It's good that some survived to tell the story. But to say Nazis, is not exactly saying it totally truthfully, instead it should be said that it was the German people that did this. God needed a witness because all of my Jewish family died in the Holocaust except my great grandmother. But she abandoned my grandpa because of her trauma and personal problems. I hear very little of what happened of the Holocaust in my family but I always listen when someone relives it.
What I learned about the Holocaust to school I had to get a medical pass because I had to go on tranquilizers because I couldn't sleep because I had a great uncle who was a prisoner of war by Germany and actually was tattooed because they thought he was just a German Jew because of his mother's maiden name was actually turned out to be a Jewish name we didn't know so we've always had a very clear understanding of the effects on the war had on the people in different camps.
I am not Jewish but met a lady from the camps who told me about what happened to her family and herself. Now with this new election coming up antisemitism is rearing it's ugly head again and the present government is going back on the USAs promise of help. My grandfather was one of the G.I.s who helped liberate Dachau at the end of WWII... He survived the horrors of the D-Day landings, fought through france and into the heart of germany itself unscathed. But he would be forever haunted by what he saw in that god forsaken place. He would wake up screaming some nights from the nightmares he'd have. When I was in high school, we took a trip to the holocaust survivors' museum. Before leaving, I stopped in the hall of remembrance and lit two votives at the niche for Dachau- one in memory of my grandfather and the other in memory of the victims. We must never forget what happened in those dark and terrible days.
I will forever be grateful to all the men who served in the fight against a totally evil regime. I am in humble awe of all the victims and all rescuers. I am so, humbly grateful for the servicemen who had to go through the types of trauma your grandfather went through. I am doing all I can to keep all these people alive in our hearts and minds. Thankyou for sharing this part of your grandfather's story. Love to your family. From New Zealand.
My grandfather was there too, I can't help but wonder if he was the G.I that fed them that spam. The only time I ever saw my grandfather cry was him retelling the stories of Dachau and how much he regrets accidentally killing a prisoner by trying to fed them some rations. I know that many soldiers did the same, but it's hard not to speculate. This video had me in tears, but I'm glad we have these 1st hand accounts documented so that we can "hopefully" prevent some atrocities last these reoccurring. Out of curiosity, was your grandfather in the 45th? Mine was in the 42nd infantry, but they landed in Marseilles and not part of d-day so I assumed he wasn't in the same battalion as my grandpa unless transfered.
G-d Bless your grandfather - who saved so many souls - including my father who was just a young boy - the words “thank you” would never be sufficient… all my best and Blessings to you and your beautiful family!
It's made worse when you realize that the bread bit was likely intentional, there's no way those guards didn't know that the people were literally starving to death would would attack each other (possibly) for extra rations. They just got off on seeing it. It blows my mind that people are living in a fairytale world where this kind of cruelty is 'impossible' to them, they've clearly never had a sociopathic boss before. Evil like this is definitely real, and history really only shows us the MOST egregious examples.
Many people. We often forget what Stalin did to his own people. What the Japanese did to the Chinese was sometimes worse than what the Germans did to the Jews. Then similar to Stalin what Miao did to his people in China. We have so many examples of how evil people can be to one another. It’s important to remember them all lest we let it be repeated anywhere.
Oh it's quite believable.. It starts small "illegal immigrants" builds up "illegal immigrants are stealing our jobs!" Adds more reasons to hate "illegal immigrants are mooching off the government, and voting", then they add violence "illegal immigrants are getting our kids hooked on drugs and killing them!!" They do it gradually, so gradually that you can't remember what it was like before, they repeat it over and over, so it feels true... As Voltaire once said...centuries before the holocaust. "If they can make you believe absurdities, they can make you commit atrocities"
Just when I think I have heard the worst of some survivors' experiences during the Holocaust. What an unbelievable and truly miraculous story of endurance and survival. I think everyone should have an opportunity to meet and listen to these people. Without the dear, sights, smells, noone can ever truly comprehend the terrible things that these people lived through. I pray that each and every one of them finds the peace that they so deserve. God bless each of them, all survivors of these events and the persecution that they had endured. May we never forget just how this all came about and how easy it would be for the world to have leaders do these same things again. God help us all.
Yes sir. And if god forbid I had seen the things this man saw it would have driven me insane. The worst thing is the world learned nothing from these events. Humans still have a never ending capacity to hate and kill each other. When the day comes when all the nukes start falling we will reap what we've sown 😢
Good comment. I am not even sure a "like" is appropriate, but I will give one. A minor correction : Ben did not only survive "prison camps", he survived living in a ghetto, and Auschwitz was a "death camp" ("vernichtungslager" in German).
I am so sorry for what you went through for the loss of all your loved ones. Thank you for sharing your story and telling the world what happened, and of the horrors that were endured by so many. May we never forget 🙏❤️
As a Gypsy, people often forget that millions of my people were killed by Germans as well. Hearing this mans story reminds me of my grandfather, who had very similar stories. He hid in the forest with his 3 year old brother for 4 days to get away from Germans. He lived in Czechoslovakia. I was born in 93 and we immigrated to Canada in 98.
People don't forget that gypsies were victims. Rather it seems like people pretends that jews were just a tiny minority of the victims. But in reality were 85-90% of the people killed in the holocaust jews, and the polish intelligentia was the second most harshest prosecuted group. No other minority came close to those two groups of victims in terms of numbers killed. And the polish jews were also the prisoners in the concentration camp that the Germans liked to beat and torture the most and being most cruel towards. Life was hell for all the other prisoners, so don't get me wrong. All I am saying is that the jews had it worst. And its much thanks to the gypsie community we can know this fact. Because the gypsies died to a lesser extent and could live and survive this war to tell this story. So the jewish community and others owe the gypsies a thanks for the help explaining what really happened inside the camps. The nazis of course wanted to kill everyone. Gypsies and jehovas witnesses included. But it was the jews that was their main priority. The war came to an end before they had a chance to finish all their work. Put some areas like the jews in the Baltics were nearly all wiped out. And the same goes for the jews in Poland were 98% of the 3 million jews were murdered by the nazis. Some types of victims put inside the concentration camps were less hated by the jews. German criminals was often used as assistants to the nazi guards to harass the other prisoners. And the nazis believed that homosexuality was a disease that they one day might be able to cure. But there of course many people who were beaten and killed among homosexuals, criminals and germans as well.
People talk about the 6M Jews killed. There were 6M others were killed gypsy, priests, nuns, pastors, mentally or physically challenged, scholars and any others they wanted.

