I can’t believe we got blue-balled so hard on Mother 3 and then immediately got Coconut Mall’d. Whoever edited this direct must’ve known what they were doing.
Don't they have to wait for Game Boy Advance Online?
@@Antasma1 nah. They could easily release it on the e shop or as a physical carriage and it would still be a best sellers. There's another reason they haven't published mother 3 (I was tempted to say "yet" but let's be honest mother 3s never coming out just go emulate it :))
@@scarlet7960 magypsy moment
I don't care about the Mother series in the slightest, but I was still mad at how the way they revealed it felt totally fitting for Mother 3 localization announcement to be tacked on the end, and then they just didn't.
@@majorhoolahan I didn't either for a while. in fact I haven't played any of the games only watched avgns video on it. But ya fans have had it running on emulators for over 10 it's pretty scummy of Nintendo to lock their old games behind an imaginary vault for no reason
Okay so I know you're obviously joking about the "Why do Xenoblade fans always get what they want" thing but the actual reason is that while it's a modest seller, it's Monolith Soft's best selling franchise so it's something they're able to continuously make while stuff like Pikmin is made by Nintendo so they're more likely to focus on their bigger franchises
Yep. Monolithsoft would figure out a way to keep making Xeno games even if they weren't owned by Nintendo.
Exactly. Arlo runs his own business, but it's funny how he doesn't get that every time he has to choose between a fun video and one that will perform well, Nintendo has to do the same thing with the games they make cause they too have limited time and output from their in house development
Is Xenoblade good ? I want to try it out but I just have this feeling that I might find it boring and waste my money
@@doodlebob8404 try it on an emulator
@@benjaminpevzner6261 on a switch emulator ?
“Xenoblade fans get everything they want!”
Every xenoblade fan, wondering if xenoblade X was just a dream we all had:
Let's be real though, how is X NOT coming to the switch at some point. The thought of 4 separate xeno games on the same console is too much for my heart to handle
Pretty sure it was a dream how do you know about that
been hanging on this Cliff for 7 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gears and saga are just a distant memory at this point
X was a dream all right. A dream I miss dearly
I think something Arlo needs to recognise is developers. Kirby and Xenoblade both have their own studios that *just* make those games, mostly (Hal does a couple of smaller titles and monolith helps Nintendo proper out with a bunch of their games) but mostly those are one franchise companies so that's why they keep happening.
Yeah but why do they attribute a whole studio to those titles above all else? Why is in the eyes of Nintendo, Kirby and Xenoblade important enough to have a whole studio when they are only modest selling titles? That’s what he is getting at.
@@chickenchipee2330 I don’t think it’s a case of Nintendo attributing any game to any studio in particular. Monolith primarily makes Xenoblade games because that’s what they want to do, and the games do well enough so Nintendo is fine with that studio making more Xenoblade games. It wouldn’t make sense to try and force Monolith to try and make something like a Pikmin or F-Zero game because that’s not what Monolith wants to do or has that specific expertise to do.
Also, it’s not like Nintendo bought Monolith and told them to only make Xenoblade games, Monolith was making Xeno-games long before Nintendo. Nintendo bought them and found their games to be successful enough to continue funding more games.
@@chickenchipee2330 What do you mean? They have their own entire studios because those studios made those games before being bought or those types of games
@@chickenchipee2330 Nintendo probably thinks each game could be a huge success. The games are very good. They have just struggled to get the spotlight
@@chickenchipee2330 That would probably didn't work for Monolith at least. Tetsuya Takahashi founded the studio to continue to tell his stories and the vision of the original Xenogears. If Nintendo were go somehow force them to do something else like working on new entrys to dormant Nintendo Franchises, a majority of the employees might not cooperate and leave the company all together.
They had the perfect chance to name the car ability “Carby”
Nah should’ve been Herbie
I was gonna say! 😄
Gonna clobba dat dere Carby
They would've done that if they had a localization squad like splatoon's
@@squidwardtortellini362 yeah you know what’s up
You know a great way to mitigate that feeling of being left out Arlo?
You should get into Xenoblade games
I never really felt like I was entitled as a Xenoblade fan until Arlo said “You guys get everything you want!” Which, yeah, the Switch has been very good to us. I think it’s maybe the universe cutting Takahashi a lot of slack over two decades of his storytelling getting cut short (or maybe the Monad smiles on him for spreading the word of Gnosticism, hmm)
The White Whale remains marooned on Mira… I mean… X remains marooned on the Wii U though.
