ElectricMayhem87 its not racist to get angry at a news agency for unnecessarily mirroring the behaviors of one race with another because 1) nobody in the mainstream media or even local media has said this, at least not to the extent that needs to be responded to; and 2) you are being the racist here. And heres why: if a white man murdered a whte girl and a news agency, out of nowhere, pointed to another story where this time a black man murdered a white girl, compares and reports ot as, "SEE BLACK MEN KILL WHITE GIRLS TOO" then is that not similar to saying "SEE EVEN THOUGH A WHITE PERSON DID SOMETHING BAD DOESNT MEAN BLACK PEOPLE ARE BETTER".? where am i wrong becausw tyt is simply doing the reverse of this and are saying white people arent any better than those blacks BUT WITHOUT NEEDING TO. excuse the grammar and mistypes
Gregg Paul He shouldn't talk about it this way because the mainstream media hasn't talked about it this way? He's commenting on their coverage, noting the difference between the way rioting among white kids vs black kids is covered. Obviously the media themselves are not commenting on their own (mostly unconscious) bias. The media covers white youth differently from the way it covers black youth. This is a pretty good example of that phenomenon. This is the point of the video. Do you have a factual objection, or do you just not want to hear about race at all?
I'm a little confused about this comparison. Did any of the college students smash store windows and loot? I think the difference was no stores were looted which is why the cops were in force in Ferguson.. And the looting went on for days while this college brawl was one evening, am I correct about this fact? I'm not a racist I just am not sure if this is a good comparison.
***** Look, I think some people perceive the term "white privilege" with a little angst. It seems like some think it means that all whites are more guilty whilst black folks are always innocent. Wouldn't it make more sense that it refers to the attitudes and perceptions of people, especially cops, when it comes to suspects. You cannot deny that sociologically, many cops would react differently to a white guy in a black hoodie in the middle of the night as a black person doing the same thing. It's not an issue of statistics, it's ingrained sociological behavior.
What a false equivalency. You cannot compare these for many reasons, the biggest reason being that this was instant, came from a party and was on a college campus. Ferguson built up over time. If the "pumpkin" riot had a day two then things would be just like Ferguson. As a black man I see these stark differences and the race bait going on in this video.
No, they're properly and adequately compared. I'm always amazed at how stupid people are. Do y'all not know what the word "compare" means? You can compare ANYTHING to anything else as long as they have similar structures of some sort. What you cannot do and what Cenk did not do was equate the two.
Gwen Traveler You think I'm not aware that racism doesn't exist. I'm just saying these are to different scenarios that came from two very different situations and timelines.
I deal with racism myself, especially when I was younger. This case to me does is not compelling enough to use as a tool to show white privilege. I'm making a video on this
I live right near where this happened. A few pumpkins my brother did were in the thing. I think that the articles should switch the treatment. Ferguson are fighting for rights, these kids were drunk idiots. The media treats them kind, but I know a lot of people are wanting them in jail. I actually didn't think of Ferguson in this (but I also didn't realize until now this was a big thing outside of New Hampshire and thought the only media would be the Keene newspaper), but this is really true. The treatment is unfair. Also, to address the end of the video, as a white person I would like to apologize for these idiot kids.
dreammatch2000 You tell someone they should be shot to death over a comment on RUclips while accusing people of being trash? You're below trash. You're not worth the dog shit on the bottom of a shoe.
WTF? Why are you comparing ferguson and these college students. In two completely different locations and completely different scenarios. And your throwing race in there. WTF?
***** dont bother explaining most of the retards in youtube dont even finish watching the video , and if they do they have no idea what they just watched...
Since Google made those stupid changes in the comment system and unleashed the troll tsunami, your line of thought is EXACTLY what crosses my mind in almost every youtube video nowadays... I really want to believe some of those comments are made by trolls :S
Lmao, these were all fucking hilarious. But I almost shit myself when you mentioned how band aids are for white people. Why don't you sue Band-Aid for being racist? LMFAO!!!... All of these things are few and far between, circumstantial, and extremely over hyped by race baiting/victim mongering media outlets.
William Grand It's funny how you didn't get the answer you expected. Instead you brand a "circumstantial" truth with a name (race/baiting) that you hope will blemish an argument. Maybe you could post another comment and try again.
MsJessIZcrazy 3. Seen as an individual and not a group of people. Except when you make generalizing statements about them and say they all benefit from white privilege. Moreover, your list is specifically targeted towards black people, making it a black vs. white issue rather than a white vs. all other races. This is why I keep saying white privilege should be replaced with the term 'racial majority bias', as that term is accurate and doesn't imply racism, along with referring to bias rather than privilege which gets to the core of the issue. In alot of Asian countries and African countries white people are minorities, and the 'privileged' dominant race will gain advantages that over white people and any other non-dominant races that exist there. White privilege implies that all across the world white people are always seen as superior, when in reality that concept exists in Europe and North America because they are majority white countries that are biased towards the racial majority.
