- Hear the story from Author Dave Dalton Thomas about how Waylon finally ended up performing "Luckenbach, Texas" in Luckenbach Texas.
I’ve been there, and it’s a cozy atmosphere. I love the hill country of Texas.
I was there! This is the first time Waylon had ever been to Luckenbach. 1995 Ray Price and Willie closed out the show by covering many of their songs and their album San Antonio Rose.
The next year… yeah it was hot as hell, I had to borrow scissors from Sheriff Marge, so my buddy could cut off his pant legs.
I saw Waylon at We Fest in 1988. He played before Willie, and we thought they would sing a duet, but Waylon announced they couldn't, do to record contracts. So, on Waylon's last song he imitated Willie's part and Willie opened with the same song and imitated Waylon's part.
For the record Waylon was not a drinker at any point in his wild days. Drugs yes, booze not, he says I believe in his book that he didn’t like the out of control feeling drinking provides.
👍
That’s pretty cool, I heard Waylon say in interviews that he had never been to Luckenbach, Tx… must have been pre ‘96.
Kind of like when I heard Glen Campbell sing Galveston in Galveston. TX in 2004!
What's your point?
You can tell you're not from Texas, Karen.
