It must have been a truly magical night for everyone and especially for the audience. Two legends like John Lennon and Elton John on the same stage. Elton always remembers John with a lot of love. I love both of them so much❤️ Great interview 👏🏻
He also played Imagine acoustic at the Apollo in December 1971. And technically, the Elton John concert wasn’t his last live performance, either… but you could argue it was his last “concert” appearance. He did sing three songs on a television special taped in front of an audience in April of 1975… though only two of the songs aired. But that performance was also taped in New York City at the Waldorf Astoria hotel.

Elton John is incredible in concert. He gives it everything, and just when you think it's over, that he's played every hit song, he plays another one...and another one...and another one...
I was at the Boston Garden show in 1973 when Elton brought out Stevie Wonder for a 2nd encore. They did " Honky Tonk Women". Blew the roof off the joint.
His new album , The Lockdown Sessions , just reached the top in UK Sales in its first week ,after its release. Congratulations to his outstanding talent !
We saw him in Shanghai in 2013/2014 (and i've seen some classic entertainers--whom we love--that don't have 'it' anymore). (No names, but Macca and Simon both know... and we love them anyway because OF COURSE we do.) :) But ELTON still sounds FANTASTIC. His voice has remained strong and clear (in a way that both aforementioned Pauls' haven't so much); my daughter was maybe 13 when she saw him in China, and she loved every minute of it. If he hadn't sounded good, you'd know from a 13 year old's perspective... they're not ambiguous about likes/dislikes. Retire if you must, Reggie, but know that you've given ACTUAL generations joy. And your fan base spans the globe, for REAL.
Going by memory here: I think John agreed to playing with Elton John on stage simply because he didn't think this song was going to go to number 1. When it did, Elton called John up and reminded him of his promise. The rest is history. John was very nervous as he hadn't been on stage in years. I also seem to recall that Yoko was in the audience that night and that John and Yoko reunited after being apart for so long. Something like that. Anyway, accurate or inaccurate, that's what I remember.
Elton's forgetting John played and filmed his Concert for New York at the Garden in 1972, two years before his 1974 appearance with Elton. Yes, it was his last live show, but not his first in the city since Shea Stadium.
Saw him in 1975 at the garden. Never forgot it. EJ is in the Goat discussion on rock n roll geniuses. He never big times people. Just works hard. We always appreciate that.
It was an amazing site of 1976 at Madison square garden at thanksgiving singing what ever gets you the night and before leaving elton and john singing i saw her standing there
He's pure magic and a sweet, sweet man. I know it's a ridiculous question, but does anyone know the name of the nature painting behind him? Or the name of the artist? It's just so beautiful I can't stop staring at it. Thanks.
That actually wasn’t Lennon’s final performance. The final one was on April 18th, 1975 where John and a hastily thrown together band played a show at the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton Hotel in NYC. It’s the show where John and the band are wearing those weird red jumpsuits and have masks on the backs of their heads.
John played live on 30 April 1972 at the One to One Concerts at Madison Sq. Garden and the concert with Elton in 1975 was not the first and last time he played in NYC since Shea Stadium.
I have the record of Elton and John Lennon on the cover they have their arms around eachother and on the back also. “Elton John band featuring John Lennon and the Muscle Shoalshorns” 👍🏻🔥✌🏻💜
Not his final concert but the one before the last, so almost. He made peace with the Beatles and Paul by playing a McCartneys song, I saw her standing there. Yoko was in the public to John's surprise and they fell in love again that night (like starting over). Jonh was in his best moment, with a long waited kid from Yoko, free of drugs and in peace with his past when he was cowardly killed.

John Lennon actually performed at MSG in August 1972, a charity concert, with Elephant's Memory and Yoko Ono.
I was going to comment the same thing! but Elton is more or less right in that John played live very seldom at all after the early Beatle days.

there's a video on youtube with Yoko allegedly in the crowd but it's fake; an actress recreated it because it was never filmed.
That story is pretty close to the truth. The fact that John and Yoko reunited that night is why Elton became Sean's godfather.