God bless you, Mr. Lesser. In the neighborhood where I grew up, a Jewish gentleman from Poland had a gift shop a couple of doors down from my parents' deli. He also was in Auschwitz, Buchenwald, and Dachau. He knew Mengele from his job working in the kitchens at Auschwitz. How he got that job is a story in itself, but suffice it to say that like Mr. Lesser he was able to think his way into a job that helped him to survive. I would be surprised if Mr. Lesser's uncle didn't know this man. Maybe even Mr. Lesser did also. He never talked about the horrifying events from the camps, only about how he was able to fool the guards to smuggle food to some of the other inmates. I heard one survivor was in the process of being gassed and she gave birth while the others around her died by gassing. Miraculously they both survived. Instead of killing her right then and there… she managed to survive even more gas showers!
Percapitar more 'Gipsies ' were killed than Jews

This man's strength is unbelievable. What he went through and what he lost...I honestly don't think I could have done it.
Thanks for sharing this terrible but very precious story. It is very important that we never forget that this horror happened. Thanks to people like Ben Lesser, who survided all those atrocities and are now bringing us their invaluable testimony.
Oh God. I had to stop at the baby, but bless you and yours, sir. I feel such anger and sadness that this occurred, but also joy that you survived and prospered.
Knowing that such sadistic atrocities were perpetrated against life loving Jews, it really pisses me off how the people of color in America whine and bitch about how they are currently treated