I suppose the intention of this video is to inform white people that they are indeed more privileged than most minorities, by comparing how the police and media reacts to similar scenarios, only with the colors of the perpetrators being different. However, I feel it does nothing more than rile up minorities, spurring up even more resentment against white people, many of whom already openly accept that "White Privilege" exists and want to help make a change. How can we work together to create a fair and just society if we're constantly getting baited into resenting each other? We're all here to stay after all.
Great question! However, I don't believe we will ever get to a place of understanding until more white people realize/understand these differences on how each race is treated compared to the other. Only then can the conversation actually move forward. You can't solve this discrimination issue if one side continues to act as if the problem doesn't exist. I just hope when we are able to push passed this part of the conversation it doesn't revert to the whole 'I'm colorblind' BS. Seeing color/ethnicity/culture differences is a good thing. Applying prejudgment to a whole segment of ppl based of those things are what's causing the problem. In my opinion. *but what do I know *Kanye shrug* lol
We are not all here to stay. Currently African Americans only make up about 11.5% of the population, by 2025 only 9%. The truth is if we lose them we will fail as a country. We will be overrun and the American people will fall. The truth is there would be no America without Africans and when we no longer have African Americans, there will once again be no America.
Yates I'm not sure if you are trolling are serious! LOL. But my best guess would be that the races will continue to mate with each other producing a undefinable blob of a race with no distinct culture features. Hell, in about 50-60 years mixed race ppl will be the majority over whites and blacks. If I'm not mistaken, this has already been proving by the percentage of each race of kids under 5 or so. Don't quote me though.
Cenk, I'm going to make this simple: Do you understand the difference between a lower income community, and a college campus? See by asking this question I'm taking race out of the equation -- not to say it isn't important, but to shine light on the myopic view you took in this piece. It is obvious authorities will, and do, react differently in different contexts; in the case of the two contrasted examples (Keene State College & Ferguson). Cops on college campuses, and around college campuses, are _far_ more lenient than elsewhere in the region _country-wide_.
The point Cenk was making was not about the police response but the way these stories are reported in the press. He clearly makes this distinction at around the 5:46 mark. Also, comparing a lower income community and a college campus does not in any way take race out of the equation. Racial issues are very complex and multi-layered. In this country when you say lower income community, you're pretty much saying minority areas, inner cities or black population.
Speak for your college campus. My campus' police department is very strict on the students. Partly because it is one of the largest universities in the nation. Also being drunk shouldn't be an excuse. Lastly, you need to read more on this incident. A student admitted that he enjoyed the high of rebelling against police. I understand that over the years, some Americans became anti-police, but if the main reason you are against the police is to get that high feeling, then that clearly describes thug behavior. Especially if the police officers are simply doing their jobs. There is no excuse for such behavior. Call it what it is, violent and thuggish.
But in America the income distribution is distinctly black and white (pun intended.) Whites tend to live in high income neighborhoods and blacks tend to live in low income neighborhoods. By default it is a race issue; indeed scholars call it de facto segregation. Remember that segregation was more than just about telling blacks where they could drink and piss. It was a system of economic oppression as well as political oppression that created generational poverty in the U.S.. So you can literally find all black neighborhoods and all white neighborhoods and guess not only the income levels, but the education level, labor participation and many other economic indicators. Its certainly not a coincidence that the majority race--us whites--have all the power, money and education. And this I think lies at the heart of what white privilege actually is; rather by structure, whites enjoy more leeway in society because their culture has allocated resources to them that other races do not enjoy. And surely whites see no adverse effects from such a system so it is possible for some to deny it exist. Sorry my friend, but racial disparity is America's legacy and thus is not so easily deduced from the equation, no matter how badly you desire it to be. Only by seeing the problem can we begin to solve it.
What do you mean by "taking race out of the equation"??? Racism exists dude and it hits minorities hard in this country. You cant deny something that exist because it make you feel uncomfortable.
I'm not sure "white privilege" is good terminology. It takes the focus off of getting minority rights and puts it on white people, it turns rights that *everyone* deserves into "privileges" Does that really seem productive or even neutral? It seems counterproductive. Instead shouldn't we focus on the brutality of police against minorities, harassment of minorities, systemic, cultural, and economic oppression of minorities, and how to solve those problems. Not focus on how peachy white people have it, when everybody is struggling. The confusion of rights with privileges seems very harmful.
