Oh damn, just been rewatching a Chrono Trigger playthrough actually so this is perfect timing haha. I remembered being amazed how you could actually change time by fighting Lavos as early as you want. Chrono Trigger really defined just how expansive and filled out an RPG can be.
I had a lot of fun playing this as a kid. While this wasn't a particularly difficult game unless you did a challenge run I enjoyed the double/triple techs and time traveling.
My brother and I played this game tirelessly as a kid to get every last ending in the game! It was the best game of our time, and still is, in my opinion.❤
I’ve beaten this game for the very first time today! Now I’m just gonna watch all the different endings since I’m a gamer dad who don’t have all the time in the world to simply play this for all the different endings especially since I got a big backlog already haha!
God some of these endings are hilarious, and allowed to be since really you have to do the game out of order intentionally to get some of them. Love Chrono Talking for the first time, Frog marrying the Queen, and Tata actually becoming a hero. 1:15:04 Oh my god that's a reference to the Shining.
I believe it was added with the DS release of Chrono Trigger, as it also added some extra content that wasn't available on the SNES either. I only played the SNES version as a kid and know there were no cutscenes.
Y’know, I never thought I’d say this, but if they’re trying what I think they are, then I’m actually GLAD that the Fall of Guardia scene was removed from this release.
In relation to Chrono Cross, the Fall of Guardia wasn’t really all that important. My (and it seems many other fans’) issue with it was that it effectively sours the ending of Chrono Trigger, even moreso when it’s implied that Dalton of all characters was able to raise an army strong enough to destroy Guardia. Considering how poorly the Fall of Guardia was received, combined with how inconsequential it is in relation to Chrono Cross (outside of a line by Radius claiming Guardia isn’t peaceful, which even then, can be interpreted in many different ways), retconning it to have never happened would really only be a good thing. (Sorry for the paragraph, I just really don’t enjoy the Fall of Guardia, and I’ll grasp at any possibility of it being retconned any way that I can)
So I started playing the ds version. For some of the endings must I do a new game plus for all endings or can I just save and continue and then proceed?
You'll need to do new game plus for most of them as the Telepod's portal to Lavos doesn't appear until NG+ (stopping you from at least getting The Successor of Guardia) and while you have access to fighting Lavos the moment you reach the End of Time on a new game you really won't be ready to fight Lavos until likely after the Ocean Palace without serious grinding (Reunion and Beyond Time are more likely for a first playthrough). Story-wise you will be forced into a fight with Lavos in the Ocean Palace where beating it then and there will give the Dream Team ending but the shell has increased health and damage which will likely kill your entire party on the first turn on a first playthrough (this ending can also be achieved by defeating Lavos before going to 600 AD on NG+, so you'll fight with only Chrono and Marle if you opt for that way). If you get Reunion, then Beyond Time, and then do all the DS content on a first playthrough for that extra ending you'll blaze through the game on new game plus for the other ones and this video's timestamps tell you exactly when to fight Lavos to get each particular ending. @@CrankyTemplar yeah so far I have the one where I beat him without chrono, the one where I beat him with crono and magus and the one where I fight him with just crono and marle and just didn’t know where to go from there cause restarting the game at this point kinda far lol
Lol don't get me started on Final Fantasy 😂 I currently have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 7: Dirge of Cerberus, 8, 9, 10, 10-2, 12, 13, 13-2, 13-3, 15, Type 0, World of Final Fantasy & Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest + 3 of the movies. Still need to work on completing the collection 😊

I waited for Lavos to defeat him in our 1999 AD nothing happened no computer apocalypse too Maybe Lavos is Apophis in 2029 he's just a lil late :p

Does Beyond Time FMV is on future generations of consoles. Because back in the time I played with SNES and Emulator of SNES, there was no cutscenes

If a remake ever comes out I'll be excited to play it. This and FF6 are the two RPGs I remember fondly from my childhood.
While a remake would be killer, I was moreso implying that they might’ve attempted to retcon the Fall of Guardia out of existence.
