  • If we had to pick one album from each year as our favorite, what would we choose? No easy task, especially when considering Heavy Metal’s golden era of the 1980s! What albums get chosen, and which classics do not make the cut? King Fowley returns to join in the fun and to update us on all things DECEASED… including their forthcoming album due out in August.

    I would be interested in you guys doing this with King for the 90's too. I bet he'd have a lot of interesting picks since he's not into a lot of the typical DM/BM classics.

    Anvil rules , Abominog Rules and Seventh Star Rules. Abominog and Seventh Star have a type of production that doesnt show the heavyness at first. However, after a few years and listens I fell in love with the Pete Goalby era Heep stuff. Anvil have been my personal favorite classic metal band for 25 years when I heard them at 16 years old. I love these debates. You guys all rule.

    I'm surprised that neither Alan nor King choose Cirith Ungol's King of the Dead for 1984. great show as always

      for me as i mentioned on show to be best its gotta be a perfect record start to finish. always was letdown by 'death of the sun' on the king of the dead record. so much better on m.m1. that said record is still fantastic.

    DECEASED... should have been permanent headliner status starting with Fearless. I don't know why the fuck that didn't happen.
    I would say starting with Blueprints, but I was accounting for the marketing behind Fearless.

    on a note about Anvil talk; I believe the story of Lemmy begging Lips to join Motorhead was a bit overblown by Lips. I knew a couple of crew folks kicking around Anvil & Motorhead at the time, for which they also say it wasn't really how that played out and that Lip's couldn't have lasted 2 weeks with Motorhead. How true? I don't know, just the side I heard from people around at the time.

    • @kingfowley9481
      @kingfowley9481 Месяц назад +1

      hard to say. i do know lemmy really wanted him at the time as losing eddie really got under his skin. lips was better off doing anvil and lemmy going with robertson who was great and did my favorite motorhead record. but obviously was impossible to work with. cheers

    1981... Fowley is right. ''Diary...'' , either you have run out of patience for Ozzyisms or not, remains in 2024 one of the most remarkable Hard and Heavy master works. But it's hard not to split your attention for ''Mob Rules'' (a fine record within the 81 context, because I think Heaven and Hell was more inspired, imho). On the other ranks, definitely Maiden and Saxon rule the year (plus plenty of backwater gems around the world you know...). In the late Spring, we got No Sleep til Hammersmith! What else could hope for? Well, maybe ''Welcome to Hell'', close to the end of that very good year.

    Black Zak and I once discussed what would be the perfect way to explain Heavy Metal to aliens we decided Heaven and Hell would be the way,so when it's first choice here I know this too is the way.