I've been waiting for X to be ported for years now.... still waiting :'(
Honestly the inevitable X port is just a means to an end for me. X is one of my favorite games ever made, and some selfish bit of me likes that it’s hanging out there on a small selling system. Like it was my ultimate, highest reward for being a Wii U owner in uncertain times.
But I really, REALLY want X2 to happen someday, and an X rerelease of some kind feels like a necessary step for that.
There's probably not going to be another xeno game for the switch but if there is, it would probably be an x port. I don't see them making another completely original xeno game for switch, if even another one at all.
Gears and Saga are even more abandoned
Gears and Saga are for all intents and purposes defunct. Square still has Gears available to download, but I don’t think they’ll ever be interested in revitalizing it, with or without Takahashi.
The lack of any modern way to play Saga is bullshit and there will surely at least be a port of the trilogy, someday. But Bandai Namco hasn’t even wanted to do that, so I can’t see them picking back up either.
Xenoblade IS the Xeno series now. Takahashi is telling his stories there, doing his crazy giant robots and divinity legends, and I’m oretty sure it is all ultimately the same lore. Or as close as he’s legally allowed to get.
When it comes to Xenoblade, the reason it is going so strong is that unlike a lot of Nintendo franchises, there is one single big dedicated developer who operates within the Nintendo fold, who specifically focuses on that franchise. For instance, Sakamoto is the Metroid Guy. But he's just a guy. Every time they want to do a Metroid, they have to assemble a team to do it. That's why it took so long to get Samus Returns and Dread together, they had to find the right guys for the job. Xenoblade doesn't have that problem. Monolith Soft loves making these games, they sell enough to be successful, and the people who want to make them are plugged in there and ready to make them. You've got Takahashi who is the director, the writer, and visionary of the series. You've got Koh Kohima who produced a lot of them. There's the artist who did the character designs for 2 and is returning for 3. And there's the composers ACE and Yasonori Mitsuda, who are part of the whole thing. Xenoblade in that regard is just blessed by having all the people it needs to have together, willing, and ready to go, and there's a proven success record there.
Nintendo's also interested too because Xenoblade is actually a growing series. And a critical darling. Xenoblade 1 is often considered one of the best JRPG's of all time, and easily the best that came out of the 7th gen systems. Xenoblade X, while not scoring as high, was praised highly for it's an amazing world that was seamless, and I think it's fair to say that might've influenced later Nintendo games. Then we get to Xenoblade 2, and while it was mired in some controversy, the people who actually played it loved it and rave about it to this day. Nintendo does keep series going just cause people like it sometimes. Like with Metroid which is also in a similar spot where the hype is mainly with the fans, not with the sales. Then on the financial side. There's a story there. When Xenoblade 1 came out on the wii, it only sold about 800K worldwide when all was said and done. Then you went to Xenoblade 2, and it's over 2 million. And that was before super smash bros even put Pyra in the game. Now that she's in the exposure of the series has gone even further. The remake of Xenoblade 1? It was over 1.5 million, nearly double the first time around. And now the stage is set for 3 to take things even further having elements of both Xenoblade 1, as well as Xenoblade 2, but with a new cast and more polish than ever to make it something that old fans will want to play and new people might want to try. The stage is set for the biggest success the series has yet seen, and Nintendo pays special attention to titles like this with very high growth potential.
Also Monolith soft probably gets a degree of freedom in this regard because they do help with other big things. It's not really known or talked about by the wider Nintendo community, but monolith soft is like...the secret MVP of the Nintendo switch. Like seriously, it's crazy. Monolith soft worked on Animal Crossing, BOTW, and Splatoon 2. And they're going to also be working on Splatoon 3 and BOTW2. So that probably also goes a long way with affording them some freedom creatively as a sort of payback.
You are right. I remember reading that for a series that sells "just ok" (Metroid, Xenoblade...), there needs to be an internal push for getting new games while games that are blockbusters (Mario, Zelda, Pokemon...) will get games no matter what.
Monolith Soft clearly has enough internal push to get "B games" greenlight since, like you said, they already have an experienced team and they are a studio that helped with the development of multiple Nintendo games aside from their own games.
FZero, Kid Icarus and even Pikmin don't have that. Like, for Pikmin specifically, it was always from Myamoto but he seem to have less and less relevancy in the actual development of games in Nintendo as time goes on.