***** actualy we should change feminism to to Gender Equalists inorder to separate people who actualy want equal rights from the people who just want to keep a few men alive for breeding perposes (via artificial insemination because obviously all sex is rape)
I'm saying privilege is the wrong word, not white. Whatever it is, cis, hetero, religious affiliation, age, etc. Focusing on privilege is blaming, focusing on discrimination is empowering. And Gender Egalitarian is a growing term used by those who support gender equality and empowerment but don't subscribe to ideas prominent if feminist academia such as the idea that androcentrism is behind all sexism, racism, rape, ageism, ableism, homophobia, and all other social issues that matter, and that masculinity is the source of social ills and must be suppressed. It is hard to be associated with such a group, so many have stopped.
hey im black but race doesn't matter I want u guys to know that im 13 I live in Baltimore and experienced racism first hand but for me to have a police officer confront me for no reason lets put this in a scenario:Lets say Michael robbed a store Michael is indeed (white) the police catch him Michael has a gun in his yet he doesn't fire the police doesn't fire either he gets arrested for a pretty long time right? scenario 2: James is a (black) kid he robs someone's house he gets caught he puts his hands up and in his hand is this item a bottle do u know what happened to James.........let me tell u James brothers and family had to carry his coffin to his final resting place James was 13 he cant see his mother anymore and Michael well Michael got out 5 months earlier Michael was 21 Michael got to see his mother again do u think it was fair?
That is not fair to a lot of people. That is a complete generalization. Not all people are bad people and that happens just as much to white people as it does to black people. Let's just say that you are a policeman that is breaching a house in the ghetto that is known for having knives and firearms. A knife in the hands of a teenager can do just as much damages a handgun if not more.
Many negative comments over something more than one person has noticed. All of these negative comments make it seem Cenk is doing this on his own, yet if you browse the web and you'll see many a score of people have also seen the comparison. Just expand your viewing angle
Tbh in college, you can get away with all off this especially cause they probably deal with this shit every year. A bunch of college kids acting a hot mess. The race thing is true bit in this case, it's irrelevant because they aren't protesting, its not a certain community of people that are being oppressed, and of couse college partes are wild. But nice try Cenk for trying to stick up for black people. Leave it to us though cause thisis irrelevant to life. Like, a fucking college campus throws a wild.and chaotic party. Literally nothing new.
The nature of these privileges is that *you only notice them if you DON'T have them*. Don't expect to *feel* privileged - you only know the difference if you actually live the other experience (or, y'know, don't disregard every single piece of evidence: anecdotal, statistical, empiric, self evident...). A very good litnus test of a person's integrity is whether they accept or reject being told that regardless of how bad aspects of your world experience may be, there are people in your country who are being fucked over in ways that you are not. They are being fucked over not because of something they have done but because of their ethnicity, income group, religious/lack of beliefs, sexual orientation, inbuilt gender identity etc. A decent person is not okay with this. Why should any child brought into this world get fucked over while another is better looked after? A decent person finds this intolerable, a decent person does not say "I'm bored of hearing about this" because their cross to bear in this life is to have to *hear* about people being fucked over in ways they're immune to? White privilege isn't an attack on white people, you fools, white privilege is an acknowledgement of how white people are attacked *the least*. Doesn't mean white people aren't attacked? Means other ethnicities are attacked *far more* and this isn't a pissing contest, it's a problem that needs fixing - not hiding from because some unaffected people don't like hearing about it.
I love how the man-boys like to point out ANY double-standards between men and women (feminism stories), but when it's THIS kind of story yeah they fall RIGHT in with the double-standard treatment, i HATE the White Privilege argument a lot of the times, but THIS one was made very clear by Cenk, cant argue with it.
I don't like a phrase "white privelege" and this video for a couple of reasons: 1. When comparing how white people and black people are treated we can conclude that there is a difference and we call that "white privelege", then we can also compare black people with asian people and conclude the same thing and call this "Asian privilege", right? I don't hear that phrase that often, I wonder why? 2. The word "privelege" should also apply for other things: in US there are Christian privelege, rich people privelege, even good looking people have privilege over not so good looking ones. Strange, but I don't hear any of those phrases in the media. I feel like it's some kind of double standart going on, maybe race baiting? 3. I think it's disingenuous to scream "white privelege" without having any definite proof (maybe those kids were rich and it's the "money privelge"?), also this video is only about media (not even all media, but a certain type of media), you can't generalize the believes of all society (like the title does) just because of what Fox news or any other network with an agenda has said, that's just stupid.
North Star 1. What is a White Society? You have described it as if it was some self governing body that can get together and make decisions that every part of it must follow as if it was an organized group of some sort. I don't see how such a view can reflect reality in any way, shape or form. Furthermore, even people who are racist are such for very different reasons. How can they all get together and decide "Hey, we'll be good for the Asians, but racists for the Blacks", that sounds ridiculous. 2.And a white guy can't be killed driving in a hood? That's just stupid anecdotal evidence and it has nothing to do with a point that I was making. To further my point, I also think that money privilege is a lot bigger divider of society in general than any other thing combined. Someone who has tons of money (like Jay Z for ex.) is one hundred times more privileged than any white, christian, good looking guy could ever be. 3. I don't disagree, but it only goes for the media and only right wing media, liberal media are doing the opposite thing usually, this video is a great example of that. Again, it's not fair to generalize a view of society based on some media network.
