It's so true about losing a part of your personality when you speak another language and you're not confident. I still get nervous talking to my tutor and my head just forgets vocab!

Charlo yes I felt the same way when I started speaking English. I felt like I wasn’t myself... but with practice you get more confidence and the stress goes away. So keep up the good work and you won’t forget your vocabulary anymore 😉💕

This is actually so much more interesting and helpful than I first assumed it would be lol! Cuz at first I wasn’t very interested in hearing random actors try to speak French, I was thinking hearing natives was best etc. BUT this helps! I’m realizing a lot of little details you explain in these are things that would never really come up with just hearing native speakers, and having different examples is great. Please keep ‘em up lol!

    • @MyFrenchStory

Illuminata Ilhuicatlamatini thank you for your comment. I agree with you! It is actually very informative to listen to non natives speak French because you can pick up certain mistakes and then come up with Tips to improve your French. It is also entertaining at the same time. So it is a win win 😊🇫🇷

So true about humor being harder in many ways in secondary languages, however I feel like a different version of one's self is expressed. He really seems to be a good guy, very approachable and laid-back! As to his French, it is actually pretty good and fluent. I can tell he is not native, because of a slight accent and errors here and there. That said, you can tell he learned the language partly in France as there is definitely a French touch in the way he talks! Keep up the good work Brad ;)

Yeah, I even heard that you kinda attain different personality/ different you, with different language😁 As for me I feel more...open while speaking in english. Its not my first language but the way that I learned english and some of the cultures coming from movies or books or songs that I've consumed in the past kinda grew within me in the way that I bring myself more outgoing compare to my more reserved self while speaking in my own language..does that makes sense? 😂
Anyway, a very good job with the video! Thank you so much for giving us a very entertaining (and still educating) video. I couldnt stop grinning from ear to ear to while watching his interview as well girl! 🙆

I am lucky to be French by birth...You should know that French is hard for us to learn. We go through 5 grade levels (5 years) in primary school to learn conjugation and grammar. We spend 5 years learning French in primary school, not counting kindergarten (3 years). Then middle school (4 years) during which we continue to learn conjugation and grammar.
So be patient and listen to the advice of this charming young lady. You will get there with a lot of practice. You should know that English is not easy to learn for French speakers either.

You should react to Candice Bergen speaking French, if you can find an example. She had a French nanny as a child and she was married to French director Louis Malle. She did a commercial in French once and she sounded pretty authentic to me. Jane Fonda speaks French and was married to French director Roger Vadim. She and Jodie Foster are the only American movie stars who do their own dubbing in French.

i kinda get the mistakes bradley cooper made with the pronouns. he was using an english word order... the french pronoun going before rather than at the end is something i still have trouble with producing it doesn't feel natural for an english speaker. thank you for pointing it out its a good way for me to study and keep practicing. and Bradley Cooper is HOT in english but especially in french Lol

    • @cherie0882

Also “chocolat” is so close to the English, I get confused with the vowel sounds. Lots of words that are very close to English will trip me up. Then a French person throws an actual English word in a French sentence to be cool and my brain short circuits lol

I think his American accent is very pleasant. I just can’t stand when some Americans (and I am American) speak French with a super strong accent, like they’re not even trying. They just replace all the French sounds with American ones. That makes me cringe badly. I like it when it sounds like people are at least putting in some effort to sound French

Really?! An American accent in French is cute??? If this is true, I wish I had heard it when I was 11 years old first trying to learn French. Here, in the US, all we ever hear is how intolerant the French are of Americans and their bad French and bad accents. This is in reference to Paris, of course. Outside of Paris, we are told, not so bad, or even that people are grateful that you are trying. BUT: I have never heard that an American accent can be cute! CUTE! So, thank you for that, Pearl. Thank you thank you.
