It is also trying to bring people closer to nature, or vice versa: nature closer to people, by making them more involved with natural cycles and where their nutrients are coming from. Aboriginals of Australia and native tribes of the Amazon are some of the greatest permaculturists, with wealth of knowledge gained over the millennia, but they're being left behind by technologically advancing world around them.

Look up how countries in Latin America for eg were made into 'banana republics' by the US for the sake of cheap labor and rich natural resources. Continues today in the way of outsourcing labor (such as in the food/fashion/tech industries) to poor countries with weak labor laws eg Bangladesh, Cambodia etc.
Okay, part of this video seemed neat, the designs and such are cool. It would be really helpful if you wouldn't wait halfway through a video to give us an example of a permaculture setup. And in the example of the Purple Pear Farm you didn't say anything about how "each natural system feeds off of each other" which would have been really helpful. Also, you mentioned that the City Repair Project has ecologically minded projects that help reinvigorate local community relationships and the natural world" but you didn't give us any examples of how they helped do this, which makes people less likely to think that permaculture can make an impact.
I was watching a Wix tutorial when I heard about Permaculture. Absolutely brilliant! I even downloaded this video. It's exactly what I want to do with some kiddos I love.

These ethics and principles can be applied to agricultural systems, as well as community structures and even the organization of our individual lives. Its necessarily kind of abstract, but very effective when put into practice.
This is a great summary of Permaculture! Tis not easy to do. One gripe I've always had is with the 3rd core ethic of "fair share". Those two words do such a poor job on explaining the ethic. Though, "responsible and ethical redistribution of surplus" is a lot less catchy and marketable.

Agriculture is large scale cultivation of plants for practical use (generally in an industrial way nowadays, but this also includes organic farming.) I also heard and I don't know if this applies anymore because of polictics but I heard you literally get paid to live there.
So basically Permaculture is self reliance. Not relying on big corporations and or govt for your food and energy, while taking care of the environment. Back to basics....

What about people unable to grow as much food because of illness or disability? Would you be willing to support such people if they lived in the community you were in?

All food comes from the land and all water comes from the river. Trying to be holier than thou just muddies the water. And you forgot animal care. If you think you can still have animal exploitation in a "permaculture world ", you've already lost and are just repeating the same mistakes that got us here in the first place. And to think you can just imagine some bucolic world without understanding the problems of demand and world population, shows the reason why this will always be a pipe dream. Now if everybody started going plant based tomorrow, then I would say you might actually have a chance.
Actually quite dissapointed with this presentation. Permaculture, in its essence, is very very simple. But this whole video presents permaculture as some sort of highly intellectual pseudo science, which requires research and cerebral solutions to make modern sociological paradigms fit into the philosophy. Square pegs and round holes ! So lets rethink what permaculture actually is, and what it means. Permanent = everlasting. Culture = way of life. Where can we find an example of this ? Well, take humans off the planet, with all of its science, farming, civilisations, and societies, and what is left ? A self sustaining biological system which has developed and survived, not centuries, or millenia, but billions of years. Permaculture ! So, trying to develop a near perfect system, into the infancy of human ideas or society, like the mere concept of farming, or land management, is not only stupid, but profoundly arrogant. The "backward" uncontacted tribes of the Amazon, are many times closer to permaculture than you will ever be. So, how can we define permaculture ? It is simply this. To give back in equal measures, exactly the same as we have taken. Both in terms of matter and energy. A closed system, where the biodiversity and energy around you, are the building blocks of what you are, and what you are is repaid to the biodiversity and energy around you. If your whole body is composed from the biomass that you exist in, and you pee, poop, and decompose into the same system, it is closed. Isn't that what we do anyway ? you may ask. No it is not ! That is what nature does. What our species does is look to gain more than we put in. To profit from nature. To exploit natural resources to our species benefit alone. There is a name for this insanity. Usury. Capitalism. And that process is anti-nature. Anti life. And yes, in certain circles, against Gods plan !
Communism requires a permaculture (in practice anyway, unless you want to go full industrial, which is a valid form of communism but that's sort of not good for the environment), but permaculture does not require communism. Although permaculture heavily insinuates communism, because communism is how humans are naturally supposed to function.
