Happy New Year to you both, and may 2023 be happy, healthy, and prosperous for us all. Great to start my birthday off with your new video - especially one about adobe homes. Now, those wood beams are nice, but I prefer the traditional vigas and latilla ceiling. Can't wait to see more of your adventures and progress at NPL. Cheers my friends.

We agree, we prefer the more traditional New Mexico vigas and ceilings.

Thane, Walt Lutz here, we own lot 36 in Deer Canyon, looking to start building in about a year. Any ideas/advice on the cost to build with adobe versus traditional wood framing?

I recently heard of a quote from a local builder to do a traditional wood framing and nothing fancy, it came in around $500 to $600 a foot. I know j recently got a quote from Morarity concrete (only place that delivers to DCP) and a max load of 10 yards was around $1500. I know pre-made adobes can run above $3.00 each. Though we had figured on making our own at the cost of renting equipment plus Portland cement. I wouldn't be surprised if you are hiring a general contractor I would think they both might be coming in north of $500/ft out here and of course will never qualify for financing. But if you do most of the labor yourselves especially with all the free dirt and cut corners on finishing materials you can bring it in much more affordable. We've seriously been thinking of cutting costs on flooring by using dies on the finished concrete and placing the pex pipe in the pour to use a less expensive boiler over forced air systems. Mr Cool for refrigerated air instead of a central air, etc. to keep construction costs down.

Also, I'm assuming you are still living out of state? If not the EarthBuildersGuild is hosting a tour of a collection of adobe homes on Albuquerques Westside. See details for it in the upcoming weekend, RSVP is by the 9th of March. See the middle of this page for details: www.theearthbuildersguild.com/

again- a potentially interesting topic made insufferable and unintelligible by inane and unprofessional speakers/narrators. can barely understand a word they said.
