No lies were told. The overuse, the incorrect application and the frequency matters. As with everything it is not the poison it is the dose. Also the way your hair comes back from the wrap is perfection.

Its a chemical service that should be done in the salon. The study included Flat irons and pressing combs in its question for chemical relaxers. At the bottom of page 7. The study says because it included non-chemical stlyling tools it would underestimate the association between hair straightners and uterine cancer.

When I was relaxed (always at a salon for over 20 years every 12 to 16 weeks depending on growth), the whole back of my hair burned OFF because I was suffering from bumps and inflammation for about 5 years due to relaxing for many years. Hair was thinning like crazy!!!! I was so devastated!! My husband told me for a long time to stop getting relaxers done, but I did not listen to him because I made excuses that it was not the relaxer doing this to me. I was used to relaxing since I was 7. At 10, my mom sent me to salon ever since. My whole life, this is all I knew, and I always felt my natural hair was ugly and nappy, and I needed relaxers to be beautiful to society. May 2019, I burned so badly again and immediately once she applied it. I had more bald spots in my nape and behind my ears. That was my last time relaxing. Sept 2019 I got pregnant again with baby #3, March 2020 lock down happened, I was washing hair at home which caused so much breakage, I was working remotely for over 2 years and when salons opened again I was cutting hair every 1 to 2 months until all relaxed hair was gone. My natural hair is full, long, so beautiful and curly!!!! I was seeking medical attention and scalp care treatments from a dermatologist for a little over a year during the transition period before the inflammation stopped. They said my follicles aren't dead , and I do see very slowly it is growing back in my nape. Very slowly!!! I am able to wear high buns again, which is one of my favorite styles that I could not do for years. I get a silk press and trim every 3 to 4 months, and it gives me that relaxed look when I want to be bone straight. I get compliments all day!!! As a natural girl, I still go to dominican salons for roller sets every 2 weeks. Hair is stretched straight and full of volume. I will never ever relax again. I regret it, it was a very painful and embarrassing lesson. I pray my nape fully fills in soon, but it's definitely better than what it was. Any tips I would highly appreciate. I'm so grateful it was the back & not the front. When I saw my natural hair for the first time, I was shocked how pretty it was. I was also intimidated & had to learn natural hair care. Took me a longgggg time to wear it curly in public, like my job. Everyone loves it!!!!! Almost 4 years since my last relaxer, & the journey was worth it.
No wonder OBs don't want you relaxing while pregnant. It is unhealthy. Scalp damage was the worst experience!!! Thank you for reading, I hope I helped someone. ♥️🙏🏾

I think this still has to do with your stylist not the relaxer. any stylist who cares about haircare would have stopped it or did treatments to your hair... also relaxed hair still needs to be taken care of just like natural haircare.

@Rebekah Coleman Agreed. A relaxer shouldn't have even been applied to someone with bumps and inflammation, that sounds insane to me.

Honestly it’s not as simple to find a good hair stylist that actually cares to do hair correctly. It’s sad but true. 🙁

The issue there was your stylist. My aunt had her salon 40 years I never had any breakage nor had I ever seen anybody in the salon with breakage. I honestly believe that shop may have had either 1 type of relaxer and it appears they next the relaxer on too long.

I cringe when I see relaxers applied with no gloves, girls rinsing the relaxer out onto their bodies in the shower, not using neutralizer immediately after rinsing the perm out.
