This game is really starting to come together. I'm so happy to see better vegetation! Do you plan on changing how the red weed looks aswell?
This new vegetation engine allows me to do some pretty cool things with the vegetation universally like snow, red weed effects, and more like burning and being dented by people or vehicles. Really cool stuff I'm excited to implement.

I always dreamed of making a game of War of The Worlds, now I don't need too, you've done it for me! Absolutely fantastic work! I love the effort you went to including so much from the movie! Thank you so much for bringing it to life!
Had some ideas myself and I totally respect you may not do them, but I would absolutely love it if there was the movie-moment where the landscape is full of Red Weed and Earth looks like another planet. And what if you randomised the time aliens survive for, and in some cases we get to see more of their plans for Earth than we saw in the movie - more alien machines, vegetation and buildings.
Love ur ideas; plus there may be no point in this, but I'd Love to see just some of what their world looked like (buildings, lifestyles, environment). Didn't they come here cause their world was dying?
Great point I think u touched on by randomizing how long each one survives our viruses. Not every alien would/should die at the same time just like humans; some of us are resistant to deadly strains of whatever. And some of them should recover becoming an even bigger threat to us humans. 😀
So this looks so so so good. A few things. I recommend changing the horn of the tripods back to how it sounds in the film. I feel like there is no need to change something that is already so perfect. I also hope you add more destructive effects when it comes to buildings and the tripods. Like if the tripod walks through a town it destroys it. That would be dope. But other than that this looks awesome and I cannot wait for it’s release.

Yeah, I think for the regular tripods the film horn is just fine. Maybe that uber tripod could use a different sound but the older horn is a lot scarier.
We have an array of over 30 different horns at different pitches, speeds & sounds. We're not trying to use any horns directly ripped from the movie for obvious reasons.

Yes! I was waiting for an update like this and it looks absolutely amazing. Really good vegetation movement and I'm definitely guessing there will be a rework on how red weed looks and I hope to see snow and other weather conditions added like light to heavy rain fall. Keep up this amazing work, I love seeing this game evolve.
This is some of the best development cycle for a game I have seen. You have done so much, and so much done professionally, that you should be proud of your accomplishment.
Dude, your doing a amazing job, I've seen a few people trying to make war of the worlds games but this, this is truly where it's at, keep it up man, we're all proud of you, also if there is ever voice acting chances or even just chatter from civilians or military personnel I'd 100% would do it for free

I think it'd be easier to do speech bubbles like most RPG games have, voice lines can get messy especially if there isn't serious money behind them, could end up sounding like Oblivion NPC dialogue.
I like the idea of hearing Military Radio chatter talking about current efforts to push them back, and it ultimately failing. I also think NPC dialogue should be more like monologue, a silent protagonist player but enemy survivors who want what you have could attempt to attack you and would have voice lines to communicate with each other or to taunt you or try to get you to surrender. I think other people should be another threat in the game it would add more depth, and in towns you may not hear specific dialogue but crowd chatter from a group of people or something before the invasion officially starts.
You guys should be so proud of yourselves, making the dreams come true of so many people, always wanted a game like this and it just keeps getting better and better. Don’t feel rushed and keep doing great things devs, this will be one of the greatest survival games ever made!

Thank you for adding bicycles! So many stories like this totally ignore bikes, despite the fact they’re the best transport you could ask for in an apocalyptic situation like this. They aren’t glamorous, but they’ll get the job done.

HG Wells’ story has captivated me through various medias (initially Jeff Wayne’s iconic concept album, then the movies, then the original book, the graphic novels, the panic broadcast, the TV shows), since I was 8 years old this story has fascinated me. So to see a game that gets so much of it right with care and detail being developed couldn’t be more exciting!

I feel like you should be able to hear the war machines stomping around when they're hundreds if not thousands of feet away along with them destroying everything they walk over, keep you on edge along with them randomly venturing by the player to make us feel like they're everywhere and to keep a more stealthy approach in order to not be seen. Other than that this is starting to come together beautifully!
This is a very immersive experience, I hope Spielberg doesn't strike you down.

3 - I believe the WOTW assets are free to use. All he's had to do is alter the sound effects slightly.

This would actually be a really cool survival game. Hiding from heat seeking pods that hunt you while you gather resources and weapons to fight them.
I dont think there is a way to fight them as a single person if even the military cant hurt them, In the 2005 version they have shields.