It's happening right now in Palestine; in Russian-held Ukraine, at the US Border with Immigrants - happens everyday.
@@robertsaget6918US immigrates? Those beans need to enter legally. You must come from an inbred family being tha special
@@robertsaget6918Gaza attacked Israel and the Jewish people retaliated. They Jewish people will NEVER let another holocaust happen again. Hamas already openly admitted that they will not stop until the Jewish people are wiped out.
Dear Man, Thank you for witnessing. It is absolutely true. We must never forget. My heart breaks for yours. You have taken on a tremendous responsibility to keep memory alive. Prayerfully, your sharing will reach the young ones of today. Sweet hug. God bless you,Sir
Watching this while feeding my toddler made me burst into tears... I can't believe imagine what these people went through.. RIP to all the victims.
And, during all of this unimaginable suffering, he was just a teen, a child. Hats off to your stunning courage and bravery, sir!
Thank you for sharing your story. It's heavy, but important to learn from history. You survived horrors no living being should experience. Never forget. NEVER AGAIN. We will not allow this to happen again.
Also, you were so lucky to understand that the Angel of Death was testing you. Just hearing his name makes my spine shiver, and I've only read/heard the stories
I listened Mr Lesser. I will never forget your story. I will tell others to listen to your story and together everyone who listens will carry in their heart your story so we don’t forget. God bless your soul.
What a great and inspiring individual. I will never be able to comprehend what he had to endure and live through. His memories will unfortunately haunt him until the day he passes on.

GOD BLESS THIS MAN! The bravery, the courage, the sacrifice, the fortitude and selflessness this man possessed as a 15 year old boy, to face and endure such abhorrent atrocities is extremely heartbreaking!!! Mr. Lesser is exactly right with his reasoning as to why God spared him. The world NEEDS to hear these stories. Because when you forget about the past, history will be repeated!
That is one of the most compelling stories about surviving the Holocaust I've ever heard!
Thank you so much Mr Lesser!
It's shocking to hear him tell his story of the atrocities, the murders, the unbelievable evil surrounding him every day, without any hate in his voice.
To be that astute at his age is beyond imagination.
I will tell your story, I will forward this interview to everyone I know.
'God needed me to survive to be a witness'.
Strong words.
We will never forget.
Everyone of us has the responsibility to prevent this from ever happening again!
Have a blessed and forfilled life, Mr Lesser xxx
This is true horror, what they did to that baby broke my heart. And Hitler couldn't take his punishment like a man, took the easy way out, absolutely heart breaking
He didn't want to end up like his hero Mussolini, strung up in a public square beside his mistress
@yankeecitygirl they were either shot or hanged.
According to the released FBI Documents, He survived and lived until 1982.

BS there were no released FBI documents
"I travel to keep the world from having amnesia"
That hits so hard, because there will be a point where enough time passes that the events of the holocaust will feel like some distant tragedy that isn't so widely known.
It's so important to keep this memory alive, in honor of the victims.
Because most of it is exaggerated. Hence why there are government laws protecting it.
@epicphailure88 It's because sentiments like yours obscures just how severe it was and it's a disservice to humanity to even slightly shy away from the horrors in its entirety.
@@epicphailure88how do you know that? Do you have family who suffered through this period? Have you seen the auschwitz camps yourself?

Thanks for interviewing him and giving him a chance to speak!! We are about to lose that generations experiences first hand so this is so important
Thank you so much for sharing your story, im so sorry for everything that happened to you and i could never imagine living through such a heart wrenching experience. May you live your life peacefully where ever you are.

This poor man, the horrors he has lived through. Hopefully the telling of his stories brings him peace. Telling these truth helps in preventing it from happening again.
My heart is just breaking into so many pieces.... makes me realize how good we have it today, I mean there's still evil everywhere but I cant imagine going through what this man and others have gone through...💔😞
Wow, this is worse than anything I imagined it could be. The amount of things that had to go right for him to survive is astounding.
War is Hell, to survive takes super human skills and a total revamp of your mental acuity. It's not for the front of heart. You must become worse than your enemy to overcome adversity. Your enemy must recognize that they have few options. Losing is not an option. Semper Fi.
Feint not front.
It's insane and whenever things like this happens noone sees it's coming and noone is prepared. That's all conflicts past and future.

The evil that makes these people want more and hurt us like Biden has with the COVID virus, and please don't tell me he had nothing to do with it because I have sale pitch for you if you don't believe. They want to get rid of the older folks because there's wisdom there & the young should NOT BE TOLD to be manageable and easily fooled, tricked think, think about it. This is a fight about good and evil my dear it's in the bible, the Jewish people have survived because they follow God's menu on what to eat and what NOT to eat, read up it's scary but God chose a tough, but wise and smart and strong people to carry this cross of hatred. Pray for all Jewish people, for Israel.
