Best Buy cc is the only store card I have. I actually use it more than I thought and I love shopping there so its worth it to me... That lamp behind you though 🔥 Great vid Daniel 👊🏽
Nice! Yeah that's one that I forgot to mention at the end because technology purchases can definitely have a high utility for a lot of people so a store credit card there can be worth the discounts! Haha glad you like the new setup for now! I'll be playing around with a few background over the next few weeks. Thanks as always for watching!
I had a bad experience with the Best Buy credit card. Someone else used my phone number on his card and Best Buy constantly called me to try to collect on this deadbeat's balance. I kept explaining it wasn't me, and they can go arrest that guy for all I care because he caused me so much misery! It took them way too long to fix that.
Best Buy is one of those stores where deferred interest is charged on the original amount, even if you have paid off part of the bill. This can be a problem if you miss a payment. The interest rate is also very high on Best Buy cards. Don't mess up because Best Buy cards are underwritten by CitiBank, and CitiBank issues many store cards. Most store cards are issued by CitiBank, Synchrony, or Comenity Bank. Some Interest rates approach 30%. Read the fine print.
Really excellent content, Daniel. I love how you combine practical information with the psychology behind our purchase decisions. I don’t have store cards, but for someone new to credit cards, they would benefit greatly from watching this video. I haven’t seen this topic approached so clearly by any other RUclipsr. Great job, as always, friend!
Thanks Anthony! Yeah I love trying to relate practical and behavioral advice into the videos because I think its not talked about enough but its the most important thing! I'm with you by not having any store credit cards right now, but glad to hear you liked the video. Take care man 👍
I have one regional department store card that I have had since I was 18. When I do use it, I pay off the balance in full. There are several reasons I have it. One is that that when I am shopping in the store and they are having a sale, using the card gets me an additional 15-20 % off the sale price. They also send $10 coupons several times a year. They also offer free shipping and have fantastic sales. I use the card for clothing, kitchen supplies, and wedding presents. One example is that I was hosting Christmas dinner, and I needed new oven mitts. The store had a pair for $30. They were on sale for $12. I had a $10 coupon, and the store had a coupon for 40% off an item for cardholders. My total with tax came out to $1.39.
That's an awesome example of some of the savings that a store credit card can give when used right and planned out! Thanks so much for commenting and watching Mo!
My favorite part of this video was right at the beginning when you sat down and jumped right into the content without addressing the fresh new studio like it was whatever. Daniel, you so smooth!! 😎
Haha just trying to be as smooth as I can! I'll still be moving stuff around for the studio setup because I have some things that I still need to buy but glad to hear you liked the setup here!
Awesome video Daniel! I would also add in your video of another con having a store credit card is what if the store goes out of business. Chances are it automatic close down your credit card and if that was your first credit card since they're easier to be approved, that can bring down your credit score a lot. There are so much risk associated with having a store card its just not worth it for me. The only worth store credit cards but can be use anywhere else are Apple, Amazon, Costco, Walmart, and Best Buy.
Thanks so much! Yeah that's a great point right there! What if I had a Blockbuster or Radio Shack credit card?? 😂 Those other store cards that you mentioned I think are some of the best options for certain people!
Haha I think that major credit cards are better and store credit cards should probably be limited for the most part. So glad to hear that you figured out what works for you now! Thanks for watching 👍
One of my earliest credit cards was a store credit card at one of the major department stores over 10 years ago...I actually got it to buy my wife's engagement ring🤣🤣🤣.... I still have it because it has a high CL, long account history, and a a few times a year I get vouchers for 30% off my purchase-- which is really the only time I use it. Never got one since and don't plan on it in the future.
New setup looks solid! I was just at the bank getting a credit limit increase and she was telling me about this one store credit card in Canada that's really good. I've never had one before and don't shop enough to have one to make it worth it. Maybe one day when I shop more haha
Thanks man, its a work in progress but I'm gonna keep adjusting the background and add some things! But yeah store credit cards just require that you shop there frequently and I'm not really dedicated to any one store either. Except maybe Amazon so I would like that card!
As of a few days ago, I have two store credit cards, and I am very happy with that, but specifically because those two stores are where I do most of my shopping ... and I pretty much use those cards only for the shopping I would already be doing at those two stores. 5% back for all amazon purchases, and 5% back for all Walmart purchases, when I do the vast majority of my shopping in those two locations works really well for me. Though I will admit, I really wish Chase and Citi would allow me to transfer points on these cards, which would be even better. Oh well.
Like the new background Daniel! Most people definitely don't realize that the rewards they earn aren't standard cashback and the points aren't as valuable as AMEX MR or Chase points
I have Costco, Lowes, and Wm Sonoma. All except Lowes are co branded with Visa and can go beyond that store. As a homeowner I receive a ton of value from my Lowes card, but only use the Wm Sonoma Visa on my birthday to stack with my annual reward. Costco is a great multi value card as well, so not giving that up. Anything else, my bank cards can cover so I don’t see anymore store cards in my future credit portfolio🙂
Major Bank cards clearly have advantages over Retail cards. However, there are some really good ones, which im glad you mentioned at end of your video. As a homeowner with a family with frequent technology & retail needs, i really enjoy using: Amazon, Target, Loews, & Best buy store cards. The 5% back or 0% interest for 1y is great for large household purchases. I also have most of the major bank cards i want, so im fine with a few store cards.
Awesome to hear! Yeah I think those cards make a lot of sense for homeowners with a family like yourself. I agree that major bank cards are better overall but each card can definitely have its own purpose
I’ve got only one store card and it’s a Visa so I can use pretty much anywhere. I get 5% at all the store brands and this first quarter on groceries/dining (including delivery) and gas. The APR is a bit higher than usual but I pay in full.
