- Why is this movie called "COCO"?? The name of the old lady who's cosplaying as a raisin and was in the movie for a total of 5 minutes? Nahhhh fam. This movie should be named after a long list of people before Coco...like the main character Miguel, or the great great great great great great great great great grandfather Hector, or the ball sack skin dog Sacko, or the giant prehistoric flying panther Pepita (imo a silly name for a murder cat, but whatever)...or even the grandmother who's only line in the movie stuck on repeat is "NO MUSIC". She means well, if you ignore the blatant bigotry towards musicians and her child labor shoe making sweat shop and her abusive destruction of her grandson's homemade guitar....you know what, lets not name the movie after her. Think of a better name in the comments down below (look at that, i get to be creative without even thinking of a new title myself and I get to take all the credit for your answers...thnx luv u)

Okay so personal story time about this movie: This movie came out the same year my grandfather died. My Spanish class went to see this the day before Thanksgiving and when Miguel started singing Remember Me I remember bursting out into tears because it hit too close to home.
Same happened to me! My grandma died and 3 days later this movie came out and I went to watch it with my nephew to change my mood and coco's design looked too much like my grandma so it destroyed me even more! I still cry looking at coco
oh my god i hope everythings better now and i hope youre doing ok
thats so heartbreaking
@@mewhodoesntgiveasht3353 awwwwwww
Same here, my grandma died one month before this movie and when I saw it with my family I think we cried the whole movie
Coco remembering her dad after Miguel plays the song gets me every single time; the way her whole face lights up and she has this childlike wonder about her makes me so emotional xd
He’s a boy lol
Oh nvm I read it wrong 💀💀💀

Same, it never fails to make me cry!
yessssssssssssssssssss
8:11 not sure if anyone clarified this already but the area in the attic that miguel had for de la cruz isn’t weird or creepy cause it’s supposed to be an ofrenda because he passed away so that’s why it includes the flowers, action figure, poster, etc. 👍
Aaaa I loved this video!!! As for some context over the dog cause it was kinda funny to see you confused about it: that dog breed is called “Xoloitzcuintle” and yup, it doesn’t have any hair. It’s believed in Mexican culture that xoloitzcuintle’s are the only animals who can go across worlds between the living and the dead and that’s why the dog was with Miguel all the time😄😄.
Alsoo!! That Altar that Miguel had is normal in mexican culture for Day of the Dead. We normally set up altars for a bunch of people or only one person and we place items there that have to do with them, their favorite food, their favorite clothes or whatever, it’s fun.
NO WAY, CORY GUESSED THE WHOLE MOVIE WHEN HE SAID THAT HECTOR IS MIGUEL’S GRANDPA🤣🤣🤣
20:00 The song is about an ugly, old woman, but the singer is saying that he would be lucky to be with her, meaning that he sees her as beautiful the way she is :)
omg coco is my favorite movie you guys make my day
Him thinking having photos of your faves are weird should be introduced to the K-pop industry where tha artists are called idols and trained for years to be perfect literally perfect in every way so a lot of fans think of them that way💀
Telling us y’all turned the movie into a drinking game like y’all haven’t been finding excuses every video… we already know 😂
The dog's breed is a Cholotzcuincle and is a prehispanic breed, to have a dog like that is around $600-$800 dlls
loving it already 👏👏
La Llorana is a legend about the Weeping Woman (llorar meaning to cry)
Echopark on a Bender and no response from their plug react to the in-flight movie from Burbank to Las Vegas of 'Coco'
Love y'all! Can you watch The Road to El Dorado next ? U would love Chel 😏
I’m currently taking Spanish and “De Delos muertos” is Day of the Dead. A Chorizo is A Sausage. 35:54 It was Caught in 4K you’re going to jail.
3:06 Oh my god, and he is called Dante, like Dante's inferno ;-; Probably a coincidence, but the coincidence is there
I've been binge-watching y'all for a while now, great content! Could you guys react to the Nickelodeon movie 'Rags'? I would love to see your reactions to it.
