Fun Fact: I made the revolving CRAM cannon for the Rook (and the name). I actually made a whole vehicle around that weapon which was much more compact (I called it the Rook 'cuz it looked kind of like a flying version of the chess piece), but only the weapon made it through un-modified because they apparently wanted really whimsical-looking air vehicles despite everything else the Onyx Watch has being rather austere. I think my name's on a sign somewhere in the current Rook.
I've yet to encounter one in the campaign. :(

Awesome! It's my go-to vehicle for testing my active defenses! If I can stand up to a couple of Rooks, I consider it a success!

With the devs adding variable writers/readers to breadboards, it is now much easier to attach small local breadboards to weapon systems, rather than having a central board to command your entire craft.
I'm currently experimenting with adjusting the power level of a plasma gun based on the enemy's tangential velocity.

Yes it was changed, it was either the advanced cannon update that gave us multiple cooling splitters and changed the cooling direction requirement or the next one that gave us the maximum shell module limit. It was one of those two im pretty sure. To simplify, the gun Tetris update changed the gun Tetris lol.
However, the clip did have to be placed on a face that could normally accept an ammo input feeder. If you feel like you're missing something it's probably that, not that it matters because it doesn't work anymore!

Arranging the 5-clip part into a 3-thick T makes it a lot easier to tetris with. (Includes all 6 input feeders)
Generally still leaves a lot of space (with smaller radii), but it's only vertical, so it's easy to work with

Hi Borderwise. Yes, I've seen 5-clip tetris put to good use in DP CIWs applications. Part of the benefit for it is that it has 0 downtime, so although the firerate is lower than beltfed, it will always be firing, either at shells or opponents. It also bases the firerate on the intakes rather than the autoloaders, so there's no downside to over-including them. The tetris gets funky for 5-clip, but utilizing connectors rather than coolers will lower the overall cost, which adds up across multiple turrets. The economy game in FTD is secretly super-important; the more you can do with less materials, the better you're doing at war. ^_^ Imho, beltfed is perhaps better for pure CIWs, while 5-clip is better for DP CIWs, due to the tradeoff of firerate vs downtime.

Hey Borderwise? Two years ago, Lathland made a 5 MILLION DAMAGE cram cannon. I was wondering... Are you up for a challenge? Build either a cram cannon or RAIL APS that meets or exceeds 5M damage per shell, and build the ship around it. Bonus points if you can build the UNSC PILLAR OF AUTUMN or any other UNSC ship from Halo...

Back in days you actually can make a 6-clip tetris for all autoloaders except 1m ones.
And yeah, there is better 1m tetris.

5 clip is easily used much like 4clip with ejectors it has the same profile so you would make a gun for it in the same way that bottom clip doesn't need to have an intake on it so long as there are six intakes for that loader assembly you are good so it can be decently easy to use@@BorderWise12

i don't know if my original reply worked but 5clip has the same footprint as 4 clip with ejectors so it isn't to bad to use

  • @ryokkeno
    @ryokkeno 4 месяца назад +1

I was not aware that you could place a 5th clip and it would count.
As for what use it could be, in that form i'm not sure i would go with something that size for what its outputting(referencing the first turret). Yes, its looks about functional for a small support weapon, but its a big footprint for what your getting you could get so much more for the same space. My micro CIWS turrets are 20mm and with that much space i could reach the shell spawn limit easily, with a pure kinetic system.
Tipped with a heavy head which for a 12 piece shell with a heavy head, fin stab, and tracer runs you about 85 damage a shot at 19.8 AP using two belt fed loaders for about 9.4 shots a second per 2x3 footprint, enough to handle about 3 launchers worth of small or medium missiles (if not reinforced) pretty handily if their launched from at least 1000m away(the range i set for most of my small ship CIWS). 5 of those his the shell cap pretty quick so i prefer to upsize to 30mm since kinetic AP and shell speed stays consistent if you don't change the layout(damage is the only thing that goes up). But that's a tiny turret, and while its not dual target change the head to AP and add some rail and the round suddenly is almost 60AP, meeting your kinetic DPS(without any of the chaser).
Your second version i think is a bit more promising as the turret is small but is firing a respectably dangerous shot that for early game small craft or in volleys could do some decent damage especially if supported by other weapons. The fact that its so cheap and fits on tiny craft too could easily support drone swarms or just really tine craft that could actually hurt craft significantly more expensive then them

Borderwise you can stack 5 clip tetris the same way you stack 4 clip tetris, you make that 3 high cross pattern from a top view and then you can it wide instead of tall, or wide and tall and take advantage of the volume vs surface area relationship, that is if you want a big gun, i reccomend taking a look at some of the brrt 5 clip guns in mentis tournament because out of every one i know those people will do it well

So you have these 3x3 pillars with coolers along one edge. Could you paste another one of these columns and merge them at the corner with the coolers? That results in a 5x5 footprint with more space for recoil absorbtion and rail chargers. You could add more of that merged thing and tesselate it into a round shape to reduce that recoil/charger space to loader ratio. There probably is a perfect sweetspot for a really cost efficient low gauge maximized pure rail gun.

if you going for a 3/3/3 deck gun aps belt feeders are your friend for any shell smaller than 100mm.
but any higher gauges I suggest a 3/4/3 with normal auto loaders.
I might post a fortress with the guns I'm talking about some time in the future.

Makes me wonder which one would be better? a 5 clip 1m autoloader or a chainbelt? BTW Borderwise, can you please remind me how to make APS shotguns? I mean, which slide number i need to set for the angle of the frags? And I wonder if shotgun can work as anti missile?

I see you're taking a leaf out of Lathrix's book when it comes to video intros. "Biblically accurate guns", perfect.
It seems like an interesting and unique tetris option. I'll attempt to science it out in my own free time.