It's spelled privilege. Yes, there is white privilege. You admit yourself, when you say that Asians have privilege over blacks etc. why don't they talk about Asian privilege? Same reason they don't talk about good looking people privilege: it's not an issue! The dominant race, and therefore privileged people are white, and society feels it's unfair, so people talk about white privilege.
mini Cal I don't use the term white privilege, i call it discrimination against blacks (with some caveats, because money privilege is also a huge problem there, those blacks who are the most discrimated against are also the poorest ones, while the rich ones are either not discriminated against or discriminated much less). "Same reason they don't talk about good looking people privilege: it's not an issue!" - How is that not an issue? If it exists, it means that people are getting fucked over it in their lives. If you say that it's not an issue you are discriminating, because you are separating a majority just because they are the majority. White privilege concept is not only discriminatory, but also innacurate, because as I've stated before, a black male with a lot of money could be a 100 times more priviledged than a white, christian good looking guy with no such resources.
There is white privilege, there is male privilege, there is rich privilege, there is able-privilege (Non-handicapped, non-mentally ill), there is straight privilege etc. Privilege does not mean your life is perfect, or even good at all. It just means that as far as society goes, your identity is better protected and catered to, from stereotypes, from mass-scale negative public opinions, you have certain advantages that come from your status in society. Generally allowing you to have better self-esteem and better opportunities. And if you disagree, can you honestly tell me with a straight face, that a white straight rich male who is not physically or mentally handicapped, has the same amount of privilege and receives the same respect and opportunities, as a poor black lesbian female who is mentally ill or handicapped? Or even a poor black lesbian female who isn't handicapped? I feel that everyone really knows that privilege exists, they know there are much more negative connotations with being a certain race/gender/sexual orientation in society, for some reason they are just extremely stubborn to try to deny it. I always wonder why, I never had trouble realizing my own privileges either. It's pretty obvious when you start to pay attention.
DeadButBreathing I have never said that I deny the existance of privilege in general, I encourage you to read my posts and react to my objections rather than build up a strawman. I only reject male privilege (only in western society) and I don't accept white privilege when there are no phrases like "Asian privilege", "Rich privilege" being used when spoken about similar things in similar contexts, that's a double standart and that's unfair. And again, I think it's more about racism and black discrimination rather than white privilege, because Asians don't get the same treatment as blacks, so it's not about whites being viewed as superior, it's about blacks being viewed as inferior, that's why it's not really a "white privilege", but a discrimation towards...
The AP said, for instance, of the Ferguson protests, "Christian, Jewish and Muslim clergy members - some of whom were among the first arrested - led a prayer service before marching to the police station two blocks away." Clearly the author felt that it was worth noting that *clergy* were among the first arrested in a protest dubbed "Moral Monday." There goes your entire argument, Cenk.
+Frank Monaco they're still white though they're skin is white you can't tell me there not. Also, they're not racist because they're point out a true fact about white privilege in this country. idc too much tho bc white people are the majority of course there gonna have privilege.
I'm not the type to deny a deeply ingrained racism in many aspects of America (media included), but you can in no way make any rational connection between what happened at Pumpkinfest NH and Ferguson. And because the two situations are so dissimilar you CAN NOT COMPARE the media coverage. Also I have a certain right to speak on this matter, being a Keene State student myself. Do you know why many stories have focused on the efforts of the Keene State students cleaning the day after? Because of the 80,000 attendees of Pumpkinfest only 5,000 were Keene State students. Our community and campus got trashed by visitors, and we pulled together (quite beautifully I might add) to clean the mess. In fact it was a touching story. But you would say reporting on that is the racist media? That assertion so viciously undermines the efforts of all us students at KSC to better the community that we love. I personally put in over 7 hours. I could go on and on, but I will leave with one last point. The most shocking event I witnessed were the actions led by law enforcement. Before a single riot broke out, or any significant mayhem ensued, cops used rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse large crowds of people. The intense insurgence of cops on the town and their unwarranted appearance in full on gear at the beginning is the REAL story to focus on. Seeing it all first hand, it makes me wonder how many other countless events have the Young Turks misconstrued?
Read a story about Prospect Park in Brooklyn that focused on the trash left in the park after an event got too big due to social media. It was only the Black event that received criticism. By the way, the original attendees were upwardly mobile Black New Yorker so no "were they busing gats?" excuse. By the way, most of the Ferguson protesters were from outside Ferguson.
There are so many things wrong with this video. Lets start with the most basics. TYT compared a pointless riot done pretty much for fun to Ferguson which was about the oppression of african americans and the shooting of a kid. Second, TYT didn't seem to take into account the fact that the 2 police departments (Ferguson, Keene) are ran by 2 different people, and employ different people, and differ from one another. Not saying that there wasn't truth to what tyt was saying, but you are being hypocritical in the sense that you always boast Correlation does not imply causation in other video, yet it wasn't applied to this scenario?
