I found Jack the Ripper's fear and brutal takedown mechanic very neat, and wish it stuck around for the newer games. Altaïr and Ezio making enemies flee the battle is something I remember fondly about the old ACs, and this seemed like a natural evolution of that. The Assassins utilizing fear is really fitting; Hexe would be the perfect game to bring it back.

Adding to the tone of things feeling off the Rooks are the new Blighters in that they’re instructed to take you on on sight (there’s something wrong about the alert saying you’re in Rook territory), and this time you don’t have your own gang to fight them off, just prostitutes to lure distract them (nice callback to earlier games). Evie also becomes a wanted woman after assassinating Lady O, meaning there’s two parties you need to be careful of when navigating the areas. The dark atmosphere is nice and was missing from the base game, why the game mechanics contradict the tone so heavily, it just comes across as silly. I loved the mystery at the beginning but as soon as Evie checks out Jacob's house, it's pretty clear who is behind the Ripper's mask. It really ruins the ambiguity of his character to me. I think it shouldn't be revealed at all.
I know him as the recast David Collins from the Dark Shadows audios starting with Kingdom of the Dead, as well as being the guest actor in a couple with Kathryn Leigh Scott in the very early period of the range. His performance as the Sandman trying to assert his influence over Maggie is very creepy.

They could have revealed Jack the Ripper to be one of the historical suspects, or revealed ties to the highest echelons in society.
