’s testimony, displaying the very hatred and bigotry she speaks out against? Ugh.
Every month is heterosexual month times 100. It’s such a privilege that most don’t even realize it.
Elle a raison car tout l occident à tourné de dos 😂😢
Don't think she was gay just had really close person with her
Incorrect. She’s well known as a Jewish lesbian survivor.
I think you are wrong ! My own experience. But why does it even matter who is what , it is private and she is one amazing women