Fire Emblem Warriors isn't too big a concern for FE fans since it's likely a licensed Koei Tecmo game like all other Warriors, which means the prime FE team at Nintendo is likely still working on an actual FE game, and this is more of a stop-gap release to tide FE fans over until the next big mainline entry.
so what game is Intelligent Systems releasing this year
Its still sad tho xD
@@Silverlord-yc5bv Seeing how we've got Paper Mario in the past 2ish years, probably something mainline...
...or Doshin the Giant HD
I mean the rumours are that koei tecmo is helping with the next FE game like before
Exactly, I'm still hopeful for a regular Fire Emblem this year, or latest early next year.
The MK8D expansion is actually quite insane because it's essentially 2 games in 1 dlc regarding its size.
It's the biggest kart racer yet.
Eh
Remember that it does get released over the course of 2 years.
It sounds great on first glance but when you think about it, it’s rather disappointing
@@redlfclegend24 but 30 bucks for basically 2 games, even if it's not mk9 it looks pretty good. It would certainly shake up the game ALOT especially for the older fans..
@@MrMoon-hy6pn Surely it’s better than nothing but it basically means, that we only receive 8 more remade courses every 4 months, which isn’t all that great honestly. I would rather wait a year and enjoy 24 new tracks all at once.
It also implies that no other Nintendo system is going to come before 2024.
Honestly man, I adore Xenoblade, but I think the reason Xenoblade gets everything it does is that Nintendo has monolyth help them with every open world in their games.
@@HandlingSmilus Yep. Nintendo is repaying Monolithsoft for helping them develop MANY games for over a decade.
yup the guy who directs the games has been on record saying he has a big plan for the series overall and that's clear from 3. The team are also absolute dev wizards, putting out games so damn quickly despite the scale and quality of them.
I could'nt be happier, it's shot up as one of my fav videogame series now.
I think its less of Nintendo "repaying" monolithsoft, but rather that nintendo trusts them with open world games having worked with them for so long. I think they just genuinely trust the xenoblade IP like they do with their other core IPs at this point
And when xenoblade gets the sales to match, it kinda only makes sense to keep supporting them
plus xenoblade is the biggest franchise monolith owns so ofc they can kinda do whatever they want with the xenoblade franchise. i just hope they don't run it dry...
... also they're really really good
I think the massive output of Xenoblade games is because Monolithsoft helps Nintendo out with a lot of major first-party games like Zelda, Splatoon, and Animal Crossing. Doing all that probably helps them put a lot of funds into their own projects.
definitely, add the fact the xenoblade is like monolith soft's passion project/best seller and it's a no brainer that they would give the series this much attention
Arlo’s also taking the piss saying they’re modest sellers- XBC2 sold about 3M and DE about 2M, those are great numbers for a games like this.
They’re made by their own studio, they occupy an important strategic niche that Nintendo wants (same as why they promote FE) and for their genre they sell great. There’s really nothing to be surprised by at all.
@@jlcdavenport6268 Those numbers haven't been confirmed, but they're not too far-fetched.
Not just that. I’m pretty sure Nintendo is trying to make Xenoblade into a top tier selling franchise. Same with Fire Emblem. Both franchises are getting more and more popular and they want to realize that potential someday. It’d be great for Nintendo to have Xenoblade and Fire Emblem sell similar to the likes of Final Fantasy or Zelda (at least pre-BOTW)
@@wasabisniffles Yeah, I feel like Monolith hardly considers sales when making Xeno games, they’re just running on pure passion.
This might as well have been called "Nintendo makes every RPG fan scream in joy". So many amazing titles. Live A Live, Front Mission 2, Radical Dreamers, all getting official translations...
Live-A-Live is a favorite of mine. Front Mission as well. I'm stoked.
No Golden Sun though, which is what I'm really waiting for.
I still can't even realise how awesome this direct was for me as an RPG gamer... Just with Chrono Cross I have some issues how they treat the backgrounds, because this looks like crap
Wow I thought I liked RPGs but obviously not like y’all cuz I didn’t give a fuck about any of those games mentioned. Excited for earthbound tho

You know what I just realized. The Mario Strikers footage; each half of the field is different. They will probably let players their 'half' for each game, and maybe even customize it? That seems like a pretty neat idea.
Vaguely related, I had hoped for a Mario Kart 9 reveal with the ability to mix & match 2 courses with a portal in the middle.