Nice, sounds like a good card for you! And exactly, even though the APR might be higher, it shouldn't matter because it needs to be paid off in full like you're doing!
Hey I just got a Ulta Beauty credit card, haven’t used it yet, can I call and cancel it? Will that affect my credit score if I cancel it? I don’t use the store frequently. Please advise. Thanks 😊
Yeah I’m not too sold on store CCs due to benefits being limited toward one store. Though Amazon or Target cards could potentially have some value due to those stores being so useful. What are your thoughts on the Bilt Rewards card?
Yeah I agree with you! It all depends on the store and your shopping habits. And I've heard some good things about the card, I need to look into it more myself but maybe I'll make a video about Bilt in the future
I wanted to say I love your content man! You explain finance principles on the simpler side. In a video I remember you talked a little about side hustles. Do you have any you do?
Thanks so much Mitchell! That's exactly what I try to do with my videos so I'm really glad to hear you say that! And yeah I've had a few side hustles over the years and I'm always trying new things. My biggest side hustle was this RUclips channel which has grown into much more than a side hustle now! I definitely plan to make a video on other side hustles very soon and hopefully will include some that not many other RUclipsrs talk about
Such good information! I took away 'treat credit cards as cash'. I'm paying down my credit card but this will really help me so I won't get in this situation again. 😅🤣🤣🖤
I have a total of 3 store credit cards and none of them run a balance. I have two for business purchases and a 5% rebate. The other is a card I have had for years and just never closed it.
Another RUclips channel called the Target card a hostage card because if you don't get the Target card you pay 5% more than everyone who has the card. 🤣 But I agree, if you shop at Target a lot, you should get the card.
@@ramonsuarez1051 That’s one way to look at it 😂 The only thing is, Target is a common place to shop, so it’s not too crazy to get a card. Some other stores only offer the discount that first time you make a purchase.
Hello there, I have the Capital One Walmart credit card and I’ve had it since 2017 and I get 2% back from the card and it comes in handy for me when I go to Walmart

Hey Daniel, I am seriously thinking about the Costco credit card for the 2 extra years of warranty. I don’t like it’s 2% cash back because I prefer points and I have a flat 4% cash back Coinbase debit card. My question to you is: is there any other credit card that will provide 2 extra years of warranty that can be used in costco? I am aware of some 1 extra year warranty cards but not 2 and I would love to learn your insight on this. Many thanks!
Hello Yan, only business credits I'm likely to tell you can give 2 years that I'm aware of but as for insights there is this renowned FICO consultant friend of mine who could help with that.
I'm not that much of a shopper so store credit cards don't makes sense for me. I say why have a middle man(store card) when I can just use my credit card for the purchase an be done with it.

Would it be worth it to open one for 20% I have to buy a few suits and that 20% off about $300 in value or would I be better off opening a csp and work towards points as I’ll be able to reach spend limit easily
I got scammed once in San Diego, I went to this Kohl's to buy a swimming pants and the Mexican lady at the cashier told me "would you like a membership card? You get 25% off on this" I thought sure if it's just membership card, but then shit it was a credit card, and she paid the pants with that credit card already, I was gonna stay and argue and solve the problem there but my family had a plan to go to the zoo and we're running late, so I had to leave And later I was refused to pay the credit card, talking to the credit card department on the phone on how the lady said it was a membership card not a credit card, so I didn't pay for it for like a year. It hurts my credit score real real bad, at the time I didn't know, and in the end I had to just pay for it by calling them again and have it closed. My lesson is never never sign up any "store card" "membership card", who knows if they mistaken those cards as credit cards? These people working in the store for $15/hr for a reason, they don't even know a credit card is not a store card or membership card, they either don't know or just try to trick you to open one so they get sales, if you ever needs one, ask they if it's a credit card, get their supervisor or manager over to confirm first, and ask for disclosure before open one.
I'd say that I'm pretty much a minimalist! I really don't buy many things and have been getting rid of a lot of other stuff that I don't use anymore. And yeah I think that those are all decent options for store credit cards since those stores have a lot of products to buy there
If you shop at Target a lot of the time, you get 5% off all the time with the Target Card. The Target Card is issued by TD Bank. The Target card can be upgraded to a Mastercard after using it responsibly for a while. They will send you a letter if this is an option. The discount is nice. The Mastercard does not really add much value because better cashback cards are available. There is no fee for either card. The Best Buy Card is ok if you don't carry a balance or pay off the cost of what you are buying before the promotional period of free interest ends. If you miss a payment or don't meet the requirements, you pay interest on the original purchase amount from the day of purchase, even if you have already paid down part of your balance. Read the small print on the credit card to know the terms and penalties.
my guy went into a store and got their credit card, he didnt use it because he just wanted to increase his limit and decrease his utilization; they dropped his limit from 10,000 on the card to 1,000 when they realized he wasnt heavily using it and impacted his credit in a very negative way. I was looking into a best buy card to finance a super73; no interest if paid in 12 months but im not sure if id be back for anything else, maybe start a video game habit? otherwise id have to come out of pocket for the bike, $4,000 today to pay nothing (besides maintenace on the bike) for transportation in a major U.S city? I really like store credit cards but I also have regular bank credit cards too…I have a couple of store credit card.
my guy went into a store and got their credit card, he didnt use it because he just wanted to increase his limit and decrease his utilization; they dropped his limit from 10,000 on the card to 1,000 when they realized he wasnt heavily using it and impacted his credit in a very negative way.
I need time its not you its me
Is the apple card a store credit card?
No
I agree with Vishnu above, I'd say no and that its more of a general credit card that has benefits related to Apple
