    Helpful video, thank you. I have the same fridge freezer and the same issue. The fan can be heard buzzing on the ice as it builds up, which can be a sign that a full defrost is needed. Once done, it is worth removing and cleaning the drainage pipe at the back of the fridge which goes to the tray above the compressor. This can get blocked. Also, I found that mice were using the tray as a water source, so I've covered this over with vermin mesh which is wired down.

    Thank you, I struggled for months with this problem, had to defrost the fridge every 4-5 weeks and none of the technicians had any idea why the fridge stopped cooling.
    Found that the drain was dirty and cleaned it.

      I also added a single copper wire: one end into the drain and the other end twisted with the heater! This helped to prevent the drain hole frozen. Since then my fridge has never blocked for 5 years. Have a good day!

      @@MrTalshifer I used a single strand copper wire with the insulation removed. One end went into the drain hole about 2cm (if too deep, you may have problems to install the heater panel and under-tray). The other end went over the heater metal panel, and made the copper wire went around one or two heater bars (getting under the heater bar, then over the bar, then went under the heater bar; in other words: winding the copper wire around the heat bar? like a snake winding around a branch?). Good luck!

    Thank you for the clear explanation. I have the same made fridge freezer, in June 2021 I had exactly the same problem (ice building up and the fridge stop cooling, but the freezer still functioning) I followed the procedures in your clip, and wallah the problem was solved. However , it took only six weeks for the ice to build again. Since then the same problem happened twice (almost every six weeks), and I had to to through the same procedure, i.e de icing. I wondered if you have had a smiliar situation. Once again many thanks.

      You could check the drain pathway: from inside the freezer, to the rubber hose at the back of fridge, and to the tray on the compressor. Make sure the draining path is cleared all the way. Good luck next time! Charlie

    • @RepairDIY

      hi, it most likely to happen in winter, so if it is in a warmer room it may freeze less often, I guess. you could also check the drain pipe (from the fridge body to the tray on the compressor), to see if it is clear and no obstruction into the fridge? Some people also use some metal wire, attaching it to the heater on one end, and the other end to the drain hole, to help the drain pass clear and not frozen. finally if you set the freezer temperature higher (we set it to -16 degrees C), it may frozen less frequently? Good luck!

    I am in the process of doing this, just took the back cover off, and noticed that the top cover is also insulated with polystyrene foam, is it still okay to take the cover down once the ice has mostly melted?

    • @RepairDIY
      @RepairDIY  3 года назад

      yes, it is insulated. be careful when removing the cover: try not to stretch the cables, try to support the heater plate, look out for sharp edges. i have done this several times, so far so good. have a good day!

    I have a KGH34x05gb fridge freezer, the compressor and fan are working but the fridge is around 10 deg C. It constantly makes a clicking noise, the freezer is working fine. The fridge struggles to stay cool in the summer. In the past the fridge temperature has risen to 16 deg C, even if I turn temperature control to 4 out of 5. I can feel cool air coming out of the vent inside the fridge; what else should I check? Is it the automatic defrost making the clicking sound?
    Thank you

    • @RepairDIY
      @RepairDIY  Год назад

      Hi, chris, my fridge is also make cracking sound when defrosting. I think that should be normal. for the fridge part, the control knob is for adjusting the amount of cool air from fan to come into the fridge chamber for my fridge/freezer. I suggest to have a full defrosting of your fridge (doors widely open for three days?), to see if the problem solved? It may also help to check the cool air pass from circulation fan to fridge temperature control valve and the outlets to the fridge chamber. You fridge/freezer might be different from mine. Good luck!

    We have a Classixx, but the top plastic section seems to be in two pieces and won't pull out. I haven't pulled two hard in case I break something off. The heater doesn't seem to be loose.

    • @RepairDIY
      @RepairDIY  4 года назад +1

      Hello, I remember that even after 8 hours, it was still very difficult to remove the top cover. If this is the first time for you to remove, I suggest to wait much more hours before you try to remove. The heater plate is actually sitting on the top cover, so while you are trying to pull the plastic cover out, you could try to use the other hand to separate/lift the heater metal plate. If you wait for three days, you may not need to remove the cover at all, or you could try to find out how it can be removed. Great to be on the safer side every time. All the best!

      @@RepairDIY Thanks for the reply. Yep, I've left the freezer about 3 days, and there must still be some ice as it continues to produce water. This version seems different as beneath the heater is a think piece of polystyrene, and none of that wants to move. I don't want to use too much force in case I break off pipes/cables. The issue with ours is the drain seems to block after 6-12 months, then all the melted water starts to go elsewhere and freeze, and that eventually blocks the fan causing it to stop working. We do have a local tech who repairs Bosch freezers, so if it continues I'll ask him and see if he can dismantle it to see what causes the regular blocking.

    • @RepairDIY
      @RepairDIY  4 года назад +2

      @@StainSteelRat hi, if ice is melting, you should find water in the tray over the compressor. If there is lot of water there, your drain is not blocked. The drain hose is connected to the bottom of the tray. another thing i like to mention is if you place your fridge in a heated room in winter, it should be less likely for the fridge to freezing-up. another thing: set the temperature knob in the fridge compartment to 3 (middle) so that there is always warmer air from the fridge drawn into the fan? good luck.

    • @StainSteelRat

      @@RepairDIY Every 9-12 months we start to get a cascade of ice inside the freezer, so I'm guessing that due to some design/install issue the drain slowly blocks over time - possibly ice forming over the top - then the water from the frost free system slowly builds up everywhere, and eventually blocks the circulation fan to the fridge section. Now that the freezer has been defrosted (2 days so far) there is water in the condensate tray above the compressor, so I'm guessing that an ice blockage is at least partly the issue. Without dismantling this top section I can't see if there is some install/design issue with the location of the drain that might be causing this ice block. I have gone the other way from the outside pipe using some pipe cleaners and a wooden rod to try and gently clean/clear the pipe. I might try that once a month and see if it keeps the pipe clear. Will know in 12 months time!

    • @RepairDIY
      @RepairDIY  4 года назад +1

      @@StainSteelRat yes, same here. i have been doing it for many times so far. The drain hole inside the freezer is simply a hole, nothing special. aligning with the drain hole, there is outlet on the plastic cover and one on the metal plate. definitely the hole should be firstly blocked by ice then the defrosted water flowing inside the freezer. there is a climate classification on the name sticker inside the fridge(i think). My climate specification is something like N-SN, meaning the minimum operating environment temperature should be at least 16 degrees C. As i mentioned before, if you out the fridge in a room above 16 degrees and set the temperature control to middle, it may help to prevent from frozen fan. without removing the cover , you may have to wait 3 to 5 days with the door open. it has been 6 months since i did it last time. cheers

    Ces "no frost" ne fonctionnent pas. L'évacuation de l'eau de dégivrage
    se prend régulièrement en glace. Résultat, l'eau de dégivrage va dans le
    congèl et bloque tout jusqu'à ce que le ventilateur ne fasse plus de
    froid dans le réfrigérateur. Vous avez un frigo qui ne fait plus de
    froid, et si vous ne faites pas gaffe, vous perdez votre marchandise,
    sans parler des risques d'intoxication. (Pas d'alarme sur la partie
    réfrigérateur, juste un sticker qui marque "ok" si tout va bien. Faut
    penser à regarder...).
