I like how you explain everything and you don’t hide your mistakes. You struggled with the sky being too dark, but then you fixed it and you showed us how to do it. Great tutorial! Thanks.

Thank you Ed. Yes I think it's important to show the process as it is and not just a pretty edited version. I think (and hope) this approach is much more useful to everyone.

I love the addition of the burgundy. And, most importantly, how you talk about making adjustments to values as you go. You don’t mind redoing whole sections when needed.

    • @TheDanishPainter

Yes I do feel that it's important to show that it is a process and that we can change and layer over colors/areas that we don't like.
Today the sun is out and I think I might try some more burgundy :) Have a lovely weekend and greetings from Denmark.

Gorgeous!! I love the addition of burgundy! Such a beautiful color!
I really love how you show how you didn't love the sky and just kept working at it, layering more and more until you loved it. As always, the lines make it :)
    Thanks again for sharing!!!

Thank you Jade! And yes I do feel that it's important to show the process...and that we can change and layer over colors/areas that don't agree with us.. And apparently that's sort of a mantra - because when I teach in-person classes and workshops I'm known to say "it just needs some more layers" haha. but really it does help to think that nothing is set in stone or ruined - it's just another layer. And as always thanks for watching :-)

Marie Louise, many thanks for your inspiring acrylic videos. My favourite medium until recently has been oil, but seeing your work has rekindled the desire to explore acrylic landscape abstraction. At 77, I am still learning! PS, watching Sandie Toksvig on British TV in superb locations. :)

I have just discovered your channel after searching for a style of abstract landscape painting that resonates with me. I have no training in art, but I think I can still learn. I’m 73 years old and in the last year I’ve been trying all kinds of acrylic techniques, a little watercolor and even finger painting, trying to find a technique and style that speaks to me. I think I’ve found it. I love your art and your videos. I’m going to go back and watch every video you have, hoping that I can learn to paint. I look forward to finding out about the online course you mentioned! I don’t have enough years left to go to art school, but I want to learn to paint something beautiful. Do you think I can do that?!! Thank you for producing these wonderful videos for us!!

    • @TheDanishPainter
      @TheDanishPainter  3 года назад +1

Yes I absolutely believe everybody can learn to paint! Sometimes we can wing it on our own but most times we need a little help. When I teach adult learners I always say that the most important ingredient is having a REAL interest in subject we are trying to paint. And the willingness to practice. Always paint what really interests you, wether that is landscapes, still lives or portraits. In Denmark we have a saying that goes something like this "Passion is the best driving force" And I really believe that to be true.
So of cause you can learn to paint something beautiful, absolutely!
Cheers and thanks for being here. Greetings from Denmark.

Don’t sell yourself short! I began learning to paint at age 78, the same way as you are doing now. Keep it up, your art is your unique creative expression. I’m not the best artist but I may be the happiest now at age 81. I’ve even sold a few pieces after gaining confidence to actually exhibit my work at various places around my town.
Congratulations to you and your tenacity 👏🎉

Hi Anne-Rita! I have different ones but my favourite ones at this time are Daler Rowney Ebony Artists sketchbooks. The weight is 160gram/109lb on those. They are spiral bound too which I prefer. That way I can open the sketchbook up all the way and it stays open.
The weight will wary from brand to brand but usually the thicker the better. Alternatively use a coat of gesso on the paper first. Hope that was helpful. If you want to know the specific weight used in any of the videos you can check the description under each video to find out more.
