He has the dazzling technique and imaginative programming of Virgil Fox coupled with the modesty and exquisite taste of a congenial English virtuoso. What a winning combination!
It never ceases to amaze me the number of wonderful cathedrals and churches you have in the British Isles nor the number of truly amazing pipe organs which fill those cathedrals with such magnificent refrains. In the US, we have churches but we tend to discard them and go for newer building and do the same for our pipe organs in favor of the "newer" mechanical, electronic ones. The difference in the sound even at home with a good set of speakers as opposed to sitting in one of our churches and listening is like looking at pictures of fresh baked bread in a magazine versus being in the kitchen as it is cooking. For the bread, it is all about the smell. For the Scott Brothers, it is all about the sound. Give me the sound any day over the "latest technology". There is NO ACCOUNTING for what the two of you can do with a piece of musical history!
I have a tendency to close my eyes when listening. Normally that's no problem, but with these Scott Brothers videos it IS a problem because there's so much worth seeing.
Can't believe I just found this Great ARTIST!!! What he did, performing, arranging, narrations, are so IMPRESSIVE!!! All his concerts and arrangements are so precious. He motivates me for exploring more in this instrument!!
Jonathan, as always, what a joy it is to hear you play! I have become such a fan of Tom’s compositions; he certainly does make you work hard! Thank you both for your kind generosity in doing all of these concerts.
Another outstanding concert. Not only do you possess an exceptional talent performing and arranging music for organ, but the enthusiastic way with which you explain the pieces you are about to play is really contagious. You make us hearing your music with a smile! A word must also be said about your brother. His talent for showing us the great cathedrals where you are playing, making us appreciate both their magnitude and their small details (like here the carved misericordes) make the music even more enjoyable. May we hope that you will introduce him to us in one of your concert so that we may discover which other genius is behind the camera?
playing thrilling as always; as is the videography,,, and in this recital I'm absolutely fascinated with the unbelievably mixed pedigree of the organ. So often these "hybrids" really are a hotch potch,... this one sounds superb. Speaks volumes for the skills and artistry of generations of organ builders and voicers that have lovingly worked on it.
Once again, a superb concert. I am always thrilled to see a new broadcast from my favorite organist. Jonathon is really more than an organist, he is a grandmaster at the keyboard. His personality shines through as he introduces each piece with a bit of history. I feel he is talking directly to me on an one-on-one basis. I am always astonished at how quickly his fingers and feet navigate the various keyboards. On my best days when I played publicly, I didn't have the flexibility Jonathon exhibits. A mega talented gentlemen who brings the classical music to many in a way only he can do. Tom does a fabulous job with his tour of the various churches. He certainly does have the "eye" and it's much appreciated. I notice someone has sent belated birthday greetings. Whichever of you celebrated please add me to the list of many well-wishers. Thank you both for bringing these wonderful concerts to your many fans. We love you. Be safe and stay well until we meet again.
Thank you Tom for showing us the beauty of the church and all its visual art work. What a great way of sharing this with us who cannot be there to see it for ourselves! Beautifully integrated with the views of Jonathan's playing. And super sound recording. Thank you both for bringing us this feast for eye and ear!
I'm gladly looking forward to this new concert by Jonathan and Tom, with another interesting program! Reminders are set! Thank you, Scott Brothers for another lovely Saturday concert! 💕🎹🎵😊🎈🌞
Love your playing and commentary. Long years ago mom tried to teach me to play. All my years of practicing was to no avail. It was like teaching a rock to swim. Now at 75 both my kids play because I made them practice.
Another great evening: not just the music, but the commentary. I always like learning from experts, and coming away knowing more than I knew at the beginning.
Many thanks for this superb recital, Jonathan and Tom. 👍👏❤️ I was happy to hear you say that the Sixth Widor Organ Symphony was your favorite - it's mine, as well; and one I've enjoyed performing. Such beautiful variety in the various movements. All this organ really needs is a great, big 32' Contre-Bombarde in the Pedal division. 💥 Thank you, again, for the splendid recital (plus interesting commentary), wonderful videography and excellent sound-recording. You are both WORLD TREASURES !
Deeply touched by "Bist Du bei mir". The piece by Tom would be great for an enthronement, so gracefully and solemnly. Thanks again for a wonderful evening. 💕 0:13 Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868) arr. J. Scott Overture to The Barber of Seville 11:55 Georg Friedrich Händel (1685-1759) arr. J. Scott Passacaglia (Suite No. 7 in G Minor HWV 432) 22:03 Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel (1690-1749)/JS Bach arr. J. Scott Bist du bei mir (Diomedes/BWV 508) 29:43 Théodore Dubois (1837-1924) Toccata in G (Douze pièces pour orgue) 38:32 Tom Scott Theme & Variations (2019) 45:48 Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) arr. J. Scott Adagio (Clarinet Concerto in A Major K.622) 55:53 Charles-Marie Widor (1844-1937) Finale (Symphony No. 6 in g minor Op. 42, No. 2)
