  • If you're dissatisfied with your drawing progress, particularly if you fell you are in a rut with it all, and want to see a huge shake up and growth in your creative abilities, in my experience there is nothing more effective you can do than this. And the more resistant you feel to doing this, chances are the more beneficial it will be if you persevere. The benefit to my drawing was far reaching beyond the ways I had hoped. This was the source of all my understanding of the drawing technique and process that I teach in my videos. And it totally killed my perfectionism issues, quickly and painlessly. You must hear all these points before you dismiss the possibilities for your drawing.

It's a great practice ❤ but you already have huge drawing background behind! Newcomers should never forget about this and use different methods in learning and practice!

I think wee should start learning the way we want to draw at the end. I don't believe pencil is an easy lead in to pen. I think they are two different media each with their own strengths and weaknesses.

@@stephentraversart I mean there are many ways to draw in ink. With pencil underdrawing or without. But know how to use pencil also is a good help in knowing a wide range of different media. No need to lock yourself in the only technique and refuse others.

Thank you so much 😀. But I think you should visit some art galleries. Much appreciated

You're the reason I started drawing directly in ink most of the time and, as a beginner, I honestly think it helped me relax and be comfortable with mistakes.
I fell in love with the medium and I'm thankful you gave me the push to give it a try, instead of "waiting to be ready"
    Happy drawing!

I totally agree. I have been learning from a Peter Han Dynamic Sketching course where you can only use pens.

Because you can't erase. The best drawing advice I ever got was draw with a marker, because you can't erase your mistakes and have to own them.

Ive been doing this for a bit more than half a year every day with you as warmup befor starting illustrations; and as an experienced artist I agree, doing excersizes in ink daily has been one of the most tremendously helpfull things in improving all parts of my other work. The only other thing close to the returns for time spend were things like drawabox.

I am working on exactly the kind of improvement you're talking about. I'll be doing some pen drawing (no pencil) to improve some of these very same aspects which brings me to a quick question - I've got some pens but I'm a little stuck on what paper (bound, hopefully) works well and fits a budget?

I use separate sheets myself, as it removes the pressure of a book. Whatever is a good surface for the pen you want to use and is affordable enough to not worry about wasting’ if the drawing doesn’t turn out. We don’t want to be tempted to compromise our drawing to ‘protect’ the paper. I use a 210 gsm drawing cartridge 😀

Thank you very much for your videos. Were those initial pencil drawings fixed with some sort of fixant? Thanks in advance