@@nameforcomments4092 that’d be a really cool and unique idea
As a Xenoblade fan, I absolutely agree with you. If you count all the ports and spinoffs, we've had 6 games since 2012. That may not sound like much, but these games are HUGE. Like the kind of huge that makes it possible to not play any other games and just commit to this one franchise.
Now all we need is an X port and we'll be fed for life going forward.
@@TheFrostedfirefly That's actually what I thought this announcement was going to be at first, lol.
They're releasing more frequently then Zelda. Idk what Aonuma is doing over there.
@@mikeoxlong3676 Dude, I am so with you. 5-plus years to iterate on a massively successful title using the same engine and reused assets. The expectations are so tremendously high at this point, I'm doubtful Aonuma and his team can meet them.
@@mikeoxlong3676 I'm convinced MonolithSoft are just a bunch of wizards. They are constantly making huge games with high concept stories and engaging themes and excellent music, releasing relatively close to each other. Like, these games have as much content as an Elder Scrolls game, but they are released 3x as frequently (and are more polished to boot). It's bonkers how much passion and talent they have.
This was a really solid direct. But seriously, why did they wait so long for that Mario Kart DLC? I fully believe they wanted to do Mario Kart 9 but they couldn't ignore 8 Deluxe's sales numbers
I just hope the new courses are full expansions of the originals, and not just a new coat of paint... Because 48 courses is a lot!
@@28Pluto Additionally, I hope they add some free new items/vehicles/characters along the way, else it'll be difficult to maintain interest.
Two words: Smash Brothers.
Smash and Mario Kart are both those multiplayer Evergreen titles that sell their systems, and especially the case on the switch. Putting this alongside smash would make this seem like a shadow compared to guessing who will be in smash next. With Smash Brothers done with development, time to deal with Mario Kart (but after 5 years getting Mario Kart Tour map ports is... Questionable?)
Also, the fact it sold well without DLC is a testament to how popular this game is too on its own. Why not make more money off of a title over a longer period of time, right?
At this point, they're going to hold of Mario Kart 9 until the next console (2027)
I dont care when the next mario kart comes out as long as they take their time to make it the best it can be
I’m very happy about Strikers!
My inner child hood screamed

I’m skeptical, their last couple sports games have been kinda mid. But Next Level is a good studio, for the most part (we do not talk about Federation Force)

Live A Live is legit one of the best RPG's on the SNES. The remake has the potential to fix any of the little nagging problems it had, and is undoubtedly going to be the definitive way to play the game. I can't wait for it.
Really? I never played it because the experimental nature of it seemed boring. I don’t tend to like Vignette style jrpgs. I just want one big story. I want to play one character, or group of characters, from beginning to end. I don’t like having my control been taken away and having to start over again with new characters.
Live a live does Octopath a bit better. The solo prologues are longer, then the Avengers get together is a much meatier conclusion. There is a theme that ties all the stories story together better with a pretty emotional reveal.
I felt the exact same way about Saga Frontier's remake. I can't wait to see how improved Live A Live is.
I cant wait to play it for some more yoko shimamora music i havent heard yet
@@JazGalaxy If you haven't played it, nows definitely the best time, I assure you it's worth it. It's understandable why the experimental nature might seem boring to you, but the outstanding writing and characters will make up for it. I think this direct was strong. I understand why you would think otherwise but pretty much all the games was a hype reaction for me.

Last week I wanted to see if earthbound was in the snes nintendo switch online thing but saw it wasn't there so I just uninstalled it, now I'm gonna have to reinstall lol
Mario Strikers alone makes it a top 5 Direct for me. This game is gonna be huge in Europe!

Also did you even watch this video?
Klonoa was 100% the highlight of the direct for me. Door to phantomile was my first Wii game, and I never got to play 2, I'm so excited.
Not to be weird but it makes me really happy when I see someone be enthusiastic about Klonoa and their first game was the Wii remake. As someone that grew up with the ps1 original and ps2 sequel being some of their most favorite games of all time and those being pretty...unknown by most people, I'm so glad the Wii remake was able to touch a new generation.
IT was a little lackluster for me personally, I wasn't a fan of Klonoas redesign and changes they made to the game and how dingey the colors were, but it was so amazing it got made anyway and now this remaster looks so ridiculously amazing! Cheers to enjoying these games and for you to be able to experience the sequel now too!