I go to Keene State, this Pumpkin Festival had nothing to do with the parties and "riots". We have Keene State Pumpkin Fest every year, it's when students and their visitors come and party, we have traditional backyard parties and it's never been like this.. we were rioting because the police shut down parties early in the day and they know it happens so why were they being so harsh? Yes it might've been necessary but some thought it was not. If you were there you would know what actually happened and most of the destruction was caused by visitors...We weren't rioting over pumpkins and we're not over privileged "whites", this is the cheapest school I've heard of..Thank you
As a fellow white person I find this act of civil disobedience deplorable and unjustifyable. Stand with me white brothers, stand tall, stand strong and boo these pumpkin haters! *raises fist in the air* *you hear a loud 'Raaaaaahhhh!' echoing through the crowd*
Thugs are thugs, regardless of skin color. Criminals are criminals, regardless of skin color. I put the blame for inciting racial tensions directly on the media. I put the blame for the looting, burning and destruction on those who were looting, burning and destroying. Part of the blame also rests on the shoulders of those bystanders who stand around watching and doing nothing to stop it. And this guy... a fool.
during Katrina there was a AP article that stated "residents find food" pictured was a white couple with black garbage bag, on the other side a picture of a black man carrying a simular bag with the caption "man walks through after looting grocery store.
Im a Kentucky fan. And this reminds me of when we won the championship in 2012. The UK students were breaking store windows, looting, setting fires, and flipping over cars. The msjority of the rioters were white. What I found odd is that the cops were so mellow about this. They would sometimes step in and say "break it up" in s soft voice. Just think. How many riots have you seen from sporting events? Too many. And the rioters are generally white. Think of how long and tolerated these riots are.
Keep up the awesome work TYT. What's the difference between a Liberal and a Conservative? Liberals see hypocrisy and seek to do something about it, while Conservatives are motivated by its dissemination.
Its weird hearing cenk talk about something that happened in my town. Yeah it was an absolute warzone, I am going to say first, Those kids were fucking insane, they were chanting USA USA USA while they tore down street signs and flipped cars. They basically rioted for fun because Keene has a Bearcat tank and they wanted to see it. Most of the kids were from UNH and Boston, and didnt give a crap. I kinda wish the story wasnt tied into the ferguson stuff, which I think people should stand behind those people, the kids here are extremely violent and I would probably say a lot worse.
I remember reading about Mark Wahlberg's lawbreaking antics and the lenient treatment he received when he was young and thinking, what if he had been black?
Rioting of any kind is pointless, but how can you compare a weekend long out of control party on a campus to a month long shut down of a city, it doesn't make sense.
I love my fairy tale non existent White Privilege. So far I'm semi-homeless, have no money in the Bank, owe more debt in School loans and a car payment. While a Black guy took my job. Has it better at College due to Affirmative Action and their own all Black Non Racist Colleges. Cause an all Black college isn't racist, right? Also, our news team is all Black now and I see more Blacks on TV then ever before. Heck they even have a new Racist Show called and named Black.ish. My Nephews are half Black. My new Boss is Black. My Attorney is Black and the President of the USA is Black. Yep, it's great to have the fairy Tale White Privilege. Fairy tale because I've never seen it. May as well be a Unicorn.
You keep talking about how "unarmed" people are getting shot in reference to Michael Brown, but are you forgetting that Brown actually reached into the officer's car and attacked him? That tweet saying he "put his hands up and caught six shots" is just bull crap. No, he assaulted a police officer, and as a result, he was shot to death.
The reason Ferguson didn't get credit for the clean up is because the story was about much more than the riot and of course there was a lot more damage still not fixed. Here the only story is the riot, so naturally there is going to be more of a focus on the clean up. With Ferguson you had huge political implications at play. This is just some random one night riot by a bunch of drunks, not much to take from it outside of the wreckage and cleanup. It isn't like when white ppl start protesting something political they get passes if some violence erupts. WTO protest turned Seattle into a war zone basically, and that was a bunch of white college students.
Tyt has a major troll infestation problem. I wish youtube had some kind of admin feature where they could appoint some community members to take care of it.
Cut that "anti-white" shit out. Pointing out white people are given the benefit of the doubt and other courtesies isn't condemning them. That's a really fucking mundane correlation on your end.
I grew up in midwestern Missouri, poor, in a trailer park, and I've had a shitty life. I'm white, and yet I'm supposed to be better off. Well guess what, there is no white privilege, only money.
