SP9010 Maybach MD870 engine start, May 29, 2022

This engine was removed from the chassis in May of 2018, rebuilt by the Pacific Locomotive Assoc.,and reinstalled in May of 2021. After that we spend a great deal of time dealing with loss of working time during Covid and valve timing issues that seem to have originated in 1966 when the engine was rebuilt by the Southern Pacific. Today, we successfully started the engine and were very pleased with the way it ran. Next to come will be servicing and re-installation of the 2 Maybach turbochargers and their after-coolers.
