I think this song is very important to Morissette. From now on there are three main versions in the world. The original version, the Mariah Carey like version and the Morissette version. Who ever arranged this song was genius and Morissette’s performance was flawless. No need to whistle or squeak. Just long phrases pounding the main melody again and again and doing little changes each time. The musicality of this performance is off the chart. A slow rock epic I think. ❤️

This version is Mori's and Mori's alone. She does not have to prove that she can do this or that a la Mariah or anybody. She just did it a la Mori! And it turned out to be my fave of all versions. (In fact, I shared it with my wife, kids, and grandkids for them to appreciate it too.

The most perfect arrangement of this song ever. Also one of the top 15 voices ever recorded. The best version of this song. Also of note, she sings the full song as it was written. Most leave out the verse censored by a slave culture in the 19th century. She is soooo much better here than when she tries to imitate Mariah in her other performances. In my opinion better than Mariah when she is herself.
She sings not to impress but to praise God. This rendition is truly divine and heart warming. Merry Christmas y'all!
If Morissette could have dramaticslly lighted One thousand Candles with Candelarias, All in white and with Christmas spirit and pointsettias, a ray of light in a Manger with Little Jesus in it and children around her in all White clothes with a message of Hope, Love snd renewal of faith, it could have created a very Holy message of Christmas to everyone. She sang it so well, so inspiring, so much of a God sent singer with Pure Angelic Voice, Its so pleasantly reverent.
I'm so touched that she's singing it to bring back the praise and glory to the One who gave her this talent

@@sryder8312 I looked this version up and the arrangement is extremely beautiful. I didn’t like morisette’s arrangement. I expected something softer yet majestic (arrangement wise) because she’s versatile. Nonetheless both voices are stunning.

I have a feeling I'm going to be listening to this version whether it's the Christmas holidays or not. For me, this has transcended being "just a Xmas song".
I'm not at all a religious person but listening to this must be the closest I could get to a spiritual experience.
I like this version compared to her other version of o holy night. This version makes you really feel the spirit of christmas. She has already proven us that she can do whistle, but not all songs require vocal cries, whistle, growl, etc. She sings her heart out
The fullness of her resonance is evident, even without a microphone. She knows how to maximize the resonating space of her vocal tract and mouth. This is what makes her special, in my opinion. She already has a beautiful, natural timbre, but it's amplified by her technique. The voice never sounds shrill or piercing even when she's singing high. The majority of pop singers mostly use forward nasal resonance, and then let the microphone do most of the work. Morissette can do that too, but as someone with knowledge pointed out to me (@Bruno De Marchi), Morissette opens her mouth to show her teeth, not just for aesthetics, but to use nasal resonance without sounding so nasal. There's a lot of intent in her singing. Very technical.

By far hands down the best rendition of this song ever. What I can't stand about the other versions is that the song becomes more about the vocalist and less about Jesus. This cover though by Morissette makes the focus totally Jesus. Morissette's vocals are so powerful and yet humble at the same time.

What makes this version one of (if not) the best version of the song is its focus on the lyrics - emphasis on the true reason for our CHRISTmas celebration. When Mori take a song, nothing can remain as it was before but what she did with this is something more: she literally deconstructed one of the most classic Christmas song to make it another thing, a worship rock song.
In the song Could you be Messiah, she interpreted all the doubts of a lost person, who seeks in religion a higher meaning of her existence. It's a theatrical, intimist text. In this song Mori doesn’t express any doubt, it’s a powerful statement, not about A TRUTH but about THE TRUTH.
It makes me smile when someone compare her version to others I’ve heard. I’m not saying that it’s better (for me it’s the best), it’s just another thing.
Let the versions of other artists be sung in shopping centers or Christmas specials on TV, before or after Jingle Bells.
Mori’s version can only be sung in a church.