“Is he Ernesto secretly” how did you just guess that nick what
tear jerking
Llorona means weeping woman
Yesss I've been wanting
Imelda has a streak of grey in her hair so she probably died in her 50's or 60's.
So the tradition I think you are talking about reminds me of something I saw in a video a long time ago. I can't tell you where they do it but in certain cultures they will bring their dead relatives bodies out of the tomb once a year and similar to day of the dead they make all their favorite things in celebration of when they were alive. They will even dress them up. It's weird as hell but in an endearing yet morbid sort of way.
Hector moans when he fades the glow up moan
That dog is a Xolo, is a mexican dog breed
Why were you using an Italian accent? 😂
I'm never looking at chorizo the same way again. XD

As a Hispanic person, I would’ve loved to have been commenting on this movie with them. Mostly to correct them but also cause this movie slaps
i was thinking that the whole reaction too honestly😂 i'm mexican
same 😂
I'm Mexican, and i'm with you on correcting them
yeah. im white but even just from spanish class, i had teachers from central/latin american countries and i can point out some if the more obvious ones. the nuances ones i would question but wouldn’t have a proper correction for
Yes!!! When they called the Papel picado “napkins” I was about to cry
Those "napkins" at the beginning of the movie are actually Papel Picado lol. They are just cut up paper that is hung up for decoration😌
Okay some of the answers to your questions or doubts:
Papel picado is a decoration made out of paper, it's not a napkin.
Dante is a xolo dog, a mexican dog with a thousand years of existence and it has no hair and in mexica culture it's a guardian and guide to the souls in the underworld.
The Orange bridge si maade out of petals. Cempasúchil is the name of the flower. It's one of the many things used in the ritual and symbolizes the warmth and color of the sun, it's a beacon.
The pit of water comes from the Mayan culture an it's a *senote* a sinkhole full of water sometimes connected to an underground river. They believe senotes where doors to the underworld.
Mama Coco or mamá it's a title too. Instead of calling her grandmother, great-grand mother it's just mamá. Symbolizes that she is your elder in a specific way and also makes it less impersonal, if that makes sense. It's like making them par of your core family, not just siblings and mom or dad. Oh and mom, o mamá without a name, it's for mother.
La llorona, it's a legend and a song but not about the same. And that it's too long to punt here.
And in lack of photos always go to the sources. Yes the bones. The sugar skulls are what conquistadores where comfortable with. But in some places they still do the original ritual.
Hector didn’t leave against his will, he made the willing choice to leave. Even if he tried to come back after the fact, the damage is done. He demonstrated at that moment that he was willing to give up his family and responsibility at a whim. I think mama Imelda is valid on how she is feeling. At the end of the day, she had to raise coco alone.
Side note: your Spanish accent is horrible lol sound like an italian accent 😅 fun reaction tho
I'm pretty sure Hector originally left to go on a tour, eventually planning to return. But still Imelda's stance was valid, she really did think the love of her life dingdong ditched her and her daughter
No he was only touring😂
MF HE WAS TOURING SO THEY WOULD GET MONEY
@@jwhite-1471 But Imelda didn't know that. As far as she knew, he left and never came back. She didn't know he had died and didn't know he was trying to come home. Even in the afterlife, she likely didn't give him chance to speak to her - and he probably didn't try to speak to her, either, because of guilt. Even in the afterlife she wouldn't know he died that young, she probably thought he lived a long life away from his family. What Nick & Cory are forgetting here is that Hector didn't know he'd been poisoned. Hector thought he got food poisoning. So as far as Hector knew he left his family and died through bad luck and left Imelda to raise Coco alone.
In this scenario, the song La Llorona is actually based off of a tragic love story between a soldier and his wife. The soldier was drafted to war. They both knew he wasn't coming back and as a result, his wife was crying. The soldier gave his wife one last dance and he playfully called her "Llorona" as in "crybaby". The song is also a reference to the fact that Hector left with Ernesto and never came back
That is somehow both so sweet and sad at the same time. I love it.