Ferguson's participants were not mostly college students gathering at a pumpkin bash, and were not were not mostly drunk teenagers. The difference in tone and reaction to the events starts with the backdrops and reasons for the two gatherings; not the race of the participants. However, when police officers forcefully break up a group of largely white gatherings with riot gear, the police are said to mostly be doing their jobs. However, when police break up a group of largely black protesters, they is said to be an element of racism in the officers actions. Also, situations in which unarmed white guys shot by police generally don't receive much media attention or result in widespread protests as the public assumes that they must have been bad dudes because police are not prejudiced against white guys. Whether true or not, isn't police brutality or excessive use of force a bad thing, no matter what we deem to be the officer's motivation? Not all police brutality or excessive force are based purely or even partly on racism, and studies show that these situations often starts with over-zealousness by some officers to bring immediate control to a volatile situation, --- when in many cases, discussion and backing down would have been the better solution during the heat of the moment. As mentioned earlier, most of the public immediately assume that white guys like Dillon Taylor in SLC, Utah; or Gilbert Collar in Mobile, Alabama, must have been a "bad dudes", since they were both shot and killed by officers who both happened to be black. (Imagine the immediate media attention and uproar if the victims had been black and shot by a white officers. ) Both officers in these cases have been determined to following proper protocol, but it seems to me, any young life ended by excessive force, no matter the race of the victim or the officers involved, should be considered as a tragic loss of life. Why can't we all agree on that, and start with this common ground, instead of focusing on ways to differentiate and divide us on this complex issue???
Difference in police response: In New Hampshire, riot police armed with paintball guns, billy clubs and tear gas to suppress rioters. In Ferguson, armored vehicles, semi-auto rifles, pistols, sniper weapons, etc.
Typically when riots go on for weeks you continue to elevate the response until you get the end result you want (order). Had the college kids riots lasted weeks you would have seem the same response. And had the Ferguson riots lasted only a few hours or even a day, you wouldn't have seen that heavy handed response. But don't let common sense get in the way of your race baiting.
"Organizers saaaay that most of the people thereeee weren't from Furgeson." That's exactly what it said in this article... "the student body present said most weren't students." The only difference is the way HE'S reading it, not the way the fucking things are written.
"Tone is important..." You get tone from text, Cenk? "Organizers of the protest *say* that a lot of people are not from the Ferguson community..." "Student Body President Bobby Graham *said* he was disgusted by the destruction he saw..." You could emphasize the second quote in the exactly in the same manner as Cenk did the first. What a stretch. The only difference is in the form of "say" used for plural agreement. Both are: stated . I don't see how you see a difference at all.
Do you guys remember the UC Berkeley protest on the same day (if I am not mistaken) as the Penn State U riots over the Paterno guy. That proved also that police acts one way if there is thick politics involved and another when there isn't.
Thank you for drawing the comparisons. I'm so sick of hearing about Black Riots. I don't approve of any property destructive activities, but I hate it when people act like Blacks are the only ones exhibiting this behavior. At least Blacks are protesting someone's death. Not a pumpkin party or football game.
I appreciate Cenk for making a point and covering this cultural disparity. It looks like roughly 2/3 of people agree based on likes, which means this topic is grating and controversial to some, but I love it!
It's pretty telling that the tweets were nothing but snark and sarcasm. (the default setting for people with nothing of value to say) That's because, deep down inside, they know darn well that there is no comparison. That it would be folly to actually expect to hear the same responses to the riot in Keene that one hears in response to the carnage which plays out every weekend in places like Chicago, St Louis, Detroit and everywhere else a significant black population is found.
Cenk points out 2 very important facts. 1.) His "Colleagues" in the media field are biased, inaccurate and for the most part should be fired. 2) The police should have used tanks, heavy weapons and beat the shit out of those kids. (In the spirit of equal rights). Seriously though, the "Kids" involved should have been thrown out of school and or sent to jail.
The kids at #keenestate threw deer cans at copes and got arrested. Mike Brown threw his hands up and caught SIX shots. Was this the same officer in both instances? Would the officers participating in the Keene State riot have treated black individuals who were acting in the exact same manner differently? Do you have a case to prove that *these* officers have treated the black community differently? Critical thinking is lacking in this guy who stated that quote.
remember that old eddie murphy skit where he dressed like a white guy and got free money from the banks and dance parties when blacks weren't around? people actually believed that's how it is i guess
College is expensive, college students mean children of people of means. You don't hurt kids if their parent's may be loaded. This isn't white privilege, this is rich privilege.
It's actually scary how mamy people I see lately who believe any rave is superior to another and if you believe it's a joke, it's not funny to me and im sure many other people out there too. No human being is more important or less valuable than myself or anybody else you see on the street (no matter how fucked up your state of mind is). Whoever plays this race baiting card needs to realise that you must acknowledge the problem before it can be fixed.
This is hurtful to racists. Racists hate being reminded that racism exists.
Poor babies. Imagine having to live with it directly and negatively affecting them every day...
Kramer!!!
If only a quarter of those things happened in ferguson it would have been a blood bath, at least 90% of the town would've been wiped out
***** you just made that shit up
I'm a little confused about this comparison. Did any of the college students smash store windows and loot? I think the difference was no stores were looted which is why the cops were in force in Ferguson.. And the looting went on for days while this college brawl was one evening, am I correct about this fact? I'm not a racist I just am not sure if this is a good comparison.
