  • Paul Andersen describes the macromolecules that make up living organisms. He starts with a brief description of organic chemistry and the importance of functional groups. He also covers both dehydration and hydrolysis in polymerization. He finally covers the four major macromolecules: nucleic acids, proteins, lipids and carbohydrates.

      No. I'm watching this to learn more about the fundamentals macromolecules and what formed life on earth because you don't have to force me to learn things because I'm not a fool.
      This stuff is the truth of the natural world you live in, and these things compose your body, you are made of these things. Sure you could be playing video games, which is cool, but why not learn the reality of the only family of life that we know of? Why not learn the stars you see every god damn night? Why not learn the plants in your neighborhood and how the nature around all of us works. Biology isn't a god damned chore once you get into it and see it from the right perspective. Don't be ignorant!

    @ 7.10 he said that there were 20 amino acids. The picture he refers to has a heading saying "Twenty-one Amino Acids"

    • @backstreetfan2887
      @backstreetfan2887 4 года назад

      The genetic code codes for exactly 20 amino acids. However, there are actually many more that exist. The 21st amino acid on that chart is selenocysteine. It is like cysteine but with a selenium atom instead of a sulfur atom. So since it's not coded for directly by the genetic code it is usually left off the list. I just think of it as a different version of cysteine. There are actually several other amino acid derivatives, an amino acid that has been chemically modified. I have my biochemistry textbook out, it says there have been about 300 kinds of amino acids that have been found in cells. Most of these are not constituents of proteins, but are intermediates in biosynthesis or have some other function.