When this movie came out I watched it with my Grandmother who had dementia but she remembered every word of remember me. She was a singer and I’m a singer so it was huge thing for us to able to bind over that. My uncle in law took his kids to see this movie to get them used to the idea of death because he had less that a year to live (he was in his 40s). It did help the younger kids get their heads around it. So this movie had a huge impact on my life and my families lives.
cory, you're just frickin shaming every dog in Mexico. That's how every dog looks like in Mexico lol
I know💀😂
And literally every where else in Latin America
Wtf, noooo Dante is a different breed of dog
@@dudekul1509 we know, i think he is talking about street dogs. That’s what i meant too😂 i love dogs btw
41:07 Pepita was Imelda's cat when Imelda was alive, in her true form she's the spirit guide representing Imelda - a mother, the provider of her family, the leader of the family, the one who holds everything together, strong and determined.
I’m Mexican and I live on the place Disney was inspired to make coco and believe me is an honor to see people sharing our culture ❤️
it warms my heart seeing other people discover our beautiful culture ❤
This movie hits me so diffrent cause I lost my grandma to dementia and alzheimers. And yes Coco has it.
First of all, Hector himself did not know that he was murdered. He thought it was food poisoning. So he couldn't have told Imelda, if she had even given him any chance to talk-- which she didn't _"(How many times must I turn you away?"_ she asks).
Secondly, yes he was trying to come back and he was killed, but he did choose to walk out the door in the first place. That hurt her deeply. That was what she could not forgive right away- even if he changed his mind afterwards.
I don't know if someone mention it yet, but the name of the movie was going to be "Día de los Muertos", but Disney wanted to have the rights of the holiday's name, so they had a pretty big scandal. Later, when the movie artists came to Mexico to investigate the country and the holiday, they realized a lot of grandmas are called Coco (nickname of Socorro... And I can verified it because it's my case also XD, by 2). And because she's an important character in this story, the one all of this revolved around, they decided to named the movie "Coco".
Oh, really ? I didn't know that. I remember reading on Internet, Miguel's little sister was named Socorro.
It's funny because in France, we have a movie called " Coco " but it's a comedy
@@a.g.demada5263 oh, I didn't know that! It's a nice touch!
This movie destroys me every time I watch it, it came out 3 days after my grandma died and coco's design looks so much like her specially at the end were she talks and I just cry by seeing it(I'm literally crying my eyes out right now)
P.s: I love the amount of hatred Cory has for Dante
I literally just came from visiting my papa in the nursing home and he didn’t know who I was tonight, it’s been like that more days than not lately. Seeing you guys always brighten my day thank you I needed this ❤
Fun fact, I believe the 'scary water dungeon thing' is based on Cenotes which naturally occur very commonly in certain parts of Mexico. In some of them long ago, they were also used for sacrificial offerings. They are really cool and I got to visit one in the Yucatan
La llorona is an old folks tale in mexico about a woman who drowned her kids, and later she regretted it and some people hear her crying about her kids, and she steals children or something like that, it really scared me as a kid
We hear about it in Chile too - mostly in relation to the Mapuche people's lore where she's called La Pucullén and is visible to those close to death and will lure you to die/unalive yourself, so I knew the story growing up in the U.S. One night when I was a very young teenager, my mom and I were driving through a piece of our city with no streetlights and it was about 1AM and we saw the woman in white in the distance. I gasped, clutched my mom's arm, and begged her to run the woman over or we would die and omg...it was just some lady walking her dog in a white robe at 1AM. Still weird but glad we didn't run her over lmaooo I will never forget the fear that struck my heart.
I think one commenter said it was about a soldier getting drafted and him and his wife both knew he wasn't coming back. She cried and he offered her one last dance and called her his "crybaby" aka "Llorona".
And they did that in the movie because Hector also never came back.
My day has sucked so far so I really needed this :) love you guys!!