Another superb recital; the arrangement of the Mozart is wonderful! I liked the story of the misspelling of Dubois' name; in like manner, I am dubious of ever being able to play the Dubois' piece!!
I greatly enjoyed your Organ Concert Sir. Beautiful music! And you are a superb player. I salute you! And all the authors of some of the greatest music in the world. From Beautiful Downtown Oracle Arizona, U S A.
You both never disappoint, so enjoyed the whole concert .Many thanks for all the planning and prep that must go into the concert as well, bless you both .
Bravotissimoconfuoco!!!! As a clarinettist, I was smitten my the Mozart. But overall, musicianship and virtuosity at exceedingly high level. You bring organ to the masses. A huge gift and a tremendous talent. Amazing videos (no surprise there, made by another very fine artist and musician).
I’m looking forward to another great evening concert with my favorite organist. Still waiting for the days when we can resume live attendance. Best wishes Jonathan and Tom
Outstanding recital! Loved the rhythm & progression of the Handel, the dance inspiration of Tom's composition, and the melodies in the Bach & Mozart are so moving. What a wonderful instrument & church. Thank you both for another great history lesson with music! ❤❤💐💐🎹🎶
Excelente inicio de mes Gracias a los brillantes y prodigiosos hermanos Scott. Felicidades. Un saludo y lo mejor para quienes disfrutan sus interpretaciones.( Juventino Flores, Córdoba, Veracruz, MÉXICO).
amazing! I found out the other day that the company Wurlitzer is a Cincinnati, ohio based company, I also spun off a piano making company called Baldwin. blew my mind
Interesting that you have to use a recorder board in a modern organ with electric stop controls. Nice performance. The organ sounds lovely as well as powerful. The Dubois was nice - bouncy. The piece by Tom seems to be variations on a theme designed to show of the stops and range of dynamics in the organ.
Once again an extremely imaginative concert a wonderful enlivened performance Jonathan showing the instruments full potential. Well done Tom for presentation, thank you for once again sharing your extraordinary musical talent and belated birthday greetings👏👏👏
It's Sunday, 5-2-21, and I'm still watching this over and over, still giggling about the cat playing with Rossini's scenery, the singer falling through the trap door, and the transformation of Dubois into Dubious! LOL! 🤣 In short, everything was gorgeous - selections, playing, church, video, et al. I've been on a Widor adventure recently. I never new that the Toccata was from a symphony for solo organ until now, or that he wrote 10 (!!!) of those, plus 3 symphonies for organ and orchestra! How heavenly! I've listened to the 5th & 6th complete, and Jonathan, you can play a full Widor symphony for us ANY time you choose! Dubois' Toccata is a highly spirited and lovely piece, but I suspect he stole an idea or two from Widor! I'm still fascinated by the carvings, and looking up "misericord", discovered that it was a widespread practice to carve fanciful characters and pictures into them back in the day. One of the example images in my search was from St. Laurence! You keep springing composers on me whom I never heard of before (or forgot). This time it's Stolzel. This piece is exquisitely beautiful, my favorite piece from this concert, played with so much expression and feeling. I bet writing out the music by hand helps you to memorize it as well. I enjoyed the piece from Mozart's clarinet concerto. I love clarinets. Tom's Theme and Variations is charming, delightful, and so reminiscent of the Terpsichore dances and music of that era. Great job, Tom! You can write music in just about any style, it seems. I've heard a variety of your pieces now, all masterful! Thanks again for a superb concert, with a wonderful variety of selections, beautifully played, with fascinating commentary, a gorgeous organ, spectacular church, and beautiful filming! My thanks got cut off at the end of the chat (again), so here it is. Stay well and safe, Jonathan and Tom, and I'll look forward happily to your next concert.
This Mozart Adagio always leaves me feeling good about everything in my life - if that makes sense. Tom should get generous payments from Tourist Offices in all the concert venue areas for his detailed portrayal of beautiful features. Today he’s shown us just how glorious it is in St Laurence’s, Ludlow. Many thanks once again to you both.
The programme for this concert was put together brilliantly!! Tom’s piece is my favourite of his compositions and it was great to hear it played on this fantastic instrument. Although I love the Widor and the Dubois, the highlight for me was the Mozart - it was perfection. 💜 Thank you for a wonderful concert.
As always a wonderful concert. I moved to a part of the world where there are hardly organs, let alone concert organists. So being able to get such beautiful concerts on youtube is really a joy, especially as the pipe organ is my favourite instrument. Love it that Jonathan presents each piece and gives some additional information! Makes the piece so much more interesting. Hope you can soon start live concerts again, but do hope that you will keep publishing on you tube and not forget your worldwide audience, who cannot join you physically. Tom has become a master in recording concerts and the beautiful churches. Many thanks to you both! One small remark: bist du bei mir, does not translate to 'when I am with you', but rather 'when you are with me' and if you look at the further text, it is indeed not for a walk in the park.
Thank you. Great concert. Perhaps you could include more of Tom's music in other concerts. What about a little trumpet voluntary as as encore in the next one.