I like how Arlo acknowledges how “fans” are excited about something and says how cool that is for them. Even if he’s not excited about something subjectively, he objectively points out how it looks good and might be good for big fans of that IP/Style of game. Versus just downplaying something because it isn’t his cup of tea
Yeah. And you can tell he's genuine about it too. Some RUclipsrs will say they're happy for the fans and then turn around and trash on the games constantly. Arlo's very considerate in acknowledging that it's just not his cup of tea. And that's ok.
Facts!
@@Flomen01 me and my wife have been noticing that a lot too. Glad other people are picking up on it.
Strikers left me on the FLOOR. How often do you ask Nintendo for something and get EXACTLY what you wanted!? Xenoblade 3D shaped not only my view on RPGs, but (as weird as that may sound) also me as a person. Xenoblade 2 was a worthy successor and the first game to make me cry, even though it was through its soundtrack. Xenoblade X was a flawed but truly magical and engaging experience I hope to get on the Switch some day as well. Definitive Edition was a dream come true. And yesterday, I cried at the trailer of Xenoblade 3. So glad to be a fan.
Well, a specific Welsh Cat is returning. We know that much.
If you don't, play the other Xeno games: Xenogears (probably the most complex game ever made so watch state of the arc podcast about this game to get a compreensive explanation of it) and Xenosaga (1, 2 and 3... 3 is awesome). It's not oficial but they're all connected. Really, I can even tell the chronological order they happen.
Still curious on when we get an X port for Switch
This series is so frustrating for me. The character design, art, and story are all right up my alley. But the not-quite-turn-base not-quite-action combat combined with the bad voice sync makes it soooo hard to get into.
Let’s see:
✅ Breathtaking open environments designed by the team who helped work on Breath of the Wild’s
✅ An engaging, rich story with great characters in an immersive setting
✅ A variety of things to do
✅ An absolutely gorgeous soundtrack
With BOTW 2 delayed to next year, I think it’s time for Arlo to play Xenoblade and see why we got so excited about the announcement at the end. 🙂
Arlo should give Xenoblade Definitive Edition a shot. I think he would be pleasantly surprised. That way he wouldn't have to be salty at the hype but become a PART of the hype!
As a xenoblade fan, this direct has me absolutely overjoyed. I really hope more people (hopefully arlo too) play this one, because xenoblade truly deserves it.
Loved XC and XC2. Both were great games and I can't wait for 3
I'm someone who has played Xenoblade 1 and X and really wanted to like them, and I can say that I will probably play this one... if they improve the gameplay; I love the worlds, stories and characters in these games, but the gameplay generally feels like I'm playing a boring MMORPG by myself, especially because of the MMORPG-like combat. I was able to finish Xenoblade X thanks to its fantastic exploration, but I had to give up on Xenoblade 1 sometime around the Fallen Arm.
@@matthewmuir8884 ya I regret buying the first one. Was not at all a fan of the gameplay although I appreciate the love that went into making the game and it's cool to see it out of Japan. Still though I wouldn't push Xenoblade on casuals.
If the strong point is the story and music, might as well watch the story bits on RUclips and skip the tedious battles
I haven't even able to beat xenoblade chronicles for the 3ds so far, it's like it's I'm missing out 😥😞
@@matthewmuir8884 2's combat (although horribly explained by in game tutorials) is a lot more engaging. I had similar problems with 1 where it was a fantastic experience but I hated the combat cause it was so boring. 2 has one of my favorite combat systems period, but it's horribly explained and confusing in game (chuggaaconroy and Enel have great guides), and 2's voice directing is generally atrocious (with some good moments) that kinda bog down the story's enjoyability. I also loved 2's characters more than 1, but that's purely opinionated. I haven't played x so i couldn't tell you.
Based on the weapons I saw in 3's trailer, I'd be willing to wager it'll be a combat system more akin to 2 hopefully without the confusion and gacha system.
For 16-bit JRPG fans, this may have been the greatest Direct of all time.
Yes i remember legit dropping my device when i saw live a live
@@finnvaneekelen4966 Somebody at Square-Enix must really be familiar with their back catalog. You not only have that game and “Front Mission” from this Direct, but they also remade “ActRaiser”. AR isn’t all that obscure (it was actually fairly popular), but it’s a franchise that had been dormant for so long that it wasn’t even public knowledge who held the copyright. Enix published both games when they were originally released, but they didn’t develop them, and their developer just kind of disappeared one day. No bankruptcy, no press release, nothing. Those of us who cared about the game thought it was lost to time, so imagine our surprise when the remake was announced.