The college students flipped over cars. I think that's a pretty big deal.
Nick Terrance
woah, calm down kid, its just a youtube comment.
Taidana Kalashnikov Poor you. You sound mad emotional about it and like a bitch. U mad, boo boo?
They flipped cars and destroyed other vehicles...over pumpkins. Imagine the mayhem if cops were know to gun them down.
So if the exact incident took place at Spelman or Moore House the results would have been the same?
No, they're properly and adequately compared. I'm always amazed at how stupid people are. Do y'all not know what the word "compare" means? You can compare ANYTHING to anything else as long as they have similar structures of some sort. What you cannot do and what Cenk did not do was equate the two.
Gwen Traveler You think I'm not aware that racism doesn't exist. I'm just saying these are to different scenarios that came from two very different situations and timelines.
I deal with racism myself, especially when I was younger. This case to me does is not compelling enough to use as a tool to show white privilege. I'm making a video on this
OOOOH! So it's okay, then?
Mmmm!
Logic.
I wonder how many times they were called thugs on the news.
Why is fatherless exclusively a black issue. I thought America in general had a problem with broken households.
America does, but illegitimacy is highest amongst blacks
***** can you point me to a link. I know illegitimacy is a problem in Europe as well, but I didn't know whites averaged out higher globally.
I don't see any possible purpose to the way this video was presented other than specifically race baiting.
Where have you been?
numerocro Woah... last time that was called, a lot of people died....
*facepalm*
On behalf of the white delegation… we’re sorry.
"Ferguson are fighting for rights"
Funniest line of horseshit I've read so far tonight.
Now all we need is for Al And Jesse apologize for all of the flash robs and knock out games perpetuated throughout the nation.
dreammatch2000
Randall didn't insult you. He called you exactly what you are
dreammatch2000
You tell someone they should be shot to death over a comment on RUclips while accusing people of being trash? You're below trash. You're not worth the dog shit on the bottom of a shoe.
WTF? Why are you comparing ferguson and these college students. In two completely different locations and completely different scenarios. And your throwing race in there. WTF?
*****
dont bother explaining most of the retards in youtube dont even finish watching the video , and if they do they have no idea what they just watched...
Did any of these kids punch a cop in the face and grab for his gun?
Nor did Michael Brown.
Get your facts right
Some of the comments on this video are so stupid, I prefer to believe they're just trolls playing their position
Since Google made those stupid changes in the comment system and unleashed the troll tsunami, your line of thought is EXACTLY what crosses my mind in almost every youtube video nowadays... I really want to believe some of those comments are made by trolls :S
Name one privilege or special treatment that I get for being white...
MsJessIZcrazy
No troll, those are statistical facts and historical facts. What part did you think I was trolling about?
Yeah THIS will stir up minorities. This and nothing else. SMH.
Cenk, I'm going to make this simple:
Do you understand the difference between a lower income community, and a college campus?
"And after the riot they all went home and ate there Vegetables"
So eating vegetables erases thug behavior. . . learn something new everyday.
***** actualy we should change feminism to to Gender Equalists inorder to separate people who actualy want equal rights from the people who just want to keep a few men alive for breeding perposes (via artificial insemination because obviously all sex is rape)
well said man! well said!
But that's what they want. They don't want to be elevated, they want to bring us down to their level.
I've been saying this from the start. Its a divisive term with little usefulness.
+Wulf He's making a scenario. An incorrect one at that.
Nobody says anything about the unarmed white kids getting shot by cops! And yes...... It does happen.
I wonder why Sean Hannity and Bill-O haven't said much about this riot?
Wow, extremely valid question.
I was born in New Hampshire, I never heard anything this bad ever there. I lived there for 16 1/2 years. Most my childhood
Many negative comments over something more than one person has noticed. All of these negative comments make it seem Cenk is doing this on his own, yet if you browse the web and you'll see many a score of people have also seen the comparison.
Just expand your viewing angle
Cenk Smash! thanks for the truth TYT
If blacks or latinos did this they would be trying to pass a new law or something
The students aren't getting pumped up over pumpkins- stop saying that. They could care less about that, they simply wanted to party and be crazy.
It's so hilarious and so sad at the same time.
I don't like a phrase "white privelege" and this video for a couple of reasons:
The AP said, for instance, of the Ferguson protests, "Christian, Jewish and Muslim clergy members - some of whom were among the first arrested - led a prayer service before marching to the police station two blocks away." Clearly the author felt that it was worth noting that *clergy* were among the first arrested in a protest dubbed "Moral Monday." There goes your entire argument, Cenk.
either way i love being white.
+AZ budski if you are white then you should love being as every other race should love being theirs
You love being considered "white".
i call white girls Pop-Tarts 😁
I don't think you guys get that in New Hampshire, the majority of college aged kids are either alcoholics or heroin addicts. Like, literally.
