I have not been able to go see my family in the Philippines since I was a baby. And because my mother passed shortly after we moved here I grew up without being close to my Filipino family. My father, who is American, learned some of my mother’s recipes , and taught them to me. So the food is most special to me and makes me feel closer to them. One day we will be able to afford to see them in person, not just on the phone! And we will celebrate and eat the best food together!