Live A Live, Front Mission, Actraiser, Dragon Quest 3 coming sometime in HD-2D version, and now Chrono Cross as well and the pixel remakes for the classic FF games... though it's not ALL good vibes since I see some saying that fans are still producing higher quality AI upscaling than SquareEnix, and the pixel remasters will hopefully launch for consoles once they're done on mobile / PC...
But still- it feels like we're seeing really strong efforts from SE to actually make use of their backlog of IP's, and I am LIVING for it. Maybe HD-2D Bahamut Lagoon could be a reality soon? Remade Vagrant Story? So many possibilities!
Me, as a huge Xenoblade fan, absolutely loved the part of you being jealous of how we get everything we want lmao Monolith Soft is the best!
9/10: I'm just amazed by how many different cool games (especially JRPGs) we got, and the pacing was great too - no cheap filler stuff!
The solution is becoming a Xenoblade fan. So you'll be happy too.
Yes, join the cult everyone! :D
As somebody who hasn't really played much of the Xenoblade Chronicles series, I'm stoked to see it come this far based off their underdog origins of being released in the western market.
Yeah Arlo's reaction kind of puts things in perspective lol. I mean at first I was thinking, "well it's not that special, cuz by the time XC3 comes out it'll be almost 5 years since we got a proper entry to the series", but really, in the meantime we got:
-Torna, a gigantic prequel DLC for XC2
-Remaster of XC1, including cut content made into Future Connected
-Pyra and Mythra in Smash
Which is incredible considering they weren't even going to localize the original XC on Wii until Operation Rainfall. For a still relatively small series, that's wild.
@@joeydestructo how is Xenoblade relatively small. They have 2 characters on smash bros and the games on switch have sold really well (and would sell better if they actually restocked Xenoblade 2 copies)
@@scarlet7960 in terms sales it's still fairly small. According the last official numbers, there were only around 6 million total sales between all releases of the main games, which is less than a series like Monster Hunter can quickly pull with just one game (Rise is already almost at 8 million). Now Monster Hunter didn't get a character in Smash - but Xenoblade is published by Nintendo and is Nintendo exclusive, so that's why it gets preferential treatment there. Even Metroid has never had a game reach 3 million until Dread, but of course Samus was in Smash from the beginning, being a Nintendo character.
Still, you're right that objectively it's pretty big. XC2 is probably still somewhere in the top 40 best sellers on Switch, which is nothing to sneeze at, and Smash was undoubtedly a huge boost to it's popularity.
@@joeydestructo This comparason is kinda unfair but it puts stuff into perspective. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold more last year only than the lifetime sales of XC2, the most popular game on the series.
I can use this comparason for a lot of things. MK8D sold more last year (again, only counting sales between march2021-january2022) than Metroid Dread too.
In regards to Xenoblade it's because they have a dedicated team for that series. The series's we rarely see are because they don't have a steady team to champion them. I really enjoyed this Direct. I'm just happy we got to see games that are releasing relatively soon. I'm tired of hearing about games that will release "one day".
I liked this direct a lot. Its funny how the mother community getting something is just them getting the two games that have already be released, re released again with no changes. I really really wish Earthbound could get a remake from the ground up in a clay artstyle
While not the best fit for Zelda (arguably), the Awakening remake's style would be perfect for Earthbound. It's very close to Earthbound's concept art.
I'd love a Mother 3 remake in a clay style too. At this point I wouldn't mind at all if they significantly change the Magypsies. More people need to experience the story of Mother 3
@@spencer1531 I don’t think the magypisis are the main issue, the suggestive hot spring scene with Ionia, as well as the design of the villager Reggie’s design (Not the NOA president) are the main things I think need changed. he shouldn't be jealous tho considering monolith has been Nintendo's backbone for years now and gets nothing but hate or dismissed by the majority on Nintendo fans. Gotta say this is one of the best directs for me in recent years. A lot of games I wanted for the Switch are actually coming, which includes the Switch Sports! Crazy...
Sounds like Arlo just needs to play a Xenoblade game to see where the hype is lol
There's a lot of nintendo fans that need to, judging by the surprising amount of people I'm seeing that say "oh, xenoblade? Don't care" or imply it's not worthy of closing a direct.
As someone whose favorite game is Xenoblade 1, and 4th favorite game is Xenoblade 2, I agree that we've been eating really good during the Switch era, literally the only additional thing we could ask for is a Xenoblade X Switch port. Then again, the games easily deserve this level of love from Nintendo with how good they are, and especially with how much Monolith Soft helps them out with other, more mainstream IPs.