The lady who inspired mama coco actually just passed away at 109 on October 16. Btw… love the full 5 min conversation about Ed gein’ing family members 😂😂😂 creepy as hell.
Hey guys!!! The first 2 times I watched this movie I SOBBED!! I liked how Cory guessed that Hector was Miguel's real ancestor...lol I'm glad you liked enjoyed it!!! As a side note.... when you continue the scary movies can you do the Insidious trilogy? Thanks 😉
ONE THING... Hector didn't explain to Imelda that he was murdered because... he didn't know! Even he thought for a while that he just died while he was out doing music with De la Cruz, which his wife was kind of rightfully pissed about lol
To help you guys out, La Llorona is the "Weeping Woman" in Spanish folklore. She becomes a haunting spirit after the death of her kids. Might be why they referred to it in the movie but idk.
Btw those “doilies” at the beginning are actually called papel picado It’s usually thin plastic decorations draped between buildings and such. You can put any decoration on it. For my quince my cousin made some for me with my name on it to drape in the hall.
this is exactly what i needed today ❤
I can't believe I'm early early
Same
I love y'all thanks for the video!!!! makes my day way better every time
We got you fam :)
@@NickandCory
Hi guys! I love your videos, and I am from México, the dog may seem weird to y´all because it´s a Xoloitzcuintli! Sometimes known as the Mexican Hairless dog, the Xoloitzcuintli, gets its name from two words in the language of the Aztecs: Xolotl, the god of lightning and death, and itzcuintli, dog. The raze is a 3,000-year-old, the ancient Aztec dog of the gods :) PS: I love how Nick Pronounced ¨Día de Los muertos¨ and Cory ¨La Policia!¨ pretty well!
I love these comments. I know that Nick and Cory are definitely learning a lot about this culture from everyone’s wonderful contribution of knowledge.
the intro is told in papel picado, (i think its traduction can be paper cuter? is paper that has art cut in it) is a pretty traditional thing to put on dia de muertos, the dog is a xoloescuencle, a race of dogs that does not have fur, and is original form méxico, old traditions sais that they could guide the dead to the living and back
Mexican here: "That's child labor- BUT i's ok in México"
KJASGHDKJASHJSHJAJHAJA
NO. It happens, but absolutely NO
I’m a simple person. I see Nick and Cory , I click.
Wow you really went overboard with the dog hate, didn't you? Stopped being funny after the first time, tbh. Dante is supposed to be a pretty cool hairless breed of dog which is found in Mexico, kind of like hairless cats. They're called Xoloitzcuintle. I personally think it's awesome that they're representing such a rare breed in a kid's movie.
They're that rare ?
@@a.g.demada5263 judging by their reaction, I would have to say they are
@@bidishah yeah, after all, some animals exist only in one country
I'm just in love with the way Nick got really into the movie and very emotional. So cute!!!!!!
I died when Nick asked if he could pour sake in his eyes 😂😂 even tough its an emotional movie this video was hilarious 👌😁 (i also just love how none of the accent you did were close to be mexican haha 😂)
Dante is a Mexican dog breed, the xolo, the shpynx of dogs but they sometimes have patches of white or black fur
Another thing about Ernesto is that he’s too paranoid and insecure about his fame . His pride already made him dumb enough to put his secret success to stardom in a movie, and then trying to kill Miguel twice bc he felt like a child could jeopardize his legacy
this was hilarious and heartwarming at the same time
Wow, when even the cold, dead heart of Cory is moved by Coco, you know you have a great movie. The biggest plot hole for me in this movie is that when Imelda died, why didn't Coco just remove all the music restrictions? She obviously liked music and loved her dad. She could have put him back in the ofreta and explained how he was a good dad and a musician. It seems weird that she would raise her daughter to be equally hateful of music. But I do love this movie, because it is just a beautiful film and does a great job of displaying Mexican culture.
