Really great video. You guys speak on how we all find influence from toher players. Back in the early 2010s, I was fortunate enough to meet John Petrucci at the gym as we are from the same town. At that time, John's nephew was in Periphery and my band (Painted In Exile) were friends with Periphery so John had heard of us. Me on John's relationship turned into me teaching his son guitar and piano for about 2 years in John's home. I will tell you that John is the nicest and most humble person I've ever met. There were times where I'd be teaching something on classical guitar or piano and I'd hear John from the other room say something like, "that idea sounds really cool". So this story just goes to show you that we can take inspiration from anyone and from anywhere . Try and derive inspiration from other players and use that as motivation to get better.

Okay. First and all: For the 19 year old Justin, REVITALIZED WAS THE SHIT! I loved that record, the combination of metal core, prog, jazz had a huge influence on me. With the double guitar action, I loved it!
Second: wow that is a really great story, thank you for sharing this. Still a livelong dream to met Master Petrucci one day, he seems like such a nice and humble man

@@justin.hombach Wow, that's so amazing. I really appreciate the love! This right here is a great example of how we learn from each other! I love your lessons and purchased The Zen of Speedpicking to iron out some of my picking technique issues. I have some sealed copies of Revitalized if you'd like me to send you one. I'll message you on instagram.

Loved the part about the guitar community, you guys are so right ! There may be so many great guitarists out there that people sometimes could get an overwhelming feeling that you get "buried" under the amount of skill but I think that just happens when you see it as a form of competition. Its the best time to play guitar as you said, and finally guitarists have a community to rely on and learn from. Its the best of times !