If the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 trailer ended with the words "the Legend of Zelda," Arlo would be squealing and freaking out.
Because it says "Xenoblade" he instead says "not for me."
Everything Arlo wants to see more of from Nintendo games (large 3D open world exploration, greater emphasis on ambitious storytelling, unique characters and enemies and races, meatier game mechanics, just more risk-taking and less calculated business decisions, etc) is present in the Xenoblade series. It's almost everything he always makes videos asking for.
Should you care more about what games are mechanically, or arbitrary things like "what series does this belong to?"
What does it matter if Xenoblade games were called "Zelda" or Zelda games were called "Xenoblade." That shouldn't be what matters or what stops you from playing a good game.
You should give xenoblade a shot it’s really a great series. If you love breath of the wild you would enjoy that in xenoblade you can just get lost in exploring the world like breath of the wild. Also there is a good story and gameplay.

@@Matpermad No I haven’t because I have no interest in playing the series from what I’ve seen. More power to you and all the other people who like it though.
My theory on why Xenoblade gets this preferential treatment from Nintendo despite not being a platinum seller franchise is because Monolith Soft just pulls so much weight for Nintendo as a whole, and has done so ever since Nintendo first acquired them. Here's a list of the games Monolith had a hand in developing:
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Pikmin 3
Legend of Zelda: Link Between Worlds
Splatoon
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Splatoon 2
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Their forte tends to be in level design, especially in regards to open world games, so I feel like Nintendo lets them pump out Xenoblade to their hearts' content as way of saying thanks for the massive wealth Monolith has brought them by assisting in their in-house projects.
Wow I had no idea they helped with all of those titles! I knew botw only. They're very dedicated
Salutations fellow Pyra fan!
Nah, the reason is RPGs are easier to produce. Not to say the games are lazy, but they can reuse a lot from 1 & 2.
It would be cool to think Nintendo let's it's developers make games as a "reward" but that isn't how companies work.
@@scarlet7960 I don't think that's necessarily true. If rpgs were so easy, pokemon games wouldn't look so terrible, given how many assets they get to reuse between games. And I don't think it's a "reward" either.
Mainly it's cuz Monolith still holds their own independence to work on whatever project they like, but I think their usefulness to Nintendo gives them a leg up when pitching their games for approval of publication.

This was one of the strongest directs I’ve seen in a LONG time. My friend group is so happy. Nintendo has fed us well.
This is why Directs fascinate me. I thought this Direct was kind of boring, but I think that's just because I don't really care about sports or JRPGs. But if you're a fan of JRPGs, like lots of folks are? Then yeah it would have been super hype. Really puts into perspective how wide and varied Nintendo's audience really is, especially when any given Direct will have half its viewership proclaim it "the worst one yet" because it didn't appeal to their own tastes in the extreme.
@@swishfish8858 see I don’t even like JRPGs. I was excited about Kirby, Splatoon, new Mario Kart tracks, Nintendo Sports, Mario Strikers, and Portal.

I think monolith soft is a crazy company at Nintendo making soo many xenoblade games and I love to see it as long as quality is held high
For me the issues with Switch sports are less so the missing Mii's, though I would have wished for it to be Mii's only, but the overall downgrade compared to Wii Sports Resort variety in sports and the absolutely unacceptable replacement of Wuhu-Island. I love that small island! Not only were the free-roam sports super cool, but it helped build a story and relation with a place. Since Pilotwings the Island has evolved with every title and became more and more beautiful. Expansions with outer islands like wedge island or upgrades like caves and such were such cool concepts. I really wanted to see Wuhu-Island in HD and maybe fly over it again... Or jetski or cycle or play swordfights on the bridge above the waterfall or do archery at the beach of play disk golf up from the volcano.
I love me some variety and choice in my sports, especially when I can "feel" them being in an interconnected world. It's sad enough that we lost HUB-Worlds as a concept in games like Mario Odyssey.
They really packed alot into this direct and it was great! Was hoping for sone Zelda or Metroid Prime news but Mario Kart, Earthbound and Switch Sports are exciting
Either that stuff is released later this year or early next year.
I noticed when they did the volleyball demo the creators were in mii form so I’m guessing they just decided to do premade characters for ppl who don’t have time or don’t want a mii but I guarantee you can switch to one in the game.