One of the more racist rants from TYT.
lmao they're white though
+Frank Monaco they're still white though they're skin is white you can't tell me there not. Also, they're not racist because they're point out a true fact about white privilege in this country. idc too much tho bc white people are the majority of course there gonna have privilege.
+Frank Monaco Also Civil Rights weren't in the 1920's lol
The 'white tribes' of the world have been very calm since WW2, might be good to remember that.
Just the ability to have a "riot for fun" is not something most minorities can do.
"riot for fun". that's a new one for me, man.
daaznrichard
Look up Kroger attack "just for fun".
I think im going to start using "riot for fun"
Andre Krumins Well riots can be fun.. ya know. Sometimes you just gotta burn cars, and loot stores to release that inner tension. Completely healthy.
This is why America makes me sick to my stomach...
236 thumbs down by racists and people who just don't get it.
If police were allowed to do non-desk desk pops, it would have sent all of these children scattering back to their dorms and parents houses.
I am a white person from New Hampshire, and I would like to deeply apologize for all white people that were involved in this pumpkin riot.
It's not a racial thing. It's a socioeconomic class thing.
meanwhile in the hong kong protests... collecting the garbage on the roads and 0 stores looted
You are right. The tones and connotations that are accompanied with these words are very important.
I wonder how much the damage cost. I'm sure it's a lot more than the cost it'll take to fix the business district in Ferguson.
not really an equal comparison ...what's with all the anti white stuff anyway
Cut that "anti-white" shit out. Pointing out white people are given the benefit of the doubt and other courtesies isn't condemning them. That's a really fucking mundane correlation on your end.
I grew up in midwestern Missouri, poor, in a trailer park, and I've had a shitty life. I'm white, and yet I'm supposed to be better off. Well guess what, there is no white privilege, only money.
Cenk, please go to Ferguson, or any majority-black neighborhood. Rent an apartment, roll down your windows, and you will get culturally enriched.
That's because the crowd in Ferguson, MO, were black!
"Organizers saaaay that most of the people thereeee weren't from Furgeson."
That's exactly what it said in this article... "the student body present said most weren't students." The only difference is the way HE'S reading it, not the way the fucking things are written.
O come on, it happens all over Europe. It's called letting off steam after exams
"Tone is important..."
You get tone from text, Cenk?
"Organizers of the protest *say* that a lot of people are not from the Ferguson community..."
"Student Body President Bobby Graham *said* he was disgusted by the destruction he saw..."
You could emphasize the second quote in the exactly in the same manner as Cenk did the first. What a stretch. The only difference is in the form of "say" used for plural agreement.
Both are: stated . I don't see how you see a difference at all.
They are carrying Paint ball guns unlike Ferguson. WOW FUCKING WOW!
One night of drunken debauchery verses weeks of violence & looting.
Paintball guns and tasers vs Assault weapons and tanks. Need you say more?
But it's not just pumpkins that they riot over. When their hockey team wins, they riot too. Yes "wins."
LoveYOUNG TURKS🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
So...Riots without a reason > Riots with a reason...
The same thing happened during Katrina.
TRUTH SHOULD ALWAYS BE NORMAL.
I Love This Man, Amazing Talking!
The spin is unbelievable. Reporting on what they want to hear. (mainstream media that is, not TYT necessarily)
I appreciate Cenk for making a point and covering this cultural disparity. It looks like roughly 2/3 of people agree based on likes, which means this topic is grating and controversial to some, but I love it!
Is there black privilege for there not reporting random 'youth' flashmob riots that happen every few months
He's right tone is extremely important.
THUGS!
I was there, it was just "happy go lucky students getting in a melee and then cleaning up"
Those tweets are great. Now that I think about it, I kind of wonder how many black people there are in Maine
What a stupid reason to try and gather a shit load of people together. I avoid those types of things...
No looting.
The young turks tells the truth once again
I think this is a pretty weak comparison, college campuses are very unique in how this kind of stuff works.
"Yeah don't shoot us. We should be allowed to rob a store and attack an officer trying to steal his gun to maybe shoot him."
and lets not forget the white media not giving this white riot national coverage
I like this guy... he keeps it real
Props to Cenk for this report.
I believe the person that was stereo typing deleted their comment. was just making a point
College is expensive, college students mean children of people of means. You don't hurt kids if their parent's may be loaded. This isn't white privilege, this is rich privilege.
Are you shitting me? If a riot happen at a HBCU you don't think it would get major coverage once people found out?
"wherefore, the guilty taketh the truth to be hard, for it cutteth them to the very center"... in the butt
I bet those dozens that got arrested quickly called their daddys to bail them out
It's actually scary how mamy people I see lately who believe any rave is superior to another and if you believe it's a joke, it's not funny to me and im sure many other people out there too.
No human being is more important or less valuable than myself or anybody else you see on the street (no matter how fucked up your state of mind is). Whoever plays this race baiting card needs to realise that you must acknowledge the problem before it can be fixed.
