    Outer Banks, North Carolina, one of my favorite areas on the East Coast.
    However, I don’t think you could get me to live there.
    A couple of ships that I sailed on use to pull into Morehead City, NC.
    I remember those little ferry boats!
    Thanks Marc!

    My ohh my, I would be in full freak out mode if I was driving in the dark with water breaching and flooding. Carolinas are prone to significant flooding so if I ever went to outer banks, significant amount of research would have to be made on my part in light of weather patterns and all that.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  Год назад

      It wasn't that much of a biggie. Just take it slow and keep an eye out. However, some of those NPS campgrounds are very susceptible to flooding, most notably Frisco.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  Год назад

      That lighthouse climb was really rather trivial compared to most hikes, Suzane. We didn't want to pass up the opportunity to see one from the inside, as well as get a bird's eye view of the area -- especially because it's so flat out there, and because we can't launch our drone in a National Seashore.

    Great job showing the beauty of OBX. I will be going to Ocracoke Island for a week, leaving Sunday. Since I live on southern coastal NC, we will be taking the Cedar Island Ferry. So, I'll be interested to see your video of that area. While on Ocracoke, we always take the Hatteras Ferry to spend some time on that portion of the Outer Banks. I can't recall a time that I've been on Hwy 12 that I haven't had to deal with over wash at some portion. Be sure and give your vehicle a good bath. Thanks for sharing. Safe travels.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  Год назад +1

      Thank you Shelley, and have a great time! Although the tease said "Cedar Island" I was speaking of the area more broadly -- we actually stayed right on the water on private property in Davis, so we renamed next week's episode "Down East". And oh yeah, everything got a thorough hose-down after this week.

    • @shelleywalker6225
      @shelleywalker6225 Год назад +1

      @@GrandAdventure, yes, I understand. Cedar Island, Down East, Davis ....to me, it's all "out there" and I figured you were talking about "that area". Did you get to do any fishing while you were out there? Safe travels.

      @@shelleywalker6225 we did not, unfortunately. Our spot in Davis would've been perfect to get the kayak out onto Core Sound and that was the plan, but as you'll see we had to pack up quickly and run to avoid the surge from Ian.

      @GrandAdventure  Год назад +1

      In that case, Bert, put OBX on your list! Keep an eye on when the reservation window opens for the NPS campsites within the National Seashore. If you don't mind being marooned on an island with few provisions available, we loved the Okracoke Campground. Otherwise, the second nicest is where we were in this episode: Oregon Inlet Campground, which is the only one with W/E sites. You can still ferry to Okracoke from there, but you also have access to supplies in Nags Head as well as easy access to the Bodie Island and Hatteras lighthouses, Kitty Hawk, Roanoke Island, etc. Beware the back loops of the Frisco Campground, for we've heard (and the NPS acknowledges) that those loops frequently flood.

      Glad you enjoyed it Gord, thank you! We can definitely recommend a week here.
