Incredible. I grew up on Pac-Man, was afflicted by Pac-Fever & never felt better to this day at 50yrs old. This is truly not The Pac-Man of my childhood...it's crazy better & still evolving🥳.
I’m going to go out on a whim. He’s truly right, everything was remarkable reworked except for the gameplay to fit the time period this game released, especially the music and neon lights everywhere.
The buffered turn controls make even using analog sticks viable. Which is good for those of us with smaller hands trying to reach the right side of a dpad near the center of those humongous gamepads.
So was thinking about how this game happened during a trend of arcade style point chasing "modernized" takes on classic formulas. We had this, Super Street Fighter 2 Arcade Hyper Fighting Remix (Or whatever), Galaga Legions. And I believe it was Geometry Wars that actually started that whole interest to begin with. By comparison Championship Edition DX+ and Championship Edition 2 steer away from purists and add in a ton of gimmicks, which I suspect means the Arcade genre simply didn't get revived as intended. The purists stuck with simply replaying the original Pac-Man, or the un remixed version of Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, and the casual audience only plays those kinds of games with bells and whistles the purists wouldn't touch. The fact a great Robotron 1084 style game like Nex Machina failed so miserably when it was literally everything a hardcore arcade junkie could ever ask for was the final nail for classic arcade style games like this.
Actually looking at it now, they rebranded the achievements as "stamps", with the REAL achievements being based on how many stamps your collect for each game in Museum. And they even bumped up the point achievements by 100,000 points, you need to get 300,000 and 500,000 before the stamps pop. Yet you get no points for these stamps as you would for achievements in the original release. Which I'm fine with, I don't care about points and just use achievements as baseline goals.

This game is a masterpiece. This game successfully reinvented the original formula in such a way where the original gameplay wasn't touched