This direct was so awesome! Can’t wait to get back into Mario Kart 8! XD
On the subject of Fire Emblem though, I think the general consensus is that this will be another alternate timeline where certain characters are saved by the end like Jeralt, and this potentially is the story some of us, myself, included have been waiting for; a Fire Emblem Three Houses story where everyone works together in the end and they all actually survive and get a happier ending.
And then everyone will complain about it as it becomes something like Revalations.
When that happens, I shall be sitting in the corner with my bag of popcorn.
I will say that I love them adding dlc to the expansion pass. It does add a lot of value for me and my friends personally
Yeah, personally I don't see how this is a problem. It is, at least, making the tier more attractive to people. The value does go up.

I just hope that they improve the gameplay for this one, especially for the combat. And that's coming from someone who really enjoys Warriors games and own 4 on the switch alone. Not going to lie it was kinda devastating. But... hopefully there's a mainline FE down the line somewhere.
Ya warrior games are fine but there all kinda the same. Considering fe already has a warriors game on switch this was a little disappointing. I'm not much a fe fan, I thought the gimmick in the og on that where the characters talked to you, the player, was cool and original but didn't amount to much.
Considering advance wars and triangle something are coming out, it makes sense to not release another game in that same genre
My perspective is that you have to hold out faith in your heart that a new main series game is coming. And if faith doesn't work for you, rely on logic instead. Intelligent Systems has been quiet for a long while. There's no way they're just sitting on their hands. More likely, they just don't have anything to show just yet. Whatever their next project is, I'd be shocked if we don't hear about it by the end of the year at least.

@SNES Nes i dont know about you guys but for me this chrono cross looks straight up ugly. Also the choppy framerate from the video really doesnt help. Hopefully it looks nice in person.
@SNES Nes a lot of the ps1 games that are sharpened up looks worst to me than the ones running in an actual ps1. But I do get what theyre going for, you can only do to much with the graphics without doing a graphics overhaul.
I am saying this to you as someone who got Chrono Trigger Christmas 1995, so you go in with measured and dashed expectations regarding cross. Prepare for intense disappointment if you're expecting a big sequel to trigger. This game barring a few references, and callbacks bears almost no similarities to Trigger. The gameplay is completely different, the structure is completely different, the plot is complete fucking wackadoo nonsense, and the numbers don't mean anything in combat. I'm happy for you I really am, but this game was such a fucking disappointment. I wish I could tell you otherwise.

Dude me too
Literally just finished his watch and thought the same thing. Perfect timing
I'm so happy that we are getting Klonoa back. Now we just need a new entry.
I’m gonna respectfully disagree about DLC on the Expansion Pass. I do think it adds a lot of value and I like this approach - especially if more keeps being added. It doesn’t keep non NSO from enjoying the content (they can still buy it) and for those who have it it’s a nice perk. The cost of AC and MK DLC are already at the cost of NSO for a year if purchased separately and there’s likely more they will do. All they need to do is improve the online in general, and I think it could make their online a viable service.
Yeah, I am flabbergasted at the statement of thinking it is a bad thing to add it. And I say this as someone who isn't subscribed to the expansion pass. Why on earth could you possibly say an addition is a bad thing?
Basically, Arlo hates that NSOEP costs more and hates that Nintendo is including DLC free for members to incentivize people to get the expansion pack.
Our blue Muppet has weird takes sometimes...
It's such a weird take. I wouldn't even call this is an additional incentive, since getting DLC was kind of the main bullet point of the expansion pass to begin with. I know a lot of people see the N64 games as the main thing, but I really think getting DLC for no extra cost is going to be the real value of it going forward. I'm just worried they're going to make exceptions here and there. Kind of waiting to see if they'll continue this with whatever DLC Arceus gets, and BotW 2 eventually.
Do you lose access to DLC if you stop paying for online?
I don't have Mario Kart so to me the DLC inclusion adds no value to the Expansion Pack.
I'm really hoping in Xenoblade 3 they let us switch party members in the middle of battle like in FF7R! I love all the Xenoblade games and I feel like this mechanic would work so well in the Xenoblade series
that would be soo gooood
Torna sorta did that already.
@@dantelawrence4676I know they had the vanguard/rearguard system in Torna but that isn't quite what I meant.
In FF7R you can switch to whatever party member is on your left or right to control the entire party whereas in Torna you can only swap to the blades assigned to the driver. Like imagine if we could also swap to different drivers in the middle of battle as well!
That being said if they fused FF7R combat with Tornas that would be the greatest combat system ever imo!