I can't remember if La Llorona is a Mexican folktale or just a Latin one, but there definitely is a a connection with the song Mama Imelda sings
I remember watching this in the movie theater with my dad, i was bawling at the end, i could see my dad was crying too, i have never seen him cry other than that time and the day my mom died (they were already separated at that time tho)
This movie makes me cry everytime .it was so sweet to see yall get emotional over this movie .
You guys came up as a suggested page and I've been binge watching for the last few days. Thanks for the laughs guys I can't stop laughing 😂😂
" I put myself on a pedestal like a queen " wrecked me 😂😂
As Latin-American, been salty af and hate things with no reason is a family thing at this point
Love your reactions guys. I would tune it down a little bit between the shots and the jokes so you can pay more attention, you are missing a lot of information that is essential to the plot or movie in general. For example you mentioned there were no cameras, correct but also he said... It has to be pass from generation to generation like telling stories about Greatgrandpa. Passed from Grandpa to his son and he will pass it to his own sons, etc. At one point it will vanish. That is how you keep it alive as long as it can. No photos were needed back then. That was the latest addition to the tradition... It is an ancient celebration of the dead before the conquistadors arrived to the Americas... I'm not Mexican but I'd like to be informed of traditions like the day of the dead. Keep it up!!! Just out of curiosity... Have you ever ended up super drunk or buzzed reacting to a movie? Or these are water shots to fake it? Just curious. I'd like to watch that reaction. Cheers!!!
I'm Mexican so it’s crazy to me that you guys are reacting to this🤍✨ and i'm more surprised that Nick knows a lot of things about México (you were right about la llorona)
This is the first time that i was crying but of laughter watching this movie😂 you bring a joke out of anything. But if a Mexican without a context of who you are watch this reaction, sorry cory but they are gonna hate you💀 HAHAHA but i love you guys🤍
Some facts that no one asked: alebrijes are a thing in México but they are not real, we do believe in this tradition like that and on that day we do paint ourselves as “skulls” like miguel:)
I have to say it, Nick and Cory saying words in spanish? Hot
It’s almost the same plot of the book of life which was a 2014 cartoon movie I’d watch it If I were you I liked it more
No one:
Cory: “ITS PAPITA”😂😂😂😂
It is very sad that Hector died while he was planning to return to his family and his wife had a bad memory of him because she was not aware of his death 😭😔
Wait until Cory finds out there's ball sack looking dogs like Dante irl... its a xolo dog lmaooo
i love them but the fact that they comment bad things about the Xoloitzcuintli is kinda upsetting. get cultured first hehe
Still waiting for one day they watch train to busan, it’s such a classic
I'm always reminded of The Book of Life when I watch this film lol. I'd love to see Nick & Cory react to that someday - they're very different films, but they share a few distinct similarities, i.e.:
- both are about Mexican culture the Day of the Dead
- the main character wants to be a musician, but their family forbids it
- both have a big focus on family, especially dead ancestors
- the dead twin relatives who fight goons 33:41
* *spoiler* .... the antagonist is crushed by a bell 3:41 37:06, etc
I wish I could watch this movie with someone who could teach me about some of the cultural things. There are so many things I’ve learned just from reading the comments.
Dante is actually a dog which in Mexican culture has the capacity to go to the world of the living and the dead!
You guys need to watch void styles from teen wolf
one of the best movies disney made to show a different culture
34:30 La Llorona means The Weeping Woman so its a story about a person not a place😂
Their accents went from Spanish to Italian to Gru from Despicable Me😆
7:34 I think he made an ofrenda for him but he does have the guitar there
Um an alter is a wedding chapel or reparation of something, I think you mean a shrine Cory😂
I also kind of admired Miguel’s ambition & headstrong attitude to get what tf he wanted, even tho he got more than what he bargained for.
When coco sings it makes me cry every time
The dog is a Xoloxcuintle. Native hairless dog to southern México. The underground water pit is called a Cenote, they are naturaly forming in southern México as well. Tourist attractions.
Okey guy with short pants its so hot 👀😂
