    Wouldn't be a BMW without a recall. Been going on for years but so many owners and dealers keep quiet about it. Tried once and never again.

    I bought a brand new r1250gs adventure last year. Just sold it and went back riding my old 02 1150 gs adv , which has never givin me an ounce of trouble all the way from Alaska to terra del fuego and many other trips. My new adv was nothing but trouble from the get go. BMW are making shit quality bikes now and charging through the nose for them !!

    I have a GSA which has never skipped a beat with nearly 30k in two years. I’m looking to change this year but the looks of the new GS and all the problems plus it’s smaller are making me concerned for the new adventure. I’ve also heard on another channel that the batteries malfunction at low and high temperatures. Two years ago I was in Italy and it hit 40c so I def do not want battery failure. Leaking gear boxes is another problem being reported.
    I love the BMW brand and my own bike but I’m now looking at the Triumph Explorer and Multistrada. I ride 2up quite a lot and the pillion seat on the 1300 is 3 inches narrower than the 1250.
    I think we all expect more of BMW.

    • @GPR111
      @GPR111 8 месяцев назад

      Think I will be moving to Triumph too if the awaited new gsa has gone the same route as 1300, its now a small "adventure sport" bike - fine for some but not what I want. On top of being ugly and rather cheap looking the problems are starting to show now enough of them are out there being tested (sorry I mean used !! 😉) Well, no doubt the problems will be sorted out but the new style and market direction are here to stay I fear. A lot of previous gs owners are similarly unimpressed but I guess that wont matter if the number of brand new customers take it up in great enough quantity but I cant see that at the price, I dont think BMW have 'nailed it' as some channels have been broadcasting... an all new 20k plus bike that smokes its starter relay if you get a duffer by chance.... no thanks!

    Still not seeing any 1300’s in California. Seems like something is going on. 3 BMW’s was my limit (89 K100RS - 117,000 miles, 06 K1200S - 8,000 miles, 08 K1200GT - 30,000 miles). Total cost of ownership was my greatest issue. Good luck. Cheers

      @GPR111 8 месяцев назад

      @@mojosdad68 yes and if its accurate they should be able to control that problem easily, but I have to say I wouldnt want any completely new bike for at least a year and this 13 reinforces my thinking. I wouldnt have one anyway as I think the 1250 is so good and is better in some key areas for me personally

    A bit shocking, to say the least. I just recently decided to trade my 2016 GSA in for a shiny RT, but that was for reasons other than the recall. Wish you many safe miles on your new precious.

    Bikes are so complex these days that I never take the first year of a new run. I'm happy to wait till they iron out the bugs. 54 of them needed their engines replaced because of incorrect torque settings inside the motor somewhere. Now this relay issue which could be catostrophic if it ends up torching the bike and the garage it sits in. Still BMW so far have been up front and let's hope they get what seems to be a real step forward sorted in this production year.

    A bit disappointing to deal with but BMW will take care of it. I remember when the new Multistrada was launched and several bikes needed to be recalled for possible metallurgy issues in the valve guides. Or when new Panigale’s were catching fire 😬. No matter how much testing a manufacturer does, there will be issues that pop up when a bunch of people start riding these things everyday.

  • @Firstnamejoe
    @Firstnamejoe 8 месяцев назад +2

    Listen, every single 1300GS the left the factory before Jan 16th needs a new relay.
    The initial recall, they thought, only affected 800 - 900 bikes but that was in nov and Germany and Austria only.
    Your dealership should have known that when bmw made the second announcement on Jan 16th that your bike was affected!
    Mine did, gave me a replacement bike, asked me not to ride my own till they got a relay. 3 weeks later my bike has had run in service and new relay fitted.
    Some dealerships for sure are being economical with the truth about this recall cause, it seems to me, bmw are struggling to get the replacement relays out to bikes already in circulation. Not good enough imo

    • @TheStammeringBiker
      @TheStammeringBiker  8 месяцев назад

      Oh I’m aware of the initial recall etc. my issue happened on the 15th of January so the dealer may not have been aware at the time my issue occurred.

      @Firstnamejoe 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@TheStammeringBiker yeah ur right. It was Jan 16th when they announced the current recall / service campaign. Funny it’s a recall only when they have the parts to fix the bikes, if not, it’s a service campaign and I wonder how many owners were actually contacted by their dealership or BMW directly to tell them of the potential danger?!

    And yet now there is another recall coming. This was what I was told yesterday at my main dealer. Apparently they are going swap the solid state relay for an electromechanical one. One chap had delivered his bike for a service and they were not allowed to give it back to him. I was told they would swap mine during a service I have booked in September. This recall was only issued yesterday.

    Everyone hollering how BMW is the best of the best. I tried a 1300. Wasn’t a bad bike. Definitely didn’t do anything better than a Pan America. Or any other ADV I’ve ridden (Just fanboys talking out their a**) in the end, I chose a Pan America. Felt better to me overall. 38k trouble free miles. That is, after I installed a lithium battery. The factory one is a weak piece of junk for these kind of bikes.

      Most first gen bike has issues. It’s why it’s best for it to sit on the market for a couple of years before you buy - having said that, my mates Paginale shit itself, and it’s more money then this. Or ask KTM owners. Or Suzuki DR owners with the NSU screws back in the day. Or AT owners with the fork recall. Get my drift? All bikes has issues.