The night I saw the 2005 remake in the theaters when the movie was over there was a electrical storm moving through the area, low clouds and lots of lightning without much thunder. We all laughed while nervously walking to our cars as lightning flashed all around.
Growing up I looked forward to Halloween when they would show the OG WothW with the manta-ships.
As a small kid the scene where the top unscrews and the ray comes out was a big deal. The sounds of the ray firing and it's scanning are haunting to this day and undeniably identifiable.
As others have expressed interest in, once this project is finished would you consider an add on or something to take us back to the 50s and let us run from those green tipped copper ships? Seeing meteors falling in the distance knowing that if you see one ship two more are on the way to link up, Or perhaps following the TV series some how? (which also was a huge fan of)
The work you all are doing on this franchise has rekindled my love of it and I am very much looking forward to playing in this world you all are building!

I’m amazed at the smooth turn animation when the military opened up on that tripod, it was just, flawless.
hey, just some quick suggestions
I think a good idea would be that, in the later stages of the survival mode there's a shit tone of machines that come in waves and walk around in groups. that way, it'll kinda make you have to bunker down for a while and let the machines pass. it'll also be a great way to recreate the scene where Ray and his daughter hide in the basement while the machines harvest outside.
I agree because in the lore they do march in a line taking out the big groups, and those who survive are simply hunted by search parties that come in behind it, so as a survivor you can either run and stay with the groups and eventually get caught yourself, or hunker down as everyone around you slowly goes silent.

Here is some feedback for improvements:
Maybe adjust the brightness a little and make the shadows a little more better.
Maybe the tripods walking sound could also be more louder when up close, in the movie, it sounded more mechanical, while here, it sounds like it’s underwater.
When you get zapped by the tripod, it should feel more jump scary IMO. It would give being chased by a tripod a more scary sensation. This would also make my recommendation walking sound more horrifying as it gets louder and louder.
Maybe increase the AI on both humans and tripods, tripods seem almost prefect, but maybe have it to where it looks into buildings with its lights. I already know you’re working on the human AI, but maybe have it where there’s hoards of people walking through the forests or towns like in the movie.
Add more military presence, like helicopters and fighter jets.
FOR CONTENT: Maybe have the tripods drop off aliens like in the movie, this would be extremely interesting. Maybe you can kill these aliens if you have no choice but to run. Another thing would be PVP and PVE with AI and other players.It would be cool if there’s a way to take down some of these tripods. Obviously controlling tripods and going against other players. And lastly playing as the military.
NOTE: I’m not just speaking for this video, but the rest of the other videos on the channel. And if you want it add on something please go ahead.

Are you planning on making more dynamic cityscapes? Like how country transitions to suburbs and that slowly transitions into a larger city?
cities and suburbs are a highlight for destruction and people gravitate towards them to both hide and find supplies. I'm hoping to see not just flat terrain in the cities.
Some great POI's to add would be high rises, railway and stations, attractions that are abandoned due to the invasion, retail areas, corporate buildings, car dealerships, repair shops, parlors, police and government buildings, schools, gyms, maintenance buildings such as factories and construction.
Making a solid railway and highway and pedestrian system in the city and suburbs can change a city drastically.
You could use Los Santos from "GTA V", gotham from "batman arkham" series or even "just cause" cities for reference if need be.
The best references would be IRL.
Suggestion on PROBES and ATMOSPHERE: Have the Probes be utterly silent when they search in scavenging zones.
Imagine you are the average scav during the War of The Worlds, you go out to look for food. You get ambushed by a tripod that was "sneaking" (a mechanic I'm hoping will be added soon ;) ), and it suddenly goes totally quiet. THAT SHIT WOULD BE HORRIFYING. Having that huge ass machine like tentacle monster with its loud ass engines and horns, just silence... La sonde commence. You look out the window and see a descending probe that you cannot hear until it scans. Otherwise it is totally silent (Unless you are close enough to hear the slight humming), and emits no light.
Anyway, that's the atmosphere that I'm sure a lot of people would appreciate you take into consideration for further plans. The way i'd imagine a world where some unknown alien aggressors is completely lawless and unforgiving. I'd imagine that the remaining global militaries are banding together for a last stand and conducting mock attacks, and the scattered civilians just scrounging through their old neighbour's houses for any morcel of food. In this world there would be constant danger from the lurking tripods searching the various structures in a scavenge zone. What this game could become in my eyes, is a story about the average citizen, surviving in the End of Times.... until it wasn't... DUHN DUHN DUHN....

Edit: it would also be nice to see a local based game chat system where the tripods can here you and others talking to eachother and come find you

I like the local game chat idea, in multiplayer I think it would be cool if aliens could hear you if you drive vehicles or fire guns at other survivors or at them, but I'm not sure they'd hear a person unless they were close to the person and they screamed or something.