Oh this is fantastic! I’ve just currently started looking for the best (most original) pipe organ in Scotland (hopefully Edinburgh, closer) as I’ve just come for a holiday from Australia where proper original tuned instruments (432, 528, etc) but it’s on my bucket list. If anyone can help an old guy who wants to feel uplifted while here .. and feel what music was once like. Healing. Great video and work! Virtuoso. :)

Great Setlist, but I am also curious about Tom's themes & variations. I remember the piece "Sesquialtera" which he wrote for Jonathan many years ago, he - Jonathan - performed it in Kempen/ Germany. See you guys on Saturday. 😘👋
Sei un extraterrestre!!😱😱 awesome...👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏perfect performance
Enjoying it again
Your concerts are always beautiful, Jonathan! 😍🥰😘

Once again Jonathon. Wonderful as usual. Thank you so much. Linda
45:52 Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) arr. J. Scott

Outstanding, as always.
That movement from the Mozart Clarinet Concerto was sublime.
Many thanks.
Thank you gentlemen. Your efforts feed my soul.

@@James_Bowie This also is true. Most of his presentations have been his arrangements and he does an excellent job. Extremely talented man.

I do like the quick musical quotes as part of the introductions - I find they help inform my listening, so more would be welcome.
So talented a pleasure to listen to.

Truly wonderful, thanks to Ludlow & Jonathan and Tom for a superb music and scenic video once again.
Oh WOW. That was fantastic as always. Mozart's Adagio brought me to tears. Thank you.
Love your playing and commentary. Long years ago mom tried to teach me to play. All my years of practicing was to no avail. It was like teaching a rock to swim. Now at 75 both my kids play because I made them practice.
Beautiful registrations that show the incredible resources of this instrument. Dazzling footwork, too!

If you like this organ you should also check out the 1866 Gray & Davison / 2005 Nicholson organ in St. Mary's Priory Church, Usk, Gwent.
Now listening live from Chicago, USA. That "Barber of Seville" was great. Looking forward to the rest!

Bravo!
From Bromyard in Herefordshire.
Best wish from George
Enjoying the concert as always 🙂
Thanks RUclips..... thanks.
You never fail to amaze me Jonathan! Brilliant as always..
Thank you. Great concert. Perhaps you could include more of Tom's music in other concerts. What about a little trumpet voluntary as as encore in the next one.
Beautiful concert, very stirring.
The ashes of the great poet A.E. Housman are buried in the St Laurence churchyard and a cherry tree planted at the site. I thought of him when listening to Bist du bei mir by Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel/JS Bach.
If here, where clover whitens
The dead man's knoll, you pass,
And no tall flower to meet you
Starts in the trefoiled grass,
Halt by the headstone naming
The heart no longer stirred,
And say the lad that loved you
Was one that kept his word.
Wundervoll👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Excellence!
Its wonderful!!! Thank you from Ecuador!

@Jonathan, Mr Dubious made me fall around laughing! 🤣😂🤣😂
I think it comes from your typists using spellchecker - without checking proper names.
No complaints from me - it’s wonderful that Mr Dubious first saw the light of day on your channel.
💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
A great organ, an acquaintance made a recording on that organ, many years ago
If you want to hear the Mozart played on a "proper" basset clarinet, look for L'Oiseau Lyre 414 339-2 (published by Decca in 1986): Antony Pay, Academy of Ancient Music conducted by Christopher Hogwood. You get the Oboe Concerto, K 314 as well.
Lots of Anna Magdalenas queuing up to score for Jonathan? 😃💕💕😃