I know it's a little unrelated, but will you be distinguishing branches of the military? Like army units using army vehicles, marine units using marine vehicles, different uniforms and weapons, like M16s, M4s etc. Or is it going to be a generic military force?

Very glad to see the constant improvements you are making/adding to the game. You're obviously passionate about it's quality. ALL of the improvements so far have been nothing short of great and I look forward to even more. I've mentioned this 'suggestion' in the past to you about how to further improve the overall gameplay experience, and that is, to somehow make the buildings (doesn't have to all of them) at least partially destructible. I'm not sure how much coding or whatever would be required for that type of improvement but, it would REALLY add to the impending terror of the tripods and their progression through the countryside/city...presently you can enter a building/house and be assured that you are safe from being found/captured/crushed or killed. Adding an unpredictable destructibility to structures (at least some) would really amp up the terror because there would really be NO safe place........just sayin' Great work so far pard', keep it up!
I love this project-what EVER you do, don’t ever change the walking sound effect.. I don’t know how else to describe it other than the fact it is just so freaking ominous. Like at first yes the nostalgia of the original film..but if you had to replace the sound effect then it wouldn’t have that horrifying ‘impending demise’ feeling, you know?

Raf, This is absolutely impressive with how quick you have made this game just look so environmentally appealing. I have never seen an independent developer do things at such a fast pace with such precision to detail. A lot of developers need to pay attention to how you do this and take notes because this is definitely true work of a craftsman!

Looks fantastic. I don't usually buy games in early access, but this one will be an exception to that rule. This is exactly what I love to see from a video game adaptation of a book or movie. A game made by fans for fans for an IP that no big developer would touch simply because they refuse to see the market for it.
It just keeps getting better and better, I would like to see a 10 minute gameplay with the new features, no commentary of course.

Also we need an option to HIDE inside cabinets, under kitchen counters, behind curtains, inside attics, under floorboards, under cars, UNDER BEDS. adds to the excitement for when aliens come down to search homes periodically. not to mention voice and sound detection! also option to use furniture to barricade doors and windows and fireplaces

found this game a few days ago and i still can't believe the amount of work that has happened in just that time absolutely love the communication for the dev keeping us updated even on the little details definitely looking forward to this so refreshing to see a new spin on the horror survival horror genre
Loving the progress! I like how you made the weather more depressing like it was in the movie! Try to eliminate the quick jerky moves of Tripod's head because as a giant machines they move slower indicating they are very heavy. I don't know if it's easy to fix but you can try it. Another thing: In official model of the standard Tripod, the light ring around the main eye consists of 10 lines. And the hood is a little bigger and it covers the main eye almost in half. Some may think it's a nitpicking, but it will change the overall "face expression" of the Tripod making it look more "apathetic" and "cold" and less "scared/surprised". Please concider purchasing one of the Pegasus 1:144 scale models because they were made out of the official 3D models that were animated in the movie. (I compared this model to the movie side by side and it's 100% accurate in proportions). It's really worth the price and would help you improve your Tripods making the game even more accurate to the film!

After development of the base game is finished. I'd love to see a fun little side mode or option that lets you play as the tripod and aliens. I think I'd be fun to go around vaporizing ai enemies and terraforming the planet.
It might be fun but it could also take away from the fear you'd feel when playing as a survivor.

An idea for survival you should with the tripods is when you first start out the only tripods you see are the basic varients and over the course of a few in game hours or a day then the war tripods show up to deal with the military once they've got there vehicles and etc back up and running
After about 3 or 5 in game days harvesters will then show up
And something else to add is maybe having different endings for survival to
Like add a certain amount of days and as you keep on surviving the martians eventually reshape the earth to there suiting and eventually win
Or as you go from place to place you could find different things, like hear something over a military radio that was in a destroyed bunker, etc that can lead you to change the outcome of the game
If you go with the idea maybe make 2 survival modes with 1 endless survival
And doors, have people lock there doors so you have to pick or barge through them somehow
Maybe allow us to fortify houses as well like barricade doors, however it could also make the tripods suspicious if they try probing or entering the fortified building
Another thing about the delayed (don't know if it was fixed) make the delay from a further distance instead of from a few blocks away
Another thing, tripod targetting
Instead of tripods targetting the player specifically make it so they target anyone or focus more on military if they're around or in conflict, guns being fired while there's lots of noise won't attract tripods unless they're right on you and you or them aren't close to something generation enough noise
If you fired a gun at a tripod in combat from far away the tripod wouldn't notice it
If you should a tripod thats away from the combat however it'll then draw it's attention to you
1:05 is beautiful, do not rush this game! Take your time
